How do you run so many plug ins without pro tools crashing? What computer do you use? I use a macbook pro 2015 with 16gb of ram and i7. I have max buffer size and external ssd and would never be able to run that many plug ins. If you could help I would appreciate it so much! I run my own recording studio and I always feel limited by how many plug ins I can use.

Speaking of a Compressors tone; Im amazed at the difference between the VCA's, FET's, Opto & Digital Logic Compressors that are so doggone district from one another. (Once again in Logic Pro) The use of Soft Distortion on Drums is been a life saver on the tracks that ive been making. How is it that these Compressors sound so incredibly different from one another with some basically trashing the sound. Noticing that out of the 7 Types of Logic Compressors there is usually one thats the proper tone for the drums. It must have really been expensive back when in analog, if different colours & compressor tones varied so much as in Logic's representation of them if they aren't simply exaggerated their tones?

This video opened my eyes... I learned too much compression was a big no no but what should really matter is the final product, there are so many different ways to approach a vocal and seeing someone use three compressors on just one vocal is eye opening.. In college, NOBODY will tell you to use more than one compressor, two is almost a taboo and this is what they teach in school...

Do you treat the background vocals and the adlibs the same as your lead vocal? meaning three compressors
@obryanmiezan81923 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question, I would even ask in a general sense. Do you process background vocals/ad-libs, the same as lead ones ? In terms of : EQing, Compressing, De-Essing...
@lilkenny833 жыл бұрын
@@obryanmiezan8192 I process mine different from the lead. I take out more on the low-end when EQing my backs and most times on my libs to allow my lead to be more centered
@obryanmiezan81923 жыл бұрын
@@lilkenny83 Would only make sense to take out the lows I guess ? Since they fulfill a different function in the entire track. But I meant in more as, apart from EQing differently, background vocals are still undergoing that : cleaning frequencies, leveling, controlling dynamics, adding colors etc... Or do you do less ? If you’ve watched his videos about obtaining a ‘ X artist ‘ vocal sound, you’ll see Devvon have a specific pattern for mixing vocals
@lilkenny833 жыл бұрын

I don't get it. It turns out that to hear these subtle nuances, we need to train our ears and listen carefully on good acoustics in the studio. But then why do we need them, because when we listen to songs through our iPhones, we enjoy the words and the music? Isn't just good basic mixing enough?
