It really hit me when you said “Success is going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” I had a really rough 2018. I gave up drugs in January, relapsed in February, but told myself that would be the last time and I have been clean since. Then a few days after my relapse, my mother stole $1,100 from me and kicked me out when I called her out on it. Then I lost 2 friends to suicide, 1 to murder, and another drowned on July 4th. I was academically dismissed from my University, but was accepted back in. I was also diagnosed with depression, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, and OCD. Good news is that I was accepted back into the university, and now have test accommodations which help out a lot. I just recently lost all financial aid though, and wrote an appeal for that. Now I wait. This rough year has taught me so much, and I have grown immensely.

Providence Family I picked up prescriptions pills when I was 14. I was prescribed a muscle relaxant for my back pain, and I eventually grew a tolerance for it, and thought that taking another pill would help the back pain. Well 2 was too much, and I loved the way it made me feel. I didn’t feel tense. My mother has never been a good person, and made my life a living hell. So I started using it to relieve some of the tension from my everyday life. I then began using whatever medicationI could get my hands on. Which at one point, I was using Valium (I was not prescribed it), and a muscle relaxer at the same time. All of my anxiety was gone, my tension was relieved, and I felt like I could finally breathe. By the time I was 15, I had a problem with pills. I would steal meds from my family and friends. I would sell marijuana do I could afford to buy medication. I was a mess. By 16, I tried adderall for the first time and fell in love. I was noticeably performing better in school. I started working 2 jobs and was a high school student so I could afford my habit. After the adderall came the cocaine. I will be honest, cocaine is one hell of a drug, but it will ruin everything. I began selling my family’s belongings for extra money. At the start of college, I was abusing Valium to keep my sanity, and was also using cocaine as well. I also began drinking every night so I could fall asleep. When January 1, 2018 rolled around, I was having very strong urges, and decided to flush everything I had. Which was approximately $240 worth of various pills, and cocaine. Then on February 23, 2018, I had a rough night and did not sleep. When it was time for me to go to school, I had taken 26mg of Valium. I felt amazing yet horrible at the same time. I was unable to enjoy the high. I told my friend about my mistake, and she went to the bathroom with me between classes and we flushed the rest of the Valium I had. This hurt so much but was also a relief. After I was diagnosed with depression, anxiety, and OCD, my doctor wanted to talk about putting me on medication. It was incredibly hard to tell her “I will look for other alternatives first”. A few months later, I began using CBD oil. I was a major pothead, but then I began getting all of these job offers and decided to stop smoking so I could pass drug tests 😂. I actually prefer the CBD oil now. I get the same relief from my anxiety and back pain that I did with marijuana without the high.

thank you Liza for sharing this. Me personally, I have gone through so much throughout my past two years with mental health. Hearing somebody who we all have a perception of having “ a perfect lifestyle” go through struggles that all of us “normal” people have is truly inspiring. It shows us that nobody is perfect and that we are all normal and we shouldn’t be ashamed of having mental health issues. This is so raw yet amazing at the same time because you have reinvented yourself into a truly wonderful person throughout the year. Whoever is reading this, you are not alone, just like you, the are thousands maybe even millions of people who may not think they are good enough, but I hope that you realise you are so amazing and you have so much to learn about yourself.
