I was a shopaholic. I used to spend hours in shopping malls and I hardly travel to places without a major shopping mall. I used to buy things which I don't even use and dig them out from piles of purchases months later, without even knowing why I bought them in the first place. The travel and other restrictions during this pandemic has helped me to overcome my obsession and also the reasons stated by Ms. Koala.

Materialism is like addiction you are never satisfied with what you have because things like fashion will always change. It is just like fasting you need to value the things you have first before you decide to buy a new item. Buying clothes is only for special occasions.

Shopping makes people "think" they are happy. But it's an addiction, like drugs. So this "happiness" is an illusion that constantly needs to be validated and fulfilled again and again. But minimalism gives you non-attachment and freedom from materialism. Freedom brings happiness ;)

I’m so on your side with this . I don’t like to shop and it makes me feel like I’m wasting time ! If I go it’s to get what I set out to buy . I don’t go from one shop to another to get a better price . I buy 70% of my wardrobe from Tommy Bahama , I pick out what I like , try on and head to checkout. I don’t know the price till I get full amount and pay ! Then head to get food and a beverage. Good video , others views opinions will be interesting.

I like to go shopping malls mainly to see new things and window shop lah. lol. but yes, I only buy when I feel it suits my needs, and sometimes it may lead to surprise finds u have been searching for a long time. I love the fact that you emphasise lots of lighting in a small living space. That's what minimalism brings, less is more 🙂. Great tip on saving on material stuff. We need to be maximalist on good food instead 😜😜

I'm Singaporean, but have never enjoyed shopping my entire life. I only shop when I need to, ie to replace torn clothes, I just go & buy the same exact make & model... fuss free. I'm the only one in the family that does that, my mother just doesn't understand why I don't make more effort to shop... I can't explain it but I'd never felt the need to.

Figure out what’s more important to you than shopping. What do you value most in life? Your family? Your friends? Yourself? Umm you have a nomadic lifestyle, and so have to be minimalist. I believe. All your decision making, including shopping, is centered around it. I thought of living such a lifestyle before. Thinking once I am done with my family life here, I too will also be on the move. Your video gives a good education tour of what mental preparation is needed for such a lifestyle. I am into forex trading, and it will take some time for me to gain an edge. I have 2 other friends who are also into financial markets. One is business minded but will settle down elsewhere, and the other is career minded but will leave to nowhere. I am none, prefer to travel light to a few desired destinations on my top list. All 3 of us intend to leave SG one day. For myself, I will backpack too and just work with my laptop. I am ENTJ, and I have personal reasons why I can't marry or to settle down as I have not yet seen the world. Same with the other 2 friends.

So when government banned unvax, I was not affected since I do not waste my time in the malls....LOL ....if I need to buy thing previously, I would simply go in and get what I need and out I go....these days, I simply order online and have them delivered. When I go out, I prefer to be enjoying nature, cycling, trekking, appreciating the beauty and peace of nature....ha ha

shopping: only daily necessities. and make daily life simple, like: only use v60 dripper to make coffee, the paper filter make cleaning very easy: just throw away the paper filter & ground coffee inside. my lazy concept: buying thing is responsibility from where to keep it, periodic cleaning & probably maintenance, deciding when to throw it away. the lesser I have, the lesser I have to go through those cycle.
