If Citi reintroduces American Airlines as a transfer partner, that will be another big win for Citi in a lot of people's eyes. I think both Citi and Wells Fargo depending on what other transfer partners they add and premium cards they will offer can be big competitors given Amex endless coupon books and Chase's willingness to remain stagnant and are only hanging on by Hyatt as their darling partner.

IDK - i think whoever get AA as a transfer partner goes to the top of the list. Unless it comes with a huge devaluation.

In my book, Chase having the trio of Hyatt, Southwest & BA is what keeps me coming back to them. My primary hotel is Hilton & primary airline is AA. But, Chase allows having Southwest & Hyatt as my secondaries and being able to transfer to BA for AA flights is just icing on the cake.

Citi has always been solid for anyone playing in expert mode. I don't even think they needed a revamp. I'm happy for it, though. I won't complain about getting additional benefits

Citi TYP cards are great: Sears TYP earns mo spend bonuses = 11x for $3K spend best earner for Rst/Mkt/Gas/Target/Walmart. Also 5x TYP Trvl/Exp/portal/air/hotel/car. Plus 5x ENt and statement credit bonuses. Great TYP earner. Also have SP/DC/CC. Have AMX trifecta: Trvl ins and purchase protections. Also have Apple,AMZ Prime, BofA CCR, Biz CCR, & TR, Bilt, WR earners Biz, Bonvoy Biz & Boundless. Citi has the high earning cards, AMX for experiences and benefits. 16 Cards. Citi Sears TYP, SP, DC, CC are my go to cards.

I got the strata premier and already kinda regret it. Trying to get to customer service to set things up has been a total PITA and my card has already been flagged for suspicious activity?!?! Sigh, I guess I’m spoiled by Chase/Amex (who arguably have had declining CS) and will be staying with them in the future.

I would like to see Citi make a change to the $100 off a $500 hotel purchase. Maybe 2 traunches of $50 off $250. But, i guess this is their version of "stay 5 nights, get one free".

Here’s how I see it. It’s a little tougher to use in a way but…. You can completely mitigate the annual fee with this card. Unlike the autograph journey or the CSP.

It gets better... I was part of the focus group that help with the roll out (worked at Citi for 11 years) and was grandfathered into a $175 annual fee for myself and my authorized user 🙂. Hopefully that sticks with the rebrand!

call me a pessimist, I'm hesitant to get my hopes up with Citi. I think at best, they can match what's already on the market, and they haven't introduced anything that would encourage me to get any of their cards. We'll see if I'm proven wrong in late 2024/early 2025

I got denied and called their reconsideration line. I was approved in less than 5 minutes. When I got the card in the mail they sent me the OG Citi Premier even though I got approved for the Strata. The fun fact is when I set up the card on the app it shows as Strata and not premier. Anyway , it looks like I got the old design but “inside” is a Strata Premier.

Nah citi = shiti. To me it doesn’t matter how good the rewards are. It all gets negated when you get a 10k charge and citi refuses to believe it wasn’t you who spent it. I don’t care what new stuff citi rolls out unless it comes with a complete overhaul of their customer service.

I humbly disagree about Citi's problems. It's not the referral bonus...it's their transfer partners. If they added AA...that's what would bring them to the upper tier. I realize you can transfer to Avios...but it's not the same thing as directly to AA. Also, if they could add a better hotel partner, Hyatt...like Bilt did, or Hilton/Marriott at better transfer rates...that would be very nice. All that said, I'm currently working on the Citi quadfecta for my P2. Having an all Mastercard strategy is simply amazing with the Curve card.

I think the deeper one gets in the game, the better citi transfer partners get. I don’t think transferring to Marriott or Hilton is a great idea and Hyatt isn’t happening.

I think the biggest problem with Amex’s travel protections is the flight insurance only kicks in for RETURN flights. But for those that like multi city travels, or using different airlines, it’s useless. I use the Bilt’s cards protections for it

I got the premier last year when I saw how open EVA award space in J is to Taiwan. Almost everyday of the week once you are a general member. Surprised you didn't mention it. It has been a reliable way to get to China and Taiwan. Plus I didn't have a grocery card so this card was perfect 3x on travel and groceries. Plus a unique 1:1 transfer to EVA. Looks like I am transitioned to the Strata card so yay travel protections. Might be giving up my reserve since I am almost at transition time for the Ritz card.

Isn’t that $100 hotel credit only credited after a $500 booking? Are you able to pay partial points with Citi Travel you think or is this full cash price to get that credit? Otherwise, I think the Chase Sapphire Preferred’s $50 credit might even be more useful personally haha. Seems like a legit earner, and a great welcome offer, not sure if I’d keep after a year based on how I spend though. Interesting Luke! They for sure are the hot topic right now like you said haha.

It’s $500 cash through the portal. But it earns 10x thank you points. $50 is probably easier but $500 for me is any stay, once a year. Easy enough I don’t even think about it. CSP will still that that $45 left over with the worst earnings out of any card in the world (kinda). Haha.
