Man - I almost started crying when you were talking about your childhood.. around 12:30, sigh - and showed a clip of Ultima. Man. Whew.. me and my dad would play every time I would go see him on the weekends. He started with Ultima, then he trained my character when I was sick etc.. he never played computer games before that, now he is more of a gamer than I am haha. I definitely am tearing up and especially hearing that music... childhood is just right there in my mind now. So within my reach I can feel it. Spiritual experience for sure. Ty for that friend. Now im cryin.. damn

building: -As my clans head builder the support system has made me want to give up countless times, and waste hours upon hours. I've been building for the last 50-60 hours straight. -Building something just to realize you cant place one single section of roof for whatever reason is such a pain in the ass. -I would kill to have some iron beams that you can use to save a build in the case that its struggling. combat: -its bland, although the way my clan handles pulls & fights has brought some strategy to it. -there's the ability for people to be DPS, TANK, HEALER/CASTER, RANGER/PULLER -we managed a full dungeon with about 8 people, steel weapons & armor, moonshine pauldrons etc exploration/immersion: -feels pretty good. -in the dungeons I wish we could loot the wall art and vases. It would be cool if you could adorn your castle with unique objects from your journeys, showing anyone who passes by that your clans accomplishments. Could potentially lead into a new research skill where researching artifacts gives you new insight into lore & specific items lost to the ages. the influence of other players: - an interesting aspect of it being an MMO, we've discovered some tricks that others in the area have started using in their builds. Others we've kept hidden for now as they would give an advantage once future systems are in play. -clans build massive cities/clan bases, solos either build in proximity creating country villages, or some build completely alone away from everyone. diplomacy: -not really a feature yet, but its crazy to see we've already had "spies" from other clans infiltrating our discord.

Hey Dak, Great video about Pax Dei and both the good and less great stuff (so far). I really have been enjoying playing the game myself, just as a solo player - until I found your RP stream. I came into your stream at the moment where you were Role Playing with Dead Wizard, Seeing the situation evolve where you were uncertain on how the King would handle the situation and what your punishment would be, then the following Exile and the adventure from that - It was like watching a Live movie. I do believe, while Pax Dei is already an amazing game (even in this stage) It does show that the RP approach enriches the experience so much more! (If you have not done so - go and give Dak a follow on Twitch.. 👍)

1:10 This is so true! The stability system needs a rework. It doesn't understand some basic architectural techniques like vaulting. I really hope that fixing this is high on their priority list

Nice video, and great look! I agree about the potential. Having a blast in the world they created. The only thing I disagree on is crafting. In order to make those crafting tiers have impact is to make failure more likely as you attempt harder items. Thanks for sharing your opinions.

I just recently started a second character, and I realized how fortunate I was on my first character to find a good plot location, because I’m unable to find another good one. Seems like all the regions are full of half built, abandoned plots. They either need to purge the inactive players, or make it so trees don’t spawn on plots so more room is made. Other than that I am absolutely in love with this game!

I'm really excited for both, honestly. They have stated that they want to implement a way to decay plots but haven't figured out in what form and have also acknowledged the issue of trees coming through foundations.

It's got to be difficult guessing how big your audience will be (for game balance), and about time and difficulty limiting. You can already see the advantages with the packages you buy for grouping. This already encourages enormous groups.

I think economy will encourage this even more. As a solo player you will still be able to make a living by trading with and forming a sort of symbiotic relationship with these larger groups.

Loved the video. As you requested at the end, one thing that really upset me about Pax Dei was their Discord moderation. Failures in the founders title cause people to be upset and rather than fix the problem on the discord by changing settings they demanded patience while they worked to fix the problem they cause on their website/steam purchase errors with erroneous accounts being made preventing linking. When people were unhappy with this choice they were banned for voicing their opinions. Moderating speech has become a worldwide problem, free speech no longer exists.

I also played EVE Online for a long time. I've been playing Pax Dei since EA launched. I play alone and enjoy the game, getting to know it in my own slow way. I expect Pax Dei to be my last game ever.

Most negative comments about the game are coming from children. They expect everything to be easy. It's an early release and should be used for constructive criticism. I love the game..since release I didn't play any other game.

No, I'm an adult, and the game needs to do more work on what it has promised. Currently, it's a farming and housing simulator, and it's overrated IMO. If people are having an amazing experience with that, then I'm happy for them, but the game isn't close to being what the devs promised. People aren't children for acknowledging that and not liking the current state of the game.

It's pre-alpha is it not? I mean... wow. Early access. This game was only a concept a year or so ago. It has not been that long since the testing was made public. If Ultima Online or Eve Online is anything to compare or used as a guiding light shall we say as far as time goes, this game has time. Lol. Hopefully they make it work really good, and I definitely wish it much success. THIS (the graphics) is what I wished for back in the day with Ultima. So I am super excited. We will see though but I will definitely hope for the best I guess. I know my dad plays lots of games and he is excited too. Gaming is something we truly enjoy together! Hey Dak - while I feel the building in Pax Dei is pretty good - I much prefer the building in Enshrouded which (In my opinion) has the absolute best building of any game i've played. I'm looking forward to seeing where Pax Dei takes this game - I am hoping against hope that it will flesh out to be a really good game.

Crafting being a gamble allows you to make something well beyond your level if you learned the recipe. That is WAY better than not having a chance to craft something because the game tells me that it's too difficult. You do know that you have the choice to level up your profession before crafting something difficult, correct? Thus, making it less likely that you fail. The crafting mechanic itself is totally fine. Let's focus on other things. Also, I've apparently had the exact opposite experience when it comes to how alive the world feels. It feels completely dead. I RARELY ever see another player, despite my server supposedly having high population levels. There needs to be more activities.. like dynamic events in the heartlands and beyond. More reasons for people to explore beyond their own plots. I'd really be curious how they plan to make the moment to moment gameplay more engaging. Maybe it's just my province. Is Ancien usually less populated? It most certainly does NOT feel like a MMO. It feels like a single player game with random unfinished plot structures strewn across the landscape.

Crafting really isn't ever a gamble if it is rated as "Easy" or higher. If you try to craft a Hard recipe, yes you will likely fail.

Crafting needs an overhaul. The trivial system is ok, but the bottlenecks are atrocious. Sitting around making 150 chain mail gloves while skipping other items because they are going trivial just lacks any thought. Make each item have the ability to contribute. Give me a reason to craft that gear and explore the work that the devs put into the game.

I definitely agree. It seems so odd to just make a bunch of items because they are cheaper and then throw them away just for experience. I figure when economy comes out we will be able to sell these things in the markets, but you'd just be flooding the market with the same weapon/armor and it would be worth next to nothing. I always try to encourage our folks to make something that is useful to the clan, even if it doesn't make sense (XP wise) to make a full suit of chainmail, for example, it can still be used by people going into the PvP zone who are worried about losing their good stuff. So far, Mainframe has been extremely transparent and privy to listening to our feedback, so lets see how this system evolves over time.

You talk about how fun things feel and how alive the game is, but i tried it and it felt dull and completely devoid of life. Barely any players, tons of empty abandoned structures, impossible to find basic resources like stone (literally ran around for 45 minutes). Nothing to discover.... but you say theres so much to discover? The world just seems like a randomly generated map with nothing interesting on it. To me, if "Roleplay" is the best feature, that just means its a game without gameplay. You have to stand around and type in text chat to pretend there is something interesting to do. You can do that in literally any game with a text chat, its not unique.
