I prefer a MODX+6 over a Fantom 06. I use a Roland Integra-7. It has a lot of similar sounds. That and the persistent polyphony challenges they have in common. I think the MODX+ is a better option if you already have the Roland sounds.

That’s dope.. I know Yamaha has always had great sounds..I liked the Fantom 06 a lot, but I really just came to the conclusion that I prefer standalone synths to be analog for it to make the most sense in my setup.

As a live player I prefer hardware soft synths are great but not so great live so I will be keeping my Fantom 06 and 6 but I get your dilemma

How would you compare the Roland X6 to the Fantom 06? I heard Mannie Fresh making beats on the Roland X6, and it's sounds really great. I have the Fantom 06 myself, and there are some things about it that I don't like, and things I do like, but I'm stuck with it now. I was thinking of returning it, but I can't make up my mind. It sounds really good, but Roland made some bad decisions with how they set up the drum kits and saving sounds into user sections, instead of saving them to the pattern/program itself. It doesn't make sense, but I can work around that. It's very hard to find a workstation that is for me overall. I been looking for 5 years, and the only thing that comes close is the Roland JD-Xi synth, which I have also. It's just a shame that they didn't make a JD-Xi 2, and make it a lot better than the first one, because that little workstation is a beast. I'm just wondering what do you think about the X6 compared to the Fantom 06?...SBN NATAN

The X6 is Amazing and I’m mad I got rid of mine a few years ago (sentimental reasons)… But compared to the 06, the 06 is way more up to date with more lush and modern sounds. The sounds on the X6 are clean and good, but a lot of them sound thin. Even back then, they were thin compared to the Triton and Motif. All of them are dope…I wouldn’t say you’re missing anything if you have the 06..exponentially more sounds and you can import some of the X6 sounds (SRX expansion)..although it only has 256 gb of storage 🤦🏾‍♂️

@@BrandonBLysticLee Thanks for the reply brother. Not a lot of people ever give feedback, so that's appreciated. I wonder if the SRX expansion can go into the Fantom 06? Do you know if that's possible? I looked into it, but I never imported expansions into a synth workstation? If you know, could you elaborate a bit. If not, that's fine. Appreciate your time...SBN RESONATE

I hear what you're saying and there definitely is some overlap with the Roland Fantom keyboard and the Zenology vst....Some sounds are identical but others sounds are nowhere near their hardware version.... Most Vsts sound very thin and hollow when it comes to acoustic instrument sounds.. You mentioned the Jupiter plugin having the same sounds as the hardware but have you layered 12 instances of tones together...lol?That's when youll definitely see the the advantage of hardware to software in terms of polyphony. It may shut your DAW down due to CPU usage but with the hardware you wont have any issues ... Another benefit to hardware is the hands on tactical control of faders and slides that a mouse or automation just can not compare to in terms of real time creativity

I promise you I am experienced enough to assure you there is no difference. The Fantom ‘0’ series is exactly the same Zen Core sounds. Basically the VST in a controller. Nothing wrong with that because they both sound great, just not what I need at the moment. I didn’t layer the keyboard sounds as I didn’t layer the VST..the one layer was exactly identical for each sound. My computer is a maxed out M1 Max and can handle those instances but that’s not the point. As stated, the only difference is the hands on knobs and hardware make it easier and can promote different creative sound design due to the ease. The Korg Wavestate is amazing but I sold it because it wasn’t different enough from a VST…then not long after I sold it, the identical full VST was released lol

Hey brother, I don't know if you've ever heard of the Roland JD-Xi, but that is the first synth/drum machine workstation I ever bought back in 2018, and it is an amazing little piece of gear. I am looking for a synth workstation that has great sounds and drums, and I have the Fantom 06 right now myself, but I just don't think it's for me. It's a shame to say, but most of the sounds are not my type of sounds overall. There are some really nice sounds, but most of them are not to my liking, I must admit. Even though I love sound, I'm really picky with sounds. The reason I am asking you this is because I was wondering what synth/drum machine/sequencer do you own that has really great synth, orchestral and drum sounds on it, if you do own such a thing, or have ever owned one? I'm just wondering, because I know it's hard to find a synth that comes with great drums and orchestral sounds also with the synth sounds. I'm a hardware guy, but I'm telling you, if only I could find the workstation for me, I wouldn't ever complain again. I was going to get the Korg Triton or the Yamaha Motif from back in the day, because it seems like I resonate with those sounds and drums more for some reason, but it's hard to find one for a reasonable price that is in great condition. What all in one keyboard workstations do you think are the best with synth, orchestral and drum sounds? I'm just curious, because I see you own a lot of gear. I wish Roland would come out with a JD-Xi 2, that would be awesome. That little thing is a beast of a unit for how little and few sounds it has. It's one synth/drum machine that I will never get rid of. I just like to know other producer's thoughts on these topics. Thanks brother.

Hey..I definitely understand what you are saying. I love the sounds in the Fantom 06 but I returned it and got an Analog synth because the Fantom sounds identical to the Roland Zenology VSTs. I have heard of the JD-Xi and watched some vids, but haven't used it personally. As far as your question, it sounds like a Workstation Keyboard would be your best bet over other synths. You mentioned the old workstations, but maybe check out the newer Korgs and the Yamaha MODX or something for those types of sounds. I have a nostalgic relationship with Roland sounds (lol), but Yamaha and Kong do sound a little 'fuller' to me.
