Congratulations for being part of the developing technology and methods that help society and congratulations on knowing when it's time to leave - before burnout to follow what's best for you on all fronts. It's sounds like you had a really good stint and like it was valuable to you and the company and society. Your content has been entertaining and so helpful to me. It helped give me the confidence and some knowledge to pursue my own genealogy. I'm part of the Polish diaspora following WWII. My grandparents never spoke of their experiences during the war or their lives before the war. It always felt like part of me was missing. In recent times I managed to find uploaded original official records of my grandmother & her siblings & parents & their parents! It felt so amazing to find them, and to see they existed, it made me feel like I also exist. 🙏🏼

Thank you for solving these cases. Evelyn Colon's case has haunted me for many years. I'd also think of her and her baby every time I went over that bridge (my husband's family live in the area). I was shocked when the news came out that she was identified. I thought her case would never be solved.

The main thing is that your cousin still shows up for band practice. You can call the band 'No hard feelings.' 🎸 Yeah, tic tic tic... after wisdom kicks in, it's a time to make decisions. I was young, working in an old age home. I was fond of some patients and enjoyed the stories of others. My colleagues did not feel the same way. That was tough. Sadly, people don't get younger. This religiously associated organization, did not hire new personnel, but had us work 2 shifts. My favorite old lady passed away. I kept working, until I left school because I needed the job first, in order to live. I soon burnt out and took an offer to go on a European vacation. I had turned it down, the year before. So then, I applied for a rushed passport, wrote a letter to my love interest.. it wasn't really moving ahead, so then I was gone. The new adventure began. Once you give a new direction a chance, momentum takes you further than you could imagine. This is going to be exciting Genea Vlogger ! ❤(We missed you anyway).

What an interesting introduction into this world of DNA and Genealogy. I loved the Mr Beats series, very informative. I have a mystery on my hands that began with an assault during WWII by a visiting serviceman. The relative does not know the full details of his conception, nor does he need to at 80 years old. He is just interested in his history. YDNA has confirmed a paternal line which concurs with Autosomal but there are no matches with that surname over 110cMs and the line has an american history back to the 1600's and early 1700s., with a clear line of Ancestry before 1800. Needle in a haystack stuff, but I keep plugging at it for him. I look forward to more of your videos for inspiration and information.

Out of curiosity as someone who is trying to do the opposite and get into IGG, do you have any opinions or recommendations about the programs popping up out there? I am a pharmacist with a heavy interest and some background in epidemiology, pharmacoepi and genetics/genealogy. Just not sure where to start with making the switch and getting experience. I was actually considering the U New Haven programs and would love to hear your take on it! Good luck with your YT endeavors! 🎉
@GeneaVlogger
@GeneaVlogger 7 ай бұрын
The two main programs I would recommend are the New Haven program or the Ramapo College program. When I was working at DLI we had multiple interns from the New Haven program. I would also recommend taking on volunteer search angel cases if you already have extensive genetic genealogy experience. Multiple programs where you can become a Search Angel. If you are a bit newer to genetic genealogy and only have experience with your own family, I would suggest asking friends if you'd like to help them with their family tree with DNA. Just getting as much first hand experience as possible.

Gosh, I wish there was some way to hire you to do Northern Irish and Scottish genealogy. My paternal great grandfather changed his name and that’s how I got the surname I have now. It’s a French name and I don’t like it. I traced down the biological father of my paternal great grandfather, a fellow from Cookstown, Tyrone Co., Northern Ireland born in 1838. My great grandfather‘s mother was from Glasgow, Scotland and my great grandfather was born illegitimate in an Almshouse in Tewksbury, Massachusetts in 1862. But I can’t find out when his surname was changed. The rest of my family traces back to Northern Ireland and Scotland too, but internal genealogical research in Ireland is very difficult because many of their census records burned up. All that’s left are Parish Church records, but there are hundreds of Parishes in Northern Ireland and it’s like looking for a needle in a haystack. I’ve got tons of DNA matches of people with DNA from Ireland and Scotland from 23 and Me, MyHeritage and Livingdna, and I even visited 3rd degree cousins of mine in Northern Ireland last October I located off the DNA sites. But I’m at a roadblock in trying to find out how my great grandfather changed his name. Any suggestions you’d have would be greatly appreciated. Love your channel by the way.

It's a lot of work doing genetic genealogy, I know Cece Moore is big in the genetic genealogy field and she has her DNA dectective group but someone mentioned to me they don't really have a lot of people to help work in the hispanic community so I would definitely be interested in doing something specific since I already do Genealogy for Mexico. Very interesting field. My son majored in genetics at University of Florida. We have had a personal experience with an individual who was tracked by the FBI through his families genealogy and sent to prison for at least two murders that were cold cased. I have wondered if this type of investigative procedure is actually acccurate…or has flaws….any comment? Thank you so much!
@KristenK78
@KristenK78 9 ай бұрын
Cases that are solved by DNA are checked and double checked. Evidence from the crime scene helps them identify a potential suspect, but then they do the actual investigative work to back it up: were they in the same area at the date and time of the crime, is there a motive or other connection between suspect and victim, and finally get a fresh DNA sample from the suspect and compare it to the crime scene DNA evidence. I am so sorry that you had to find out someone you knew had done something so terrible. But if they were able to arrest that person, test the evidence, put them on trial, and convict? It’s highly likely they did the crime. DNA has been key to not only solving cold cases, but also to overturning wrongful convictions.
