@@nahte2336 sorry, what ? Don't get me wrong, I said tools that "break" every now and then aren't realistic because people who really use them, care about them and maintain them (even if yes they can break anyway - hitting a stone with a shovel helps x) - , but can last for decades and more ). So well, maybe this mechanic is in the game because it's intended to add something interesting to the players' experience, but I guess (and hope ^^) not for realism purpose. (But it could be, since it is kind of common to throw away and get new things unnecessarily, wich imho is kind of... very sad ? ^^) (you technically can "maintain" tools in this game with personalisation kits, but as you can't choose the current color, I'm not sure it was conceived with this idea in mind )

Honestly I feel like this game has the least amount of personality in the villagers of all the games, every character just repeats the same dialogue, on top of that some villagers just aren't intersecting anymore, for example Jeremiah was always my favorite villager but now I don't even like talking to him because he just says the same boring things over and over again.

Well the issue with that is I'm currently bored. It would be a lot better imo if they had all this stuff in the game at launch but you had to unlock it through natural progression. Honestly the hype that I had for acnh was so bad that I was in denial... I didn't want to accept that I was getting bored and that I burning out... When it first came out, I burned out a couple of days after the bunny day event... after the 2nd update (the enviromental one) I stopped playing after like 2-3 days. This is the 3rd update and I burned out again after a week or so... its not the same as the other ac games. The villagers rarely want you to do things for them. They have the same dialogue, even after spam-talking to them and after a while, they dont even get mad! They just get shy/awkward and stop talking to you... It's like they sold their souls to be in this game. After upgrading everything, get a 5-star island rating and the able sisters shop, there's nothing to do, but wait for something new to come with another update. I finished my fossil collection and most of my critterpedia (without timetraveling) and there's nothing for me to do rather than farm nookmiles/bells/matterials, expand my catalogue and hope I get a new diy recipe. All I want from nintendo is just more special characters to interact with and some interesting dialogue with any sort of emotion . I don't care if it makes me feel mad, sad, awkward or anything other than happy, I just want to feel like im actually having a dialogue with a character, capable of feeling emotions, rather than an npc. They don't even have to come up with new ones they can copy most of them from older games and edit them a little bit...

Agree with the lack of personalities in villagers but I always find new things and objectives in new horizons. Getting 5 star rating is easy but to transform and make the island to look the way you want takes creativity. I can see people who are used to playing new leaf struggle with the designing aspect of the game because there isn’t much we could do in new leaf, so they compensated with Main Street and more furniture items. But Main Street gets boring as well like who cares to visit the shops and club all that often? I spent most of my time hanging out with villagers because that’s the best part of the game, everything else is meh but that’s just my humble opinion.

I remember New Leaf had dialogue options that let you plan house dates with your villagers. At an agreed upon time, they’d either visit you at your house, or they’d be expecting you at theirs. Things like that were awesome. New Horizons feels a lot more hollow with villager interaction and I agree with that being top spot on the complaint list. I have all the villagers I desired in my town, and I don’t feel connected to any of them. If I didn’t know any better, based on the features of each game, I’d be inclined to think that New Leaf was the most modern iteration of the game, and New Horizons was the last gen game.

I was honestly proud of Nintendo for explaining that they needed to push back the release date for a more complete game. Then it came out and I was disappointed that it was still unfinished. I wish they would’ve taken even more time to add a more dynamic friendship system and personality variety with the villagers like the old games.

The third one is sadly true, in acnl me and my bestie would always go to the Tortimer Island, that was the only thing we did when we played together. Now we also have acnh but whenever we play together we don't know what to do so we always end up staying in our own islands minding our own business. So we always play new leaf together and new horizons individually which is just sad because new horizons is supossed to be better in hanging out with your friends, but it isn't.

New leaf is and always will be my favorite game in the series. It felt more real. Your villagers aren't boring husks, they have personality. The limited choices of what you could do in game was incredibly surprising and detailed for what the resources were. What I love the most is how easy it is to play, get started, bring it everywhere, and relax. The 3DS has infinitely better battery life than the switch, and nobody is going to bring their whole switch to school during lunch break for example. New Horizons feels empty, just bad.

Errands do exist in New Horizons, but not at the rate that you get in New Leaf. In New Leaf, I felt so busy doing errands for villagers, but it is so rare in NH. There’s errand runs (gift delivery, fishing and bug catching for villagers) and finding hidden treasure, but I miss having villagers hang out at my house. Letter writing is also severely underdeveloped. It’s fun to do in NL but a chore on NH, especially with no touch screen.

So glad I finally found a video of someone feeling the same way. Everybody is praising NH am I’m just like... this is a very unfinished AC game... the only true new thing in NH is terraforming and crafting. That’s it. I waited 8 years for something totally new, but what I got was an unfinished AC that is releasing its “new DLC” as content that should’ve been in the game at launch. We finally just got swimming. What the heck? Yes it’s the best looking AC, but the content is far behind that of NL. I’m pretty disappointed honestly and have stopped playing NH...

This is why I made the video. Because I was so confused by all the praise. I've been playing animal crossing games for a lifetime and this is one of the weakest games in the franchise. I don't get the hype. I don't get why people are so quick to defend Nintendo and this game. I don't get why people are so quick to send me hate because I have an opinion different than theirs. I don't get a lot of things but I'm glad I made this video. I'm glad people like you have come to my video and feel the same way I do. I paid $60 for this game. That's an entire day's work for me. @@toowiimii it's because now most people are sick of all the "hate" and the ungrateful people saying there's nothing to do, when there is a lot to do and if there's nothing, it means you've done everything, and take that success well. People also glorify some pigeon who sells coffee when most of the people who glorify Brewster are either new fans who know nothing about him and are just hopping onto the bandwagon, or people that are obsessed with coffee. When he does get added, people will go back to complaining because 'he only sells coffee'. Like come on now, all he is meant to do is sell coffee. And also, Nintendo didn't lie to anyone, they didn't show any features not in the game, they showed most of the stuff in the directs. And I think Nintendo are testing out this 'update' formula to see if people prefer steady updates, or all of the content at once for a mainline AC game. If this doesn't work, they might go back to the old formula with all of the content at once, and maybe seasonal updates once in a while. So I don't get why you're complaining.

@@TheAmazingRaptor Uhh, yes it does mean you've done everything. Yes, the game has less content but whether if it's a better game is debatable. @raul1304714 жыл бұрын
I love them both, but I find quite interesting how a game that came out 7 years ago in a handheld console had tons more of content and NH cuts it off. I can understand the thing of the deserted island and all the personalization that it gives you, and I like that, but if we get a new title on a franchise, I suppose we should get at least most of the content the old ones had. I like the updates thing but I was hyped for that when I thought the game was getting NEW content in these, not when I saw how they are implementing things from PAST games in an update format, marketing-wise is a clever tactic for new AC players but for those who have been here for a minute, it's not cool to see how things from other games like bushes or Redd and his art collection are arriving as something new in an update format when this was from RELEASE in New Leaf. I still love NH and it's one of my favorite games on the Switch, I'm super addicted to it but I find that there's too much missing content from old games, just in general.

i think NL and NH are made for different kinds of players. nintendo released new leaf with A LOT more content than new horizons, but i think that was completely on purpose. new leaf was one of those games for the completionists, the time travelers, and people who weren't willing to invest a lot of time into playing per day. i think new horizons, both in its pacing and how it didn't release with all features at launch, is meant to be a slower, more laid-back title in the game series
@kingbowser45424 жыл бұрын
@@thetruedolphin7597 NOT AT ALL! I have played every Animal Crossing game, and I have played them all with no time traveling. New Leaf wasn't made for time travelers, the developers hate these people. And New Horizons doesn't stop time travelers, they still do their cheating any way. It didn't release everything at launch because they want to keep the game relevant. The problem here is that I couldn't play this game for more than 2 months, but I can still find myself enjoying New Leaf and City Folk and there are people who still play the original game on the N64 and GameCube. Let's not forget how EVERY Animal Crossing game tries to be "laid back", that's not unique in any way to New Horizons. Heck, NH it's not even laid back, it's just boring. I still enjoy NL and CF and sometimes I go back to Wild World to remove some weeds or talk to some villagers but I couldn't play NH for more than 2 months. NH doesn't even try to keep the player playing the game, because there are almost no shop upgrades and the villagers have constant repetitive dialogue, and little interactions. While in New Leaf, they have tons of dialogue and interactions like inviting you to their homes or asking to go to your house, etc. New Horizons is the most dissapointing one in the series. Maybe after 2 years of updates, but right now it's just dissapointing.

I don't know how many times I went 'YES!' to the things you said. I played NL a lot a few years ago, and god I miss the game. The nostalgia, the interest, everything. Though there are some updates now that have things from NL, WW, and even the original, but there's not the same magic that was there before. The villagers seem like empty shells without any personality, and tending to the island feels more like a chore. What did we relinquish the good things for? Better graphics? An opportunity to finally terraform the island? Music? I don't have the same love for New Horizons that I do for the previous games. @evlyevii4 жыл бұрын
*If I’m being honest, Animal Crossing New Horizons is extremely disappointing. This game could’ve been amazing, but it somehow found a way to disappoint me. This game’s content is sparse in comparison to New Leaf, a game that came out 7 years ago. New Horizons just feels like a watered down version of New Leaf, only being more convenient in terms of island decoration. I know I’ll probably come off as complaining, or nitpicky in this behemoth of writing, I would appreciate it if at least some people heard me out. There are multiple reasons why I feel so strongly about this game, and I’ll try my best to explain them so you can understand my point of view:* The villagers feel very watered down in New Horizons compared to other installments in the series. They were actually important and had distinct personalities, which unfortunately isn’t the case in New Horizons. They feel like little dolls, merely being kept on islands for aesthetic purposes. Villagers barely even give out tasks, play hide and seek, or ask for their greeting/catchphrase to be changed. One thing was added however, and that’s treasure hunting, which is not even that fun. At least we’re able to give our villagers gifts directly instead of having to send a letter and wait a day for them to receive their gift. Hopefully there’s a new update that completely changes the way villagers interact with the player, giving them more dialogue and tasks to give out. Or even bringing back hide and seek, which would be really interesting and fun considering we can put so much more stuff on our island. The quality of life is almost non-existent. Sure, many quality of life changes were introduced, but so many remain. Not being able to craft/buy items in bulk honestly baffles me. Buying multiple nook miles tickets is also a complete nightmare. The amount of hours I’ve sunk into the game (400 at this point) is probably mostly trying to navigate the poor menus and buying multiple items. I feel like we will never get a quality of life update because these inconveniences are meant for padding. Not being able to craft in bulk or buy in bulk was most likely completely intentional from the developers. The online in New Horizons is the absolute worst in the series. Not only do you have to fork over 20 bucks for switch online, but you have to suffer with the curse of their games’ online being absolute dog shit anyway. Joining someone’s island is a nightmare, with there being a 1 minute long cutscene EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. FOR. EVERY. PERSON. JOINING. You want to hang out with a bunch of your friends in animal crossing? Too bad! You’ll have to watch several excruciatingly long cutscenes before being able to play. At least there’s plenty of stuff to do once everyone has joined, right? WRONG! There’s absolutely nothing to do, with most of the game’s features being shut off completely when you do so much as open the damn gates. Not to mention the frequent lag and disconnects, which wastes EVEN MORE time. I doubt there’s a proper way to fix the online system because this is how it was handled even in previous installments. The wait times in New Horizons are insane. There’s a difference between having the player be patient, and just flat out padding. If you’re an extreme island decorator (like me) you’ve probably had to suffer with excruciating wait times if you’re not willing to time travel (like me). Believe me, I’ve contemplated time traveling because of the colossal waste of time that is moving a building one square to the right, but I never ended up doing it, which I honestly regret. I could’ve shaved off so much time by just simply changing the date on my switch, but I was determined to not time travel. Even if you cave and finally decide to time travel, you’ll quickly realize that this game has barely any content. The only content there is, is getting your island to 3 stars to make K.K. Slider come visit. Everything from that point forward is completely optional, and most people stopped playing after that. Back to island decoration, moving buildings is a pure headache. If you put a building somewhere you don’t like, too bad bucko, you’ll have to wait a day to move it. Even if you want to move it one square over, you’ll have to put the building somewhere else, THEN move it where you wanted it to go in the first place. It’s an absolutely awful system, and I wish they’ll update it. I highly doubt they even care about our complaints, the only reason they patched out the eggs from the dreaded bunny event, is because people on Twitter were complaining and they didn’t want bad publicity. So many buildings, characters, and features have been completely removed or not added in New Horizons. Even if they do patch back in characters later down the line, it doesn’t excuse the fact they released an unfinished game, and they’re trying desperately to make it compete with New Leaf, which at this point those two games are incomparable (New Leaf is clearly superior, a little on that later). The updates are very lacking in any substance or charm. They only update the game to reel in the players that got bored and decided to waste their time on some other game. “oH, bUt TheY AdDeD DIVING!!!11!1” diving was there from the beginning in New Leaf, why couldn't it have been in New Horizons from the start too? Simple, they should’ve delayed the game further and ACTUALLY ADDED the old content to make it a better New Leaf, which they obviously didn’t do, and they released an unfinished game as a result of that. They’re trying so hard to cover up their mistake of releasing it too early by making these barebones updates, and it pisses me off to no end. New Leaf is clearly better in terms of content. Graphics wise, New Horizons wins, no contest, but in terms of content and charm? Ehh, we all know the answer to that. New Leaf had an endless amount of stuff to do, with there being so many fun and interesting buildings, and the villagers having SOME personality. I’m not saying New Leaf was a masterpiece, (far from it, actually) just compared to New Horizons, we have a clearly superior game here. The music in New Leaf was nostalgic and refreshing, some tracks being stuck in my head for many years after playing that game, but the music in New Horizons… is extremely disappointing. Most of the tracks lack charm, and they don’t have that certain “Animal Crossing” feel. I’m not saying the music is bad, it’s actually quite nice, but it just pales in comparison to New Leaf’s soundtrack. *I’ve been relentlessly bashing New Horizons, so I’m gonna now talk about some things I actually like about the game:* The addition of putting furniture outside is an absolute godsend. Decorating your town in New Leaf was a pure headache because of the public works project system, but in New Horizons, it’s clearly improved. Terraforming is an amazing step in the animal crossing series, making you a literal god. Being able to manipulate your island to become anything you want is absolutely amazing in my opinion. The crafting system is honestly the best thing to have come out of New Horizons. I honestly feel like it should’ve been a feature in animal crossing to begin with because it just fits so well. There are a couple downsides though, with those being not being able to craft in bulk, or tools breaking too easily. Hell, even GOLD TOOLS break, which is just disappointing. The graphics are the best they’ve been in the entire series, and I absolutely love it! The attention to detail is amazing, and even the weeds in this game look nice ngl. *I actually really enjoyed New Horizons and I think it’s a decent game, but just because I like something, doesn’t mean I can’t criticize it. And if you like New Horizons, good for you! It’s a really good game in my opinion, and it just has some flaws. Hopefully most of these things can be patched or fixed in later updates, but I still doubt that’ll happen. Thanks for reading if you did, and have a nice day!*

Honestly the older games have a different charm, for me it isn’t even nostalgia, because I got the game last year (New Leaf) and new horizons just feels boring, I was almost a week in and needed to get materials for more villagers and I kept needing to craft stuff which became so boring I stopped playing. The music isn’t that great in nh and the villagers are so boring now.I really wanted to become friends with the villagers in new leaf, because you would get different kinds of tasks and they would become nicer to you. Which in new horizons the villagers are boring. I’m not saying the villagers were the best in new leaf which isn’t true I think the ones from City Folk are the best, but it was still not as awful as new horizons. The lack of shops are also annoying. They are adding new stuff, but swimming is a lot more boring in new horizons. Plus the fanbase with those rare villagers only etc are kinda annoying. New leaf didn’t really have it that much. Like you had pitfall seeds and nets, but that isn’t even that bad and it’s funny.i’d only say the museum is better in new horizons and the ability to move houses is better. Decorating your island, but that’s kinda what this game is about. Decorating & Graphics. The arguments with new dlc makes the game feel fresh, honestly not going to wait a year for something what was in New Leaf. Plus the game feels done after you decorated your island which doesn’t take 1 year. I don’t care about the graphics of the game. I don’t want it to be realistic. If I play a game I want to be out of reality and in the game.

I started played New Leaf in 2017, and it really helped me escape from the hell that went on in my house. I treated the villagers as if they were my real friends and my town was my own little world. I played it in the car, brought it on the bus and it was overall a way to leave the real world for a while. Animal Crossing felt like something separate from reality. New Horizons honestly doesn't. It feels like something I *have* to do instead of want to. It's not that NH is bad, it's just that the community has changed so much that it's made me feel like Animal Crossing is just another game like Mario Kart or something. The reason why I personally prefer New Leaf over New Horizons is the Tool Durability alone. I didn't hear you mention how if either the shovel, watering can, or slingshot broke, you'll need to get that certain wood type (bare in mind that the game might be giving you the other types of wood instead). So you try that, and your stone/flimsy axe breaks as well. Too bad, time to get the materials for the flimsy axe to then start looking for more of the wood you need. That ain't even the final reason (alongside what was mentioned in the video), which automatically even makes it my least favorite Animal Crossing game tbh.

**PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU COMMENT** Check out my followup video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o56peGatj92NptU Hello everyone! Thank you for all the overwhelming responses. I'm so glad that you are all as passionate about Animal Crossing as I am. I wanted to point out a few things that I saw coming up repeatedly in the comments: 1. Many of you have made it aware to me that villager errands do exist. Although I still hold my point about it. Mainly because I have 100 plus hours of playtime and still haven't come across them. So what's the point of having them if they are THAT rare. In New Leaf they would always happen at least once a day for most villagers. The big difference between the two games is that in NL you would complete errands to become better friends with your villagers, in NH you would earn errands because you were good friends with your villagers. I still prefer the former. 2. Yes, I am aware of updates. And I understand many of your points on how the updates prolong the life of the game. I think I would be fine with that if the updates were actually new content to Animal Crossing. But they are not. Most of the content should have been there in the first place. So that's why it bugs me a lot more. New Horizons is the most expensive Animal Crossing game (Yes I know inflation is a thing) yet it has the least amount of content compared to the previous games. Why did I pay more for less? Another point about the updates is that they are not earned. They are just given to you. It would be a lot better imo if they had all this stuff in the game at launch but you had to unlock it through natural progression. Then it feels as though you are working towards a goal and you know exactly what conditions you need to meet to get the feature. Now it's just a waiting game. Also many of you are telling me to judge the game as if it currently had these updates. Which to that I say, NO. I judge a game based on what is there NOW. For example, if I order a Switch and it is shipping to my house in a month, does that mean that I currently have a Switch? No of course not. I judge the game based on it's current state. And CURRENTLY these things are NOT in the game. I really feel that many of the missing things were not included because they were not finished yet, but they released the game anyway. 3. Thank you for letting me know I said Tortimer wrong. I pronounce things wrong all the time so I'm not really surprised by this. 4. Just keep in mind, this video does not come from a place of hate. I truly do love the Animal Crossing games. It is important to criticize something if you want it to improve for the better. Many of you do not agree with me and that is okay. I'm very happy that everyone is enjoying New Leaf and New Horizons. Keep giving the Animal Crossing series love. This is the first time I've really seen the series get the spotlight. It was always one of those hidden gems that not many people talked about. I'm very glad that so many people are getting their first introduction to the series through New Horizons. I only wish these people knew about the great legacy that came before. Thank you all for the love and support. Stay Safe!

I have played every Animal Crossing game, and I will not lie, ACNH is my FAVORITE Animal Crossing game of all time. I know this may come off as controversial and many of you will just tell me I am too hyped up, but that is just not the case. For me personally, while I loved the contents in it, I had a very big dislike for the main street. It kinda sucked how your museum, and a majority of your MAJOR shops were just in an area that you couldn't really do much of anything with other than, well, errands. Sure, I do really appreciate all the contents that you could unlock and I will admit it was fun to unlock all the stores. However, I really missed having the museum and Nook Shop as a part of the actual town you are living in and developing. I am going to be honest, Club LOL was just another one of those chores for me. Get the fruit, get the reaction, the end. I know, I know, it really lit up by night and became the thing that everyone loved about ACNL's multiplayer, but I will be honest, NONE of my irl friends play AC, so the place was just a little depressing for me as I had no friends playing with me really. Also, I LOVED the Dream Suite and would love it to come back, but so far it hasn't bugged me much in my playthrough. The main thing that I really prefer about New Horizons is that seasonal events seem to have so much potential compared to other games. In Spring we got the Cherry Blossom Event, in Winter we got the christmas ornaments, and in Fall there is a moment where you can get mushrooms, just to name a few. While those were all in ACNL, ACNH goes further by having an entire series of recipes and the Nook Shop even decorates itself(Sorry if that counts as a spoiler) And as for the updates... I am actually really excited for all of them and not at all upset by them. Sure, some could see it as lazy, but I actually think it is a great direction to be taken with the game. If everything was included right into the base game, I feel like the game would feel more frontloaded if we had everything at once, sure, it would feel more complete and all, but it would feel like less of a journey if you ask me. Overall, we all have our own personal opinions. Both games have their perks, and both games have their flaws, though while ACNH surely caters to the people like me, It can definitely be enjoyed by any fan of the series. Thanks for taking the time to read this if you did. I just hope that you can see that these games both have their own sets of what they are capable of. This Animal Crossing game will fit nicely in this amazing series of games, don't deny that! Edit: I have been looking through the comments a little, and a few of them have been very rushed without even finishing the video. I just wanted to make it clear that I did not have these intentions. I see why people will prefer New Leaf, but it simply did not apply to me. I respect all the points you made in this video but for me, I just gotta say that ACNH is more for players like me. I am sad to hear that you are not getting as fulfilling an experience as I and many others are, but I just hope "ACNL vs ACNH" does not ever become a community debate or anything, as in some cases like the comment section, it kinda hurts to see people shoving their side down people's throats, and this problem is present on both sides of the story. Overall, I just hope that we can be collided as a community no matter which games we enjoy. This comment was never meant as hate, just sharing my view on the story.

All I do in New Horizons now is to check my roses daily to see if they've bred the roses needed on my quest to obtain Blue Roses. That's pretty much my "gives me something to work for" for the moment.

i had a bit of money, and since im 14 i spent it on new leaf because it seems so much better than new horizons
@sparklecloud11aj984 жыл бұрын
I would recommend both but there is DEFINITELY more to do in new leaf. But both are good. Actually no only one is good and that is new horizons while new leaf is GREAT

such a good choice. I've been playing new leaf since 2013 and I still love it & play that rather than new horizons :)
@hortensebock64494 жыл бұрын
i find that new horizons is a really cool game but it doesnt feel that much like animal crossing anymore. its way more aesthetic and is more realistic

A slight correction on ur last point. In my experience the villagers that I bonded with sometimes makes me do errands
@toowiimii4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for bringing that up. Many people have told me that the errands do happen but it is quite rare and requires a lot of gameplay. But I still don't like that either because I don't really have much incentive to talk to my villagers otherwise.

A year later and your video still holds true. New Horizons is when I finally decided that Animal Crossing isn't necessarily a kids game, and I now love it, but I almost wanna buy a 3DS just to play New Leaf, cuz it looks like it has so much more gameplay content. ACNH just feels like a decoration sim, with zero gameplay content.

I want this game, I haven’t played any Animal Crossing game other than Pocket Camp

ShadowDragon16 pocket camp is a downgraded version of an animal crossing game

You can always use an emulator but it's obviously more fun to play on your actual console

totally agree. plus as soon as i started new leaf it gave me nostalgia i didn’t even realise i had, but in new horizons? it’s actually a chore to play and often annoys me

the game feels incomplete. villagers are so boring, and talking to them was my favorite thing to do in new leaf. now it's just sad

I honestly feel like the villagers are like empty shells too. The villagers were kind of the reason I first started animal crossing but now that they don’t feel the same is kinda unsettling . I loved doing errands too since it gave me something to do. I also really wish the Brewster and club LOL were in this game! It would so perfectly! Club LOL was also a place for me and my friends but it was also where I could do the fun dances! Even if they won’t give reactions it can be special diys or dances that are added to the reactions but can only be unlocked with club lol. I still have no idea why the Brewster hasn’t been added yet, it would give players other things to do and would be a way to make everyone in the game feel more real since they have preferences and things like that.

One thing I missed a lot is in new leaf, when talking to villagers there was a small song playing but now it’s silent
