It’s funny I know a hong konger colleague. He’s the 9th child, all his siblings are girls. He’s the nicest guy ever and gets pushed around by his sisters Had another friend whose aunties said to the Mom, oh don’t waste money on piano and violin for your daughter , it’s not worth!

Lord, please help that family...! Thanks for sharing, that sounds like my friend from high school!

Wow this explains so much about living in Taiwan. I'm white American with a Taiwanese gf. I always wonder why her extended families don't get together like mine do!
@donaldkhlee20 сағат бұрын
Hahaha. Now you know. It's crazy. Maybe that's why i'm attracted to white girls.

This video is so timely for me. I literally had an entire conversation about this very topic yesterday. Such a heavy emphasis on Male's, my parent's had 5 girls (me being the 5th) before they finally got their son. Its weird 😂, and I dont like it either but I understand why. Another great vid 🙌 Im loving these little trails you end up on and Dallas seems beautiful. I'm a park person too. So nice to just sit and decompress (I have to stop talking to myself as I journal because I think I scared an elderly couple on Monday) 😂😂 Have an amazing week ahead Donald. God bless you 🙏❤️ also if you can, get the dog 🐕 ❤

Keep talking to yourself! It is God talking through you to give you insights on paper! That's how He authored the bible! Bless your parents they got their son, but I hope you and your sisters don't take it a bad way. Y'all are all valued and loved by your Christian brothers and sisters and our heavenly father! God bless! Prayin' for you!

Hey Donald! Greg here(if you remember). Enjoyed your video. Appreciate your comments and insights. I love Asian ppl. You really understand personality, character, heart-struggles. Sad when we stereotype and categorize and label ppl. Also sad when culture and family expectations and manners and customs tell us how to live, or else be rejected. Just keep living your life, Donald. And be an example to ppl. Love you, man. God bless you.

Yes sir! Springfield, Missouri right? Love you too Greg, love that you have such an open mind to different cultures. Not so many people like you in the USA! Praying for you brother. God bless!

I was borned in Hong Kong and moved to USA in 1970. My parents always included my Sister (who was originally born in China) socially and also in inheritance when they passed away.

I live in a fairly rural area so I have plenty of places to go hiking. That's definitely where I go to process my thoughts. My ancestors were a matriarchal society so children were traced through the mother. Women are held in high esteem because they carry the power of creation in them. I'm so glad you're determined to change the negative traditions of previous generations!
@donaldkhleeКүн бұрын
That's awesome. Where are your ancestors from? Indeed, women do carry the power of creation! 🙏❤️
@MarieLesherКүн бұрын
@donaldkhlee North America 😁 Most eastern Indigenous American people were matriarchal societies. All people were important to the balance of the tribe. My great grandparents on my mother's side actually immigrated to the US from the reservation in Quebec.

99% chinese, female asian. oldest. i never felt that i had to prove myself academically but i was beat up all the time bc i was blamed for my younger siblings misbehaving. my fam had only 1 son and my brother disowned my widowed mom. he recently made up w her after taking ecstasy lol.
@donaldkhlee12 сағат бұрын
Wait. What's the 1% haha? Hope you are healing. It makes no sense to be beat up for your siblings misbehaving. Sounds like you have a huge story, makes me curious, especially the ecstasy part.

My co worker only has a daughter no other children, I think he wishes he had a son since he only had one.

Common asian desire. But hurts the daughter I feel. Hope we can step away from the gender bias.
@darren5597Күн бұрын
This is not even a purely Asian phenomenon. We should all aspire to diminish the level of discrimination but there are some things that are deeply tied to our ancient pre-civilisation relations. Every man wants someone who will replace him as some way to survive death. This still has currency in the old world.
@donaldkhleeКүн бұрын
I'm not going to lie. I do want a son one day. I think there are connections between father and son and father and daughter that are different. But daughter or son, i'm fine with whatever gender.
@darren5597Күн бұрын
@@donaldkhlee As do I. I think I want a son not because I prefer boys over girls but that a boy performs a very specific function . It's duty rather than a discriminatory desire. After a girl and a boy are born, I will not prefer one over the other. Our mothers and fathers perform different functions. Although it may be easier to show affection to one's mother more than one's father, I think most people love their parents the same.

thats a very old old fashioned belief. i know chinese families where the daughter is treated better than the son. the daughter is more successful , smarter, went to very good university...etc . theres more to the story than old school values. it very depends on the family
@SoftDoughboyКүн бұрын
even in china, it's not uncommon for daughters to be treated better because they are rarer than men
@donaldkhleeКүн бұрын
That's so beautiful to hear! She was blessed!
@DL-idk12 сағат бұрын
@@SoftDoughboyThe stigma definitely still exists though. There is now a word to describe a newly married wife “successfully produce a male child on the very first try”. 一举得男. It’s subtle, but the tone and the suggestion of this phrase say a lot about how a huge number of Chinese people think on this subject.
