Why i use a SONY a7iii in 2024 for filmmaking

In this video i show you why i chose to get the full frame Sony a7iii camera in 2024 and use it for filmmaking. This camera has good lowlight features, is high quality, and has a good picture profile to be used for colour grading in dehancer. It's really weird to me seeing people regard this camera as "old". My first camera was the a6k when it first came out and I loved that thing, and the a7iii was my dream camera for the future. I was lucky enough to get it last year but when I did research again before buying it I was so surprised to see people now saying it was old news, when it was still the perfect camera to me

Yep, there was a KZbinr kraig adams I used to watch alot in 2018 ever since then I’ve wanted the a7iii. Yes there’s a new version out the a7iv, but for sure it’s still a good camera.

The a7c is way better for video, there's catalyst browse for stabilization in post, better colour science, better menus, it's cheaper even. There's really no reason to get an a7iii if you're doing video

I still use the A7III. Its an amazing camera. If it does the job it does the job init. Its more about the person behind the cam anyway. I actually upgraded to the 4 last year but returned it as I just didnt think it was as good. Great vid mate. Keep up the good work.

I'd highly recommend hlg3, if you're using resolve you just use the hlg 2100 setting in the CST, and then you can plug it into DWG or however you handle your color management. I've gotten far better results from it than SLOG 2, but that's just been my experience. I've had the a7iii since it came out in 2018, and I've since upgraded to the a7s3, but I still use the a7iii pretty often.

I wonder what lenses you're using on that A7III. That was a limiting factor that got me to sell my sony and go back to Nikon. The FE lenses are just too damn expensive. With my D750 and quality lenses with VR (similar to IBIS but in the lens), i get high IQ from a camera from 2014. The lowlight performance is similar but i definitely need a tripod to get sharper photos in low light. Nothing will ever beat the lowlight on that damn sony camera though... Nice video man, the editing is unique

Thanks man, I use the samyang 14mm auto focus lens. Truthfully I got it as a cheap alternative to the Sony wide zoom lenses, but I didn’t expect it to be as good as it is. For how cheap it is especially.

Gotta look really good, smooth, nice blur/ autofocus. Cant get to 2000 bucks. I got in mind the sony 6600 with a sigma 24, 1,4 prime lense (i learned that i prolly dont need a zoom lense for that use only) Any other to consider?

Yeah, main reason was I didn’t like the lenses available for the s5, they were either too expensive or there just wasn’t a lot available, it’s definitely the opposite for Sony full frame

Bro I got an fx3 with my internship savings as a graphic designer and editor and the fact that you’re not getting any grain is so confusing cause with Slog, Im just constantly getting grain in the shadows. Idk if that’s just what happens when you shoot 12800 iso (second base) in darker settings or if I’m not exploiting something coloring wise

Maybe bro, even tho with a Sony i still try to Keep my iso low and not too high. If im in a rush and not exposing properly too, I’ll get noise in the shadows is what I’ve noticed. Since I’m shooting in slog2 also, I try expose 2 stops over with the exposure dial, hope that helps bro 🙏🏾

You need 10 bit colour. Been using this camera and shooting on log for 3 years and since the upgrade the colour is SO much better and less washed out

Good point I’m due to try out the a7iv properly for a week or so & the time will soon come to upgrade, but the mark 3 so far is a major upgrade from what I was on before

If you’re looking for longevity and selling in the future I’d look to the newer model like the a74. But Sony cameras in general retain value and can sell for a good price used, check mpb and wex cameras websites to see proof.
