This is performance art at its finest, being yourself! You nailed it. Births (and rebirths) of any kind are always messy affairs so your situation feels weird. Nevertheless, looking back in a couple decades it should all make sense. Like others I came for the pigments but I'm staying for the authenticity. Be you, and do a lot. P.S. I've heard it's not actually existential dread unless it comes from the existential region of France. Otherwise it's just sparkling anxiety. Cheers.

Oh Nada, should I say I am so sorry, or I am so happy for you! I empathize with what you are going through. You are me when I was your age. I am 63 now. You will find your way. Someone told me at 20 that "everything you do will make up what you eventually do/become in your life." All the science stuff I took, all the nerdie things I did as a way to avoid painting, EVERYTHING did come into play. At 63 I STILL avoid painting sometimes (or feel like it) because I "feel" like I avoided painting when I was young. (my parents were entirely unsupportive). But like you I made my way. I continued to try different things. I finally settled on Graphic Design as a career and was really good at that. Marriage, children, obligations, responsibility.... but everything felt like an avoidance of really who I am - who I am supposed to be at a soul level. Some of us get lives like that. I always say "I didn't get the guidebook to life." Here is something I figured out - that WE think we are supposed to be ADULTS in our 20's. But it is not true. We are children that are having the opportunity to LEARN how to become adults. It really starts much later after all of the experiences you have in your 20's. You NEED those failures of your 20's to make you into the adult you will more or less be by your 30's when you are on your own. It is so funny what you do because it is so much like me. The CURIOSITY for life, the need for performance, the sharing... the isolation. Just embrace it my friend..... it will all propel you forward - even if you are not sure. The only person who is sure is the one who "picks" their path... and even then, they can be struck down by an unexpected impediment. (I've been fired 4 times!) Each time devastating, but each time leading me to a much BETTER place.... its like the Universe keeps you on a particular destiny whether or not you fall off by your own unknowing. I don't know what to say to help support your lovely video making - to let you know that you ARE FULL of value, meaning, pretty, smart and philosophical. Be KIND to yourself in this process. It was one thing I was not to myself. What a blessing you are to us even through your person confusion. Do not lend too much time to anything negative. Move with your intuition and just KEEP DOING. It WON'T make much sense until much later in life when you get to look back and see the garment you wove to wear for your life. Find me on FB if you like. Warmly, virtual hug, keep it going, Lori A. @@NadaMakes1 But Nada - that's just IT: "permission"... is it coincidence that I was using this word over the weekend with other female artists? No. No coincidence. Women are STILL oppressed in a world that is institutionally held by men. I paid for a global art conference in which the art historian lectured on Art History Realism and he left EVERY woman of history out - except Rosa Bonheur and the contemporary presenters. It was so out of step with what we need to bring to the world! So I wrote 3 women artists who were given "permission" to do a round table discussion. Young women don't see the inequality. They are afraid if they speak out they will not be given "permission." I can't give you honestly any permission. I can give you truth, authenticity, experience, wisdom, facts, common sense and analysis. It is YOU dear Nada that will have to grow into the world of not needing permissions. It is you dear Nada that will pave the way for others to HAVE permission. Where is the TRUTH that we have to find our own way? Where is the truth that we must NEED permission of those who hold unjustifiable powers over our success and failures? The truth is, your parents appear to have given you "permission." Now, what you can make of it - you must do thru failures and struggles. You must pick yourself back up after you lick your wounds and go again. It's kinda like playing a pinball machine and getting knocked around a lot! P.S. I made the mango Indian Yellow! It worked out great as a dye. I used some calcium carbonate, baking soda, baking powder... I separated into two piles - one as dye and one which has the powders. Don't ask me what I will do with it yet... haha. I think it will be fugitive tho! Best wishes to you. You WILL HAVE a LIFE. What kind of life, beautiful, smart Nada, is something to ask yourself... then make some plans - realizing - they will go astray....because the Cosmos in infinite wisdom, well, let's say - we are part of the entertainment, I guess!

Oh i just saw this video :) I'm glad you're back. Strange how much changes in not so much time at all. It's so interesting because last year I realized I wasn't happy with painting either. For me it was a temporary thing, I just needed a break from it for a while. I started drawing simple little comics instead, which honestly I'm more passionate about than any of the paintings i did for years leading up to my break. I could talk for hours about them :D I'm only now really getting back into painting with that fresh perspective and i really think it helped me find joy in my artwork again. I'm interested to see where you will go with the non-painting mediums.

A very interesting tale of incredibly varied experiences. I'm curious to see what lays ahead with your works. Also the topic of art being process reliant and using whatever is on hand reminded me of an exhibit at the Hamilton Art Gallery over here in Ontario called the Bruegel Bosch Bus. Its a work composed of various pop culture figurines, model buildings, and other obscure odds and ends sprawled across the rusting corpse of a Volkswagen Bus in a metropolis like form. Its a fascinating piece and if you ever get the chance to see it in person I highly recommend it.

I can relate with being interested in different areas and with making things to procrastinate “main” things. 🤦‍♂️ But secondary things can be so entertaining and interesting… I like your curious mind and the way you put things in order and search for what makes you feel good. Of course your not useless! You have a purpose, many purposes 😆, as many as you want. I found you because of the pigments but stayed because of the mind behind and the way you look at things and explain them to us. So I’m sure whatever you are going to do will be interesting. I'm glad you found that on my words. I'm pretty sure someday you'll find the same from the inside instead of the outside, looking on how you're aware of your processes, which is both necessary and difficult. I forgot to mention when you say about waiting for the perfect moment. I fall into this error often. My brain doesn't deal very well with two things at a time. I suppose all the artists need some concentration but this society is not made to find that perfect moment and we have to learn to deal with it. I have two songs about this idea, and one of them is unfinished because of the perfect moment thing... 😆 But this time I have a good reason. Now I'm the one that is moving. If I'm having these issues by moving from the city to the countryside I can only imagine what it is for you...

Welcome back. Just wanted to say that I appreciate your sharing your time. I started watching your videos because I was curious about pigments and stuck around because of the way you were playing around and trying things out because you just wanted to know. Even when they did not work well, you always learned something so I wouldnt consider any of them failures. I look forward to seeing what else you play around with whether it be art related, electronics, or anything else. It is your personality and the way you are doing things that is interesting. As long as you are having fun, learning something, or just feel like sharing, you should do the videos. No doubt there will be rude and hurtful comments at times, but they are just jerks and not people you would want to hang out with anyway. Try to just skip those comments and chalk them up to having some unknowable reason (like a bad rash or a rumbly tummy (dopey grin)) for being a jerk and not that there is anything wrong with your videos. I tend to think of it like this, with so much out there to watch, why wouldnt they just go watch something else. Instead they go out of their way to say things to cause hurt and sadness. So that is their true goal. I also have to say it is really cool to hear you tried so many different classes and will continue to try new media. When you start to intermix them, you will want to learn even more (smile). Never stop learning and trying new things. Thank you for sharing

Hey Nada! Trying to monetize painting is tough. I had some of my friends tell me to monetize my art but I didn't feel that it would make it so I never did. But painting/doodling has always been a outlet for me. On occasion I get into a serious pigment making mode and start mixing several different shades of the same color. I want to see you happy with what you do and I hope you find it as you explore the new direction your KZbin channel is going in. By the way I've been exploring a newer yellow that's getting more into the market now called Bismuth yellow (or Bismuth Vanadate). I didn't make it but bought it on-line and started mixing it with other colors to make different shades of yellow/orange/green. If you get the inclination bismuth yellow and prussian blue make a beautiful green!

Salams. Nice to meet you. Just a suggestion, maybe consider going into digital design like adobe photoshop, illustrator, animation, video editing & effects, etc. It would be similar to painting but without a brush and ink. Everything would be designed on the computer. This way you can still be doing something artistic/creative and make a good income. The world is moving more towards the IT field, and this is connected to the IT field so there will always be a need for this type of work. These types of software don't take long to learn and the rest of the work is your imagination. Hope things work out well for you, In-Sha-Allah. P.s., With this type of job a lot of times you can work from home too, especially during these covid times, so that's a nice bonus. :)

For someone to become a really good artist, they need to go through some discomfort (physical discomfort). Because artisty people tend to be impulsive (making them unstable). Going through physical trails makes them stabilize and channelize the impulses in a more productive and beautiful way. Try hiking, or fasting or breathing exercises, or cold showers (in winter), or mountain climbing, or tree climbing, ... etc. That will polish the artist in you. Another thing that helps the artists is to take up chess. Chess requires you to be calculative. Art requires you to be emotional & impulsive. They balance each other well. Visual arts (like painting, drawing, photography,... etc) need music to balance (and vice versa). So, listening to instrumental music is a way to balance as a visual artist. Balance is necessary for any thing to be successful properly.

Honestly, my process is bad because I haven't found any recipes either! Google really isn't that helpful when it comes to lake pigments. Ive found that using less washing soda, and lots of alum works best for a nice soft pigment with good yield. So like 1-2 tsps alum to 1/8th- 1/4 tsp washing soda. I do wish someone would nail down the best ratio though!

Chromium carbonate can be made by chromium chloride and sodium carbonate then you get a green blue powder. It Cr+3 not as toxic as Cr+4 or Cr+6 (Sodium dichromate, etc).

Thats a great point about the stopping the fear of making! I definitely spend a lot of time paralyzed because a certain project is too much of a mountain to climb. Your approach is 100% something im trying to learn

Pretty sure she’s me but a little bit younger and Canadian. I procrastinated finishing my computer science degree with art which I’ve been doing since I was young, came across this channel because I love art and have since a very young age, but then I started procrastinating art-dreading monetizing it and was researching pigments... life stalled. Now finishing school and my parents aren’t diplomats

I hope we are both able to find our own good balance between stability/ security and art and making just for the sake of making. If it makes you feel any better Im not Canadian and currently stuck in immigration hell so everything is very much stalled too :( especially because of the virus. All I can do these days is keep trying my best even if that is not very impressive

It seems like that which we used to figure out by our teens you guys today aren't learning, or even beginning to explore, until your mid twenties. How in the hell do you pay your rent and buy your groceries? Do your parents pay your rent? I don't mean this to be ugly. I'm genuinely curious how young adults survive today. We had jobs young and by time we went off to uni we were home owners. I wish we had more time to sale through life then and explore our feelings and wants more instead of our needs. It's always been no surprise to me why the ancient Greeks were known for being deep thinkers. Because when you have nothing physical to do thinking is all one does. Which can both lead us forward but also hold us back. Good luck in life.

You're so talented. You're about the only one doing pigment on KZbin. I'm definitely subbing. Do you have a Instagram? I'd love to just pick your brain.

I doubt you'll see this, but I completely understand. I love people seeing my art but I don't want to sell it and I don't want to make anything for anyone because then I lose the quality or even passion to do things that I like and what I want to do, thus making it very difficult to keep up with the craft and enjoying the process. I don't know what to do with my life because everything is about money and the dominance with money.

Another thing that polishes art (and makes it relevant to common people) is by basing the art in context: a) modern society b) history c) fantasy & religion d) nature Abstract type of art has limited appeal (though it can make a lot of money by selling it to suckers).
