I quickly ran out of time and found out with todays customer they want the online quotes and are usually super impressed when I can give them a price when they call by looking on my tablet at google earth. Getting started when you have a ton of time and very little calls. Doing in person estimates doesn't lose you any money or time. Be honest with yourself. Sometimes its lazy to quote off Google earth (when you're just starting up). Word of mouth is huge you know? When you're a brand new business, its worth it to do in person estimates. Once you get your pricing and everything down. Thats when you can make the switch to using Google earth. Also, a couple hundred dollars here or there, by quoting online only... thats obviously a killer... if youre starting up with one or two jobs per week. And each of those is off by 200-400 dollars because of things missed on Google earth. That could come out to more than a grand by the end of the month. So yeet. Quoting remotely is great.... AFTER you're established. AFTER you're able to schedule full weeks....

I still like looking at jobs first. In my area very few house's are on level ground. So I like to see them first. That way I can see if I will need a ladder to hit any hard to see area's. Also I like talking to customers first, sometimes I either raise price or don't even take job after talking to them. I can usually judge a customer by talking a few minutes with them and at times don't even want to deal with them at all. Some times it's best to walk away, it doesn't happen often but it does happen. Also I look at property on Google earth before going to job it gives me a good idea of what I will be dealing with. But I think it's best to see what job looks like in person first.

I like to quote online if possible but I have gotten into jams by customer not telling me the yard dips 20 feet in the back and it's like a 2 or 3 story in the back vs 1 or 2 in the front lol

Just a point for new/newer guys out there. Im chatasmayic and i know i have a hogh close rate when i meet in person. I give estimates only over the phone. I then offer a quote if rhwy want. Most want thw quote. If they meet me its about a 70% close rate. Yes its alot of jours extra. Buy im new. I need to put that time in for now. In Future i plan yo do remote quotes but its building my base for now. Leasson here is lean on your strwngths. And if uour personable and a great seller use that. If you have the business comeing to you in numbers where you dont need to do in person quotes then dont. Know where you are, what your building to and do what pats off.

Time is money. As a full time job, I totally understand. I would believe that it should be based on your business model. One like mine, I'm fortunate enough to not leave my community of over 3500 homes and have the luxury of offering in person estimates on my way home during the week and I wash homes on the weekends. My commercial accounts get done Fridays after close of business which. I understand that not everyone has access to a market or area like I do. Now, with all said when I do go full-time washing homes I most certainly will go with a remote estimates because more than likely I'll be targeting markets out of my community. Anyhow, Mike you're great advisor and so far in my 6 years of operation you've given me sound advice for which I am grateful for. Thank you! 'Merica!!!!!

I started my business in March of 2021 and I would go out for every quote. I discovered very quickly that I would only close a few of those. I found out how to measure a roof/driveway, etc from Google Earth and give over the phone quotes immediately with only a few questions for the customer to answer. My close rate now is probably 60-75%. Guys....if you don't know how to use Google Earth to measure a roof or driveway, you need to learn ASAP.

My big issue with remote quoting would be the type of homes in my area. I work on multiple resort town islands, the houses are about two sidewalk widths apart from eachother, and built with 3-4 living floors ONTOP of the garage floor... They are very tall with little room for ladders in between homes, and often built with intricate design as they are all $million+ homes So I like to see in person because many times I see spots on the home I can’t even get to, and want to explain that in advance. But for the homes off the islands I can do quotes without seeing them

It’s not about landing the job it’s about profitability anybody can land a job just have the cheapest price that simple always always always cheapest price 95% of the time you’ll get the job. but who’s in business to just work and do 30 jobs a week to only make 10% on a job. There’s a lot more to it that you’re not saying if you’ve been in business 20 years in the same area, you know the houses in the area, and if you hold a landscaping business, you generate your own leads generated from your landscaping business

Best advice on that situation... Drop the 20% of the customers that give you 80% of your headaches. Then use that extra 20% of your time to focus on the 80% that are making you $, You come out way ahead, everytime !

I Find this to be very dependent on location of your company. Here in the Pacific Northwest a majority of homes can’t be seen well from google earth.The homes are typically on property with lots of trees. It seems as if most of the work you guys do is in neighborhoods. I would love to be able to do estimates just from google earth but most of the time its just not possible. Time is worth money I completely agree but that’s why we do estimates in person to know how long the job is going to take. Here in the northwest our roofs are typically covered in moss. This is not typical for the rest of the country and I’m sure you guys don’t deal with moss on roofs often. Depending on severity of growth this can double even triple the time to complete. The trick is to have great crew leads that can manage the daily work and the owner do all the estimates and create that relationship along with taking in depth notes for each job.
