after almost 2 years of saving "in a sock" I have bought a Plini signature. I have been playing guitar for over 30 years and never have I had more comfortable guitar in my hands. now sving again for a Classic version ;) Ola did a fantastic work with the whole design. I used to own a Steinberger and I chose that based on the headless nature of the instrument. I once played a peavey guitar whose maple neck was so heavy I spent the entire gig preventing it from creating a black hole. 20 years ago I was lucky enough to get my hands on a Parker Mojo, mahogany body, carbon fibre enforced neck and it's light and well balanced and pretty much the best guitar I have ever played. The Stranbergs look very appealing but I am no longer in the buying market and I am not one to constantly chop and change instruments. All my instruments are between 20 and 35 years old and I am happy with them all.

Yes, exactly. I am new player and as my first guitar i choose Ibanez GIO mostly because it is cheapest guitar that i really like how it looks. If i bought what i was recommended (some strat clone), i would never play it simple because i don't like how it looks (weird, i know). I am very satisfied with my progress, and i already started to look what would bi next instrument that will inspire me to continue further. Strandberg Plini or Sarah Longfield edition are my first pick for now.

I like wide necks, so this sounds like something that would work. A lot of guitars, the neck seems tiny in my hands, and my fingers are scrunched up to make chords. I can stretch from the 1st to the fourth fret easy, with my hands. 🎸

I do find it notable that your complaint about the thickness of a Strandberg 7's neck is when comparing it with two traditional 6 string guitars. I'm sure you know that Strandberg makes 6 string models, and the necks on those are correspondingly thinner and more comfortable. I really love the neck profile and the discipline it permits/enforces regarding one's thumb position. I also play banjo, and the habit of wrapping my thumb around the neck was one of my more difficult bad habits to break. I've had a Strandberg Bogen 7 for about five years and my biggest complaint is that the 7th string is, well, not the way I learned to play guitar, but that's clearly my problem. It also doesn't have a tremolo, and the kind of music I play rather benefits from one, so I'm currently shopping for a 6 string Strandberg with a trem. Your points about balance and weight and Strandberg's focus on ergonomics are very important. Nobody should blow out their wrists or hands; I've known a few musicians who have. - Murray Altheim (Barkhausen)

as strange as this could sound, I believe strandberg is sitting on some incredibly beautiful and playable guitars, if only they had a nice headstock. No headstock really ruins the whole look for me. Headstocks are beautiful. What benefit you get by getting rid of them? are they REALLY that heavy? Do they REALLY make the guitar that much bigger? I don't see any advantage there. It made sense on the older strandberg models which were really made for traveling. But this is roughly a regular size guitar and they probably just kept that headless look cause it was brand defining at that point.

The ``slanted frets", as you call them, don't have anything to do with ``easier or probably faster playability". They're a side effect of the guitar being multiscale -- meaning the scale length of the guitar is 25.5" at the top string and 25" at the bottom. The longer scale on the bass string makes for a clearer frequency separation (especially important when playing low notes) and higher string tension (so your low string doesn't flap about when you pick an open B) and the shorter scale on the high strings gives a more round sound and lower string tension (meaning you have to use less force to fret and pick a string, resulting in easier soloing).

I love my boden standard but I'm trying to find the right neck single coil pickup. The stock SC sucks and is noisy and the Area 61 didn't really do it for me as I want more of a humbucker voicing/punch than a hot strat sound. Got an Air Norton S on the Christmas list. Other than that, it's a killer instrument but it's hard to look cool on stage with it :/

two questions: 1st the whammy bar, is it like a floyd rose so that it´s hard to turn the guitar into other tunings? and 2nd, a friend of mine says that he knows a guy who sold his strandberg because there was a loose contact and it sounded like "if you had put 10876532875 fuzz pedals over it", and the neck was broken after a short time. And the strings kinda buzzed he said. And this guy didnt anything bad to the guitar he said. Do you know if this is true or why this happened?

It's similar to a Floyd Rose. They both have floating bridges, which means it'll definitely be a bit of a hassle to retune. Once you have it tuned though, it's going to be very stable. I'm not sure about your friend's broken guitar, but I recommend they get in touch with the company if something broke unexpectedly!

Since it's only the tuning mechanism that changes, it won't really matter much in terms of learning to play the guitar. You'll probably find most cheaper guitars come with a headstock though

The strap buttons seem fine to me and work well with their straps. I know Strandberg sells a dedicated stand for it too, but I decided against it at the time, so I do not keep it on a stand (it lays on a workbench in my studio - definitely not the most elegant way of displaying it).

I don't know the reason ehy Strandberg has such an unusual neck (back), but imho they didn't get a proper idea of how it's got to be. As long as you play the sloppy way with the left hand all around the neck, many neck profiles will do. But when you get to the classical hand position, the one you usually use playing barree chords or 3NPS stuff it is important to have the thumb working as a counterforce for the pressure of the fingers on the fretboard. When the back of the neck is flat, this will work perfectly. If it is too steep or too rounded the thumb will slip off when the higher strings are played. Sad to see many manufacturers don't even know that.

The width of an extended range guitar doesn't lend itself too well to playing barre chords, but it's far from impossible. That being said for chords like that you'd definitely be more comfortable on a 6-string

You got me wrong in any way. I was talking about the back profile of the neck. About the thumb, the counterpart of the fingers. With a Starndberg neck, you will have difficulties to rest the thumb when yo pay the higher strings. It will slip off. @@HugoMoroux

Not that I'm aware of, what kind of problems are you facing?

@@HugoMoroux There are dents on the zero fret that make a pinging noise when I bend the strings or i use vibrato. It's quite annoying and it has happened to both my 2 Strandbergs. Besides, I have had other quality issues. I'm quite dissatisfied with the construction quality. I'm bringing them to a specialised strandberg luthier, let's see what he says.

Well that's obviously not the reason the frets are slanted. The lower stringer are longer than the higher strings for better tension distribution, especially for drop tuning.

@@HugoMoroux Hahaha yes sir and they are quite top heavy too so big neck dive (I mostly play in classical position for that guitar). The Goliath is nice too it's their headless model which I also really like. I was comparing that one a lot to my Strandberg when I first got it being a headless and I've seen a few videos comparing the two also.

Can't wrap your thumb John Mayer style and imo that's why people usually don't like the shape. Strandberg has a long way to go as a company and unfortunately seem to be going the other way. But it did train me to keep my thumb in classical position and it's allowed me to play for hours when due to an injury I'm usually hurting after a few minutes on a conventional neck

I tried a fusion model for 1,5 hour at a guy who was selling it, did not buy it. The neck is to thick, in my opinion and the frets are not jumbo size which I like so you do not feel the wood underneath.The trapezoid shape did not have a advantage in my opinion. The old fusion has no good acces to the higher strings. Also the fretboard radius is very flat (for sweeping not ideal) I also believe that slanted frets are not a real +, especially if you like wild shredding. Do you think that Michael Romeo can play on this guitar? you need to have the same spaces between the frets so you can blindly blaze over them. Maybe it is possible but you need time to get used to it. I have a JPM Petrucci model en that is way better. I liked the looks of the strandberg, maybe if the Endurneck is getting thinner in the future I would reconsider (Per Nilson als said that the standard endure neck was to thick) he has his own shaped neck.

That tremolo design kills...but not a fan of that neck profile or scale length.I like 24.75 because it allows for thicker strings and can allow for easier bending.25.5 means your locked in to tight strings or thin strings that break easier.

@@HugoMoroux Right,long length requires more tension to get to pitch.Strats are tightly tensioned strings /Les Pauls are looser.Well I'm a bit off with this particular guitar seeing how the Low E is set to 25.5 but slides down to 25 by the high E I think (due to angled fret/nut design).IE easier to bend unwound strings that say a strat...

Definetly a nice guitar, but for string change you need some tools and it takes unnecessary time to unlock, lock and cut the strings with a cutter knife. Moreover if you don't take much care while cutting the stringends you'll have a bad weapon at the headstock with open needles or microblades without any shelter, which carries a high risk of injury. This is incomprehensible and irresponsible. For more than 30 years I own a Steinberger G4TA with a trans trem, less weight (ok, a 6 string...) and because of the double ball end strings I change all strings of my guitar in less then 2 minutes incl. tuning... Real easy handling - even kids can do it quickly! So I don't need any mug like a wrench or any screw and cutting tools in my guitar case. Changing strings on these Strandberg guitars is a timeconsuming affair - even if you had once a Steinberger System... I call affairs like changing strings on this so called modern guitar an anachronism.
