This was the best cabin crew Q&A I have ever seen, it's a shame you left BA really, but you need to live your life. Although Lufthansa and BA are similar Airlines, they still are very different, at Lufthansa seniority does play a big role and no one could ever imagine that the flight crew would rest in a different hotel, but still they are similar. I wish you all the best for your future ;-)

Can you do a Q&A after one year and tell us what you miss about Cabin Crew life. Also, from this video, it seems you quit because obviously being gone long periods of time and it being unpredictable is not conducive for a balanced relationship? Because you mentioned your significant other as being one of the criteria for having made that decision. Is this occupation good for someone that is single and wants to remain single for a long period of time? Besides, a future in accounting, would your decision be different if you were single? Also, years from now, would you ever return to Cabin Crew life? You also mentioned, it started to get less fun, what was the singular thing that was "less fun" would you say lack of sleep, or missing your significant other? Thank you for your dedication on making videos on Cabin Crew life, it's exciting and we can see why so many people have watched, not sure how many enthusiastic viewers wanting videos about accounting life, probably a different audience altogether. Good luck to you on your future endeavors

British airways is my favourite airline, I recently commented about my trip to Budapest in club Europe and was very complimentary about ba. I now have more to add. Our flight back to Budapest was cancelled due to a technical issue. We were then given a food voucher each to spend and told to collect our luggage. We queued for ages waiting to get a rebooked flight, we even phoned ba in London and they were so unhelpful. This was a bad start but I did take a turn for the better. We got a really nice hotel for the night, a free 3 course meal each, taxi transfer and then a really quiet flight the following day with about 15 people on the a320. We then got offered a large sum of money through email as compensation and then further compensation in air miles as we were part of ba "mile high club". So from something negative to something very positive. Thank you ba! (The flight number was BA867)

When I worked for BEA/BA from the 70's till the early 2000's we used to have open days where staff from different parts of the airline would meet up to discuss things, it was always the case that the Cabin crew did not like mixing with the rest of us, the Flight crew however were always cheerful & friendly - just an observation..

Congratulations on your move into your profession. I worked for TWA for only one year, back when they were a big deal. I then went on to my trained profession. I was a Registered Nurse for the Army for over 22 years. When I was retired from the Army I realized that I was still young enough to have a second career, and went back to the skies. I had truly been bitten by the "bug". It's just as exciting the second time around. You could quite possibly do that too. Good luck, and thank you for all of your videos. I am a first time viewer from Texas and I was quite interested to hear that you are leaving the commercial airline industry as it is usually a career for anyone who joins that industry. I do not have a degree but I have worked in accounting in a management position for almost 30 years in the financial services industry and in the health care finance system here in the US. I have also been in business for myself and have been audited by the IRS but passed the audit with flying colors. I think the best part of my work is the variation as I mostly work on resolving challenges and issues. Wish you the best of luck in the accounting industry, you will probably do very well and you will probably enjoy it.

If you don't mind me asking, I find a lot of flight attendants will simply say in their videos that they work for 'a major airline' but you're always so open about working at BA specifically (which is great). I was wondering if BA are just more open to this sort of thing than other airlines who would prefer you not mention them specifically or record on planes etc or whether it's other cabin crew members being cautious and making their own choice in not specifying who they fly for?
@themayburys
@themayburys 7 жыл бұрын
I think it's other people being cautious, as long as you're not saying anything bad about the airline or filming at inappropriate times I can't see what's wrong. BA actually reached out to me and said they like my videos!

Well, you saw the world and that was very good. It was nice to hear about who makes the PA announcements because yes, as a Purser/Chief Flight Attendant I found myself always making always done the PA announcements. But for the flights that I had I would assign someone to do the PA announcements I had always loved our 777-200 and 300's after the 747-400's. I have always loved our San Paulo, Brazil layover hotel and location in their downtown area. I was bidding and I would always pick at least 25 to 35 selections of cities. I tend to hold the west coast long haul flying. So, Chicago-SFO, LA. San Diego ( which I really love San Diego). I do love flying to London and Paris from here and I have loved Dusseldorf, Germany. For me my long haul trip has been Hong Kong. Well good luck to you and the new job....

Hi Bradley (or do you prefer Brad?), many thanks for your recent series of videos. I stumbled upon them recently and only subscribed a month ago. Though I'm saddened to hear that you'll no longer be doing cabin crew Q&As, I'm happy for you that you've found a steady job from which you can return home to your lovely wife every night! One more question about being cabin crew, though - what happens if a cabin crew member (or even a flight crew member) get sick on the flight? Assuming it is not so serious that it warrants a diversion to the nearest medical facility, how is it managed on board?

Yes, our hotels in many cities here in the US and on the international travel, we had at least two to three other hotels besides the main hotel in that particular city. My first class galley F/A was responsible for the cockpit and I had to talk to the Captain and First Officer because I was a Purser/Chief Flight Attendant. You are right many Captains and First Officers know where they want to hang out in many cities and they always ask if anyone of the cabin team would like to hang out with them. I have always like going out with cool Captain and First Officers. Again, I am glad you have seen the world like I have...Years ago , when I was in college, I always said that I would love to see the world from the history classes that I had. I am glad I have flown for so many years. For me it has always been nice to always pay for food in our hotels because I would always maintained my hotel membership points. My Starwood Preferred Guest membership is one of the best hotel memberships that I love. I use my hotel points on my own vacations and get my upgrades to better rooms. Like you I have loved the many years that I have flown. Well, you take care and good luck with the new job..

good video. I remember my wife and i traveled to Las Vegas.We were told that the 747 we were meant to travel on had a fault,another 747 was brought to the stand and there was a fault in that also. British airways were very sorry and put us up in a hotel near heathrow,a lot of people were not to happy. But i kept on thinking that saftey was the order of the day. We flew out the next morning,i have to say because i am disabled the cabin crew were amazing,they looked after us very well. We are going back next year. D.

Really enjoyed your honesty. I was with MF from almost the beginning for 6 years until I retired altogether. Interesting take in your reasons for leaving. Back in the day with WW, EF and SFG, Cabin crew was considered very much a career, but not any more now. It’s such a shame now that many people view cabin crew as a stop gap, something to do before they get the job they really wanted to do. A big factor imo is pay. As you alluded to, BA brought about mixed fleet as a cost cutting exercise, as the company decided that WW and EF were costing too much money. When MF first started the pay was dire and the rosters punishing. But the company soon recognised that cabin crew vacancies were oversubscribed, and even if crew turnover was high, there was a ready supply of new entrants. I recall attending a presentation by a senior BA executive in 2012, a frank van de post, (he introduced the competency tests at recurrent, and left BA not long after).He stated that the company did not expect any cabin crew in MF to stay more than 2 years in post. So the company did not want any career main crew either. This caused massive problems when for example, one of flights was delayed because we didn’t have enough experienced crew onboard and so was illegal to depart. I recall, as the only PST main crew, being given a full FIRST cabin to CPT with 2 NE’s Fortunately as the years went by, MFU evolved and with the protracted strikes, pay improved, but not the rosters, with the company refusing to consider a scheduling agreement. I’m surprised by your comments regarding bidding. I was one of the first crew on the SIN/SYD route after it was transferred from WW. Subsequently as it suited my very long commute, so it became my one and only bid each month so that’s what I got each month. I completed over 30 before I retired. Many crew longed for this route until they actually did it. Obviously I am not aware of your bids but in my experience when crew did receive poor bid satisfaction it was because they would often put in 10 or more lines of bids including avoids and specific dates for destinations. Carmen could often not process such complex bids and so rejected them all. Maybe things have changed? Looking back I enjoyed my time at BA but witnessed many crew leave for all the wrong reasons, e.g. being broke, fatigue, relationship problems, long commutes. I once had a colleague in tears break up with her boyfriend via sms as we were waiting on the tarmac at HAM on a turnaround because he didn’t understand why she was always so tired when she got home. And then when she got home, she quit. I hope any prospective applicants think long and hard and does their research before they apply because the reality can be a shock. 0-6 months very excited and enthusiastic 6-12 months finding it hard to live on the pay and getting tired 12-18 months broke and tired 18+ looking for another job Those of you who think I’m just being cynical....this is based on my experiences at MF for over 6 years before I retired. I don’t regret joining but am now enjoying my retirement more. If it’s for you, good luck. With the current pandemic, the airline industry may change forever.......

I know this video is from a year ago, but I thought that just as me, others might find it only now. so I might just offer a correction there to what you say about who can apply for cabin crew. No, it is not open to everyone as long as they have the UK visa to work, they DO HAVE to have a unrestricted passport (e.g. UK, European and probably US passports), otherwise no, you will not be considered for cabin crew position. I used to be cabin crew in my country and I have looked into it here in the UK, and I know I can only apply for cabin crew only when I get my british passport, even though I am a permanent resident in the UK UK for about 4 years now... not thinking about it anymore, just thought I'd contribute. ;)

Hi, I've got a question: The most dreadful nightmare for Chinese passengers and cabin crews is flight delay. At times, the delay can even last for more than 5 hours during the summer in China. So does British Airways launch regulations for passengers suffering delay? And what will cabin crew do, apart from consoling passengers by free orange juice in China, to keep cabin ordered?

How many days off per month? Travel benefits with BA? Starting off, is the pay okay for a single person to live off of? I've worked as cabin crew in the US and there seniority means everything, doesn't seem like it with BA. Thank you so very much! Wish you all the best and a fantastic year 2018

ah. so thats why i saw so many BA cabin crew when in my hotel in New York. Although it looked like due to the large amounts of flights there, they all go to different hotels along lexington ave (based on flight number)

I have a question which i'm DYING to know. I hope you can answer it for me... I'm basically wondering how okay is BA with you being a KZbinr while also working for them? Because in a sense you're representing their brand... but you're also just being yourself on youtube.. So, do they have any instructions on that? Or are you even allowed to be a KZbinr while working for them? I heard they're very strict.

I think it depends on the content you are putting out. Just before I left someone from BA got in contact with me, they were really impressed with my videos and wanted me to do some stuff with the media team. But at that point it was too late as I had already handed in my notice. As long as you're not saying bad things about the company/customers and you remain professional they're alright with it.

Honestly everyone has the right to do what they want with their lives and what makes them happy. But I still don't get how you left that opportunity go out the way. My biggest dream is to become a Flight Attendant one day, I wish that with all my heart and I know the day I get that chance will never let it go. Is sad to see how other people let go what you want and wish the most.

Very interesting! I am really dumbfounded by the computer tech melt down in May 17. This evidently was traceable to tech personelle failure. How could luggage be checked in and no ability to reclaim luggage for cancelled flights.Were passengers prevented from using other airlines though available space may have been limited? The UK isn't exactly a third world country.

Loool she said just join as crew!?! Like it was that easy. BA never once gave me a look in for any position i applied for and i was coming from 4 years experience as a senior ground agent handling over 18 airlines at Gatwick landside and airside. This was before mixed fleet became their niche contract and damn those salary is poor. Left the airport all together in 2008 and earning almost 4 times as much now was i did back in the days i was LGW based.

Hi, I know it's been a couple of years since you had your Assessment Day and all that, but do you remember the timeline that everything happened once you got your CJO? I just assessed and got the CJO a couple of days later, but they haven't sent anything about a start date. I have a weird situation where they told me outside of the typical "Congratulations" Email.
@themayburys
@themayburys 7 жыл бұрын
Not sure what CJO stands for. After you get your start date you have to get all your references done which is a long and tedious process and could be 2 weeks could be 12 months, everyone is different.
