What are your thoughts on coconut oil? Does your locs love it or hate it?

NaturalBeauty0214 coconut oil is good, but peppermint oil is better to me from my experience 🤷🏾♂️

I have color treated hair and my locs love coconut oil. You can put oil directly on locs right?? I do it very lightly.

For me coconut oil is a no go. I try hard to stay away from products that are solid at room temp to avoid buildup.

Coconut oil in my experience depends on where you get from, your hair texture, and climate that you live in. I am from the islands. My hair is thick and wavy. When I use coconut oil back on the islands, my hair and scalp love it. Now that I live in a desert, coconut oil dries up my hair and scalp. It’s all about experimenting what your hair and scalp reacts to.

My hair loves coconut oil. My locs were always much more soft when I used it versus when I didn't..and yes the shiny moisturized look is wonderful.

Yes! Coconut oils only work for me during the warm months here in northern USA. During our cold winters and drying heating systems coconut just hardens on my skin and hair just as it does in my in the containers I store it in. In the summer it is a liquid.

Coconut oil can be drying, I make my own soap and found this out from that experience. What I've learned about coconut oil and locs is if you're going to use it, make it yourself because it's way more moisturizing. Coconut oil made on the stove is way more moisturizing for some reason. I also do herbal oil extracts and the best oil to use is fractionated coconut oil, it lasts longer and doesn't solidify, also the properties of the oil, extracts the benefits from the herbs the best. Gabriel on YT taught me that. For anyone that wants a coconut oil alternative, try babassu oil, contains all the benefits of coconut oil and it's way more moisturizing. I don't oil my locs, only my scalp, I use aloe vera juice/rosewater and some other herbs to spritz my locs.

I don't use it on my locs for the same reason. It dries my hair and it makes feel brittle. I feel it just sits on my hair and doesn't penetrate. Maybe just applying to the scalp only, idk.

I'm on my second lock journey and am 3 years in and am finally just now starting to learn what works for my hair and what doesn't. I used coconut oil for the first time a few days ago, because I'm trying figure out how to keep moisture in my hair, because I live in Alaska where the air is always dry. It seems okay, but I also use a cocktail of other oils mixed with water that I spray my hair with, so I don't know if the coconut oil is actually doing anything. But I am going to follow your advice and steer away from it for awhile. Thank you!

I use coconut oil on my sisterlocks but only at the end of my shower after I rinse my shampoo/conditioner. I put it in rub it through my hair shaft/ends but I don’t put it on my scalp at all. Then I rinse it out. The residue is all I really want to lock in moisture. Also when I rinse the oil out it’s doubles as a in-shower moisturizer for my skin.

I use the MCT oil...coconut oil...with water...its easier... absorbs easier..and I only use a quarter size amount

I think it's the type of coconut oil being used. I had protein overload once when I had loose natural hair. It was dry as straw. I found out tho that its the unrefined one that did it. I have locs now and my hair was a little dry. I use the refined one now. I believe the unrefined one has more protein in it than the refined one. The unrefined coconut oil is too strong and over time will do more damage to your hair than good. I just started on the refined coconut oil and am testing it out now. I only plan on using maybe once a day or every other day sparingly to see what happens. So far my locs are soft and scalp feels good. Cant wait to see if this works for the long hall

Any advice on Micro Loc care/maintenance and/or routines?
@naturalbeauty02145 жыл бұрын
BeeNaturalMe You would treat them the exact same way as traditional locs. A hydration spray or light weight leave in conditioner As needed and oil for your scalp. Sulfate free shampoo and conditioner
