I can't help but laugh watching you talk about replacing Rogue Chinese plates with StrengthCo USA plates while wearing a Rep shirt. Nice touch.
@michaelradloff23183 жыл бұрын
Also, I will add that I had (and have) Rogue DD. Unloaded the 25s and kept some 45s. You pointed out the backs (StrengthCo not machined and Rogue DD machined). While the backs of Rogue DD look amazing, I found the StrengthCo backs to be a better option in terms of durability. StrengthCo's design to not machine the backs is a plus in my book. The Rogue DD backs scratch ridiculously easy because they are so perfect. StrengthCo is more practical. Likewise, I found the Rogue DD 25s to be a "two handed" plate since they are not really "deep dish" and the lips is so small. Whereas, the StrengthCo 25s can be easily slung around because the lip is a good depth.

You could solve your issue with the amount of shaft the Rogue Deep Dish plates take up by using 100LBers. Two of the Deep Dish 45’s take up 4” (3.94” to be exact) for 90LBs, but a 100 is 3” (2.97” to be exact) for 10LB more weight.

I love your channel and your honest reviews. Now that I'm older, I find that I use the Rhino Bar and other specialty bars (Duffalo Bar, Spider Bar, Marrs Bar, SSB Bar, Trap Bar, etc) more than a standard barbell. I'm also doing more volume training (getting old sucks) and no longer do 1RM lifts so I'm not concerned with the number of plates I can fit on a barbell. So while I love these plates, I was very concerned about their close tolerances, especially because of my growing preference for the Rhino Bar and having experienced the challenges of loading/unloading such plates on it. Because of those concerns, I went with the Rogue Deep Dish plates and they are wonderful. However, I would have purchased these if it wasn't for the close tolerances. They are beautiful, old school, high quality black iron plates. They're made in the USA and are veteran owned. Both Rogue and Strength Co use Affirm so you can spread out your payments (though the interest is high, you can mitigate that by paying off the balance early). And honestly, the difference in price between these and the cheaper Rogue Deep Dish plates are around $300 if you spec out similar 1000lb sets. I would consider replacing all of my old Leoko and Challenge powerlifting plates with these provided the economy doesn't completely implode in the next six months and we're not bartering cans of beans for gasoline.

I don't see a lot of people talk about the noise plates make. You hit on it here really well about how tight plates interact with the sleeve, especially ones with pronounced ribbing. I am incredibly sensitive to sound. I just returned a barbell because the ribbing was so sharp it was hurting my ears badly. So I have a problem. I can't keep trying and returning strength equipment. For reasons mentioned in the video (Strength Co. offers change plates), my vote easily goes to Strength Co. Also, not mentioned in the video is that the Rogue "deep dish" 25s are anything but deep dish; in fact, they'll slip out of your hands if sweaty as they have almost no lip to grip them with. The Rogue 35s and 45s are great. I think Rogue really missed a golden opportunity by messing up the 25s and not having change plates for a complete set. Both made in the USA is a huge plus for me.

Very nice plates. Clean, even, shiny edges. Although I like the look of my OM Ivankos more. I feel like these are made to a higher standard vs my made in china Ivanko plates. The only cons I can think of is that minus or plus 2%. Rogue Is the only one that I know of that does iron plates it right. All plates are at least 45 + 2% tolerance. no minus. no micro stealing your gains. lol. Man, that dumbbell rack is a thing of beauty. I own ironmasters and they're just no substitute for a rack full of quality, fixed dumbbells. btw maybe you should paint the letters of your strength co. plates white. they would "pop" and fits with your gym's white and black theme.
@BasementBrandon2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think ideally they'll clean up the tolerances with time, but really dig them. I almost went the Ivanko OM route b/c I love those plates, just bums me out they outsource everything overseas except some bars.

Do these machined plates 'sound' similar to your Rogue 6 Shooters when "clanging and banging" or do they have more of that resonating, high pitch sound the Rogue Deep Dish plates make? I'm considering selling my Rogue Machined grey plates and get a full set of these, but that tuning fork noise would drive me crazy during Deadlifting.

Hey man, with this e-coat do you think they will hold up in a carport gym? Looking for a plate that is less wide but will hold up to some elements.

I believe so, not a lot of ecoat plates out there for any length of time so tough to say.

Thinking of getting a couple pair of the 45s. I have 2 pair of the Bells of Steel 45s already. Spec wise the diameters between the two are slightly different. In real world usage on the bar, do you know if they line up evenly?
@BasementBrandon3 жыл бұрын
Slightly off, but not really noticeable IIRC. StrengthCo will be running a sale over Black Friday, may want to wait!

I was Thinkin about gettin the rogue deep dish plates w a couple hundo pair so I don't have to worry bout weight fitting on the bar, im going back n forth between a bells of steel back or a rogue monster light 390 flat foot.. The bos has better lat pull down attachment but I like the rogue better? I dunno
@BasementBrandon3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the only real issue with BoS to me is they use some funky sizes so would be hard to adapt other brands.

Been waiting for a month for a pair of Rogue Deep Dishes to ship, only now they're out of stock. I can get them from The Strength Co shipped in a couple of weeks for about $40 more in total. Sounds kind of like a no-brainer, especially since I can get everything to match up and just have one set of plates instead of mixing and matching. Yeah, I know they don't have 35s and while I don't hate them, I don't care all that much about them either.
@BasementBrandon3 жыл бұрын
I would recommend them!

In fairness to Rogue, their site clearly indicates if a product is made in the USA and they say that they to source locally whenever possible.

They do make a majority of their equipment here for sure, but almost all plates outside of the deep dish and the hi temps are made overseas IIRC

Good video as usual, I do like the content you and Coop put out. Only one question why is there such a need to make sure the equipment is made in the USA? I understand some of the obvious reasons such as shipping, but if it's from a reputable company/reseller and is well-reviewed i.e positive reviews and possible longer-term reviews why would this be so important? Asking from the point of view of someone based in the UK with home gym equipment but it's definitely not all from the UK but I believe have done some good research into items purchases.

More personal preference really. Trying to support local and I appreciate the effort and higher costs that goes into doing so.

Hey Brandon. Awesome review. I’m really itching to get these now but I have enough weight for me to lift and then some. This did get me wondering though. What are some reasons people own so much more weight than they can lift at once? Not that 900 lbs is so much more for you.
@BasementBrandon3 жыл бұрын
For me I superset a lot of stuff in. Others have multiple people training at once.
