Why I sent my GMT back to ROLEX after 1 day? How my friend got a ROLEX Submariner in 40 days?

I bought a brand new Rolex GMT Rootbeer from my AD but I had to send it back after 1 day, I'll reveal why and tell you the full story. I'll also walk you through how my friend got "the call" for the Rolex Submariner within 40 days. I hope you found this video helpful!

@@KCTimeShare no, I meant the secondary markets in New York have Rolex models dropping every single day. I was able to get my root beer, on a side note, in 2 months with no prior spent history at a Rolex AD. But that's just a side note. But what I meant was that since the secondary market in NYC has all of the Rolex models going down on a weekly basis, I suspect we will see more availability at the Rolex AD very soon. But again I speak from experience in a large market such as NYC.

The fact that the AD tried to pass it off as normal tells you pretty much all you need to know about Rolex AD's. It is very obviously a manufacturing defect and unacceptable for a watch of this price. I purchased a 2 tone Datejust in Yellow Gold with a champagne dial. After receiving it I inspected the dial and was shocked to see that there were multiple white spots that were very visible on the dial. I returned the watch and got my money back. Rolex need to tighten up their QC.

You seem easily pleased. Any other luxury watch brand would have treated you better. I bought an Omega Seamaster 300 professional from Mappling & Webb. 3 months or so after buying it I noticed condensation in the watch, it must have been after a shower or washing my hands, so I took it back to Mappling & Webb and told them what had happened. In the meantime, I had put my watch in a Ziplock bag full of dry rice and left it in there for a week with the crown and He valve open, this removed the condensation and the watch appeared to be okay but best to be on the safe side so took it back. They were great come it what would you like to drink? And how can we help you? The watch was sent away and serviced and returned to me about a month later with a nice red leather traveling case and again I had another Gin and tonic. Now that is service.

Why would a modern dive watch Have condensation in it after washing hands? Unless you wash your hands with the crown open. You did the right thing putting it in rice but you should have taken the watch in right away. I lost a vintage Doxa Divingstar to a an old O ring failure when my kid accidentally knocked the watch into our pool. I got the watch to my watchmaker in two days but the movement was lost.

@@JeffJacquesmd Hi Jeff yes, it is best to go straight back to an Omega dealer and put it in for repair, but unfortunately I was on a vessel offshore, and it would have been 20 days before I got back ashore so this was a stop-gap measure, just trying to not make things worse.

Had a similar experience with my Explorer II. A few days after collecting I noticed a tiny nick to the rear case edge (exactly in the centre of the watch), and a few weeks after that a super light scratch to the bezel. I've no idea if they were there in the AD, and weren't instantly noticeable. I decided against going back to the AD as I would expect them to say the watch was perfect. I've since spoken to them in regards to the exhibition pieces and was informed that they're sold when a replacement model arrives. So it could be my Explorer was in the window for months before I got the call. I'm going to go into RSC at St. James and see what they can do.

I think RSC will question whether the issue was cause by the production process, or by the AD/yourself. I don't think they will be able to do anything for you if it was the latter, and it seems difficult to prove in your case. It's a Rolex ... not unusual. I've had my brand new Rolex explorer with a speck of dust under the glass on the dial kinda annoying coz it shows up on the matt black dial easier, so Rolex quality control is not as good as what people think they are overhype watches in the end. 😂

Oh yes, I hear you! I personally think that if the imperfection can be seen with the naked eye, then it should really be ratify, otherwise, I guess we can just live with it since it cannot be seen anyway ...

Hey @KCTimeShare ! Thanks for sharing valuable information.I would have never noticed it if I hadn't watched the video. I had the same issue with my 2 day old 2024 two tone Submariner. I showed it to my AD and they acknowledged the issue but never heard of it. Anyways I have left my watch with the AD where it will be sent back to Rolex for further investigation. Hopefully they will change the bracelet/links on my watch. Keeping my fingers crossed. I will update this thread when I get back the watch.

I like purchasing from the AD for this reason. I’ve had to take watches back a few times. Lint under the dial of an Explorer 2. I put a huge scratch in my Submariner. AD always took care of me and fixed the issues. Nothing is perfect but Rolex does stand behind the product. While Rolex QC is very very very good it is not a completely hand finished watch. They automate much of the production and produce almost 1M watches a year. This is reflected in the price vs AP or Patek for example.

I'm glad you also had a good experience with your AD! Whilst it is unfortunate that there was a problem with my watch, I am actually quite happy with the way how the Rolex Service Centre handled it. I am still a happy customer at the end 👍🏼

My Explorer 2, got two small dings out of AD. DINGS. Not light scratches, I realised this after I got home. Mentioned this to my S.A, and they just offer to polish it. Now, I heard horror stories from RSC, plus they don't do laser welding, so I figure I will just wear it and probably find a reputable polish and weld service after a couple of years. I heard from my S.A, a customer newly bought BLRO GMT hand falls off after 2 months of use. Cmon ROLEX, even SEIKO has better QC!! At this point, I'm just wondering if they stay true to their craftsmanships or just a money making factory.

I am so sorry to hear that. It is not acceptable to receive a brand new watch from AD with 2 dings… I wish your AD could do more. Lesson learnt for the both of us, check through the watches in detail prior to handing over our cash …

Purchased a dj 36 recently. Mint green. Day after I purchased I walked out into the sun and noticed a bright spot on the dial. Had a weird inclusion hard to see by the naked eye, but the sunlight hit it just right. Took back to my AD and after 6 weeks with service center, the dial was replaced.

I'm glad you had a good result from the service centre. You paid for a luxury product and it should be perfect. Did you mention the other defective ones the AD had? Something should have been done about those..

I hate when people get the opportunity to buy these watches from the AD not to wear them but to sell them for more without adding any value in the process whatsoever just to make some extra bucks and I don't want to support that.

Mate the watches are too big for your wrist, when you have to go 3 1/2 and 4 links on sub it’s too big. Friendly advice if you have to go 40mm go Daytona or yacht master! Good luck nice video 👍

Great comment 4roll. I've taken out 3 links on my Black Bay 58, Sinn U50 and Black Bay GMT, and my wrist is bigger than KC's. These watches fit me well, particularly the 58 and Sinn. But you're right, some watches only suit larger wristed folks...
