Why I Use Unity In 2024?

These are the reasons I use Unity in 2024, I hope this helps anyone else that's out there on the edge of choosing an engine and this helps you chose what best fits you.

DAWG WHAT!?!?!. your telling me this whole time I could have just been using my blend files to make changes without needing to replace the old fbx to make sure it imports properly. I knew about the psd files but this is a real life changer. Big ups

Hey, man. I really appreciate this video. I work at Unity and it is sometimes a bit hard to hear all the negative feedback from things that are outside of my control. But, hearing this great feedback on the overall Unity ecosystem really makes me remember why I started working here, and the big impact it has on the game dev world. I understand you've been using Unity for a very long time and you are immersed and used to that world but man let me tell you as someone who has used both engines for years at a time. When it comes to community support and tutorials even marketplace assets hey offer the same things!

I'm not saying unreal doesn't offer those things, I bet they are very similar when it comes to those. The only part I wanted to compare UE5 was the UI, although the things after I just reasons I continue to use unity. If they weren't there I would have already switched to UE probably.

i respect your decision and reasons. but something pretty important to touch on: if users show that they are willing to continue using the product after what happened, Unity as a company may see that as validation and feel more comfortable to make anti-user decisions in the future. afterall, if they dont suffer consequences in the long run, whats to stop them from trying again later?

I mean a big chunk of the team was fired and they have a new CEO which seems to be way more in touch with reality. They didnt go through with it, learned their lesson and move forward now. Of course nothing is stopping them from pulling some things again, and it will for ever be a big corporation so out of touch decisions are probably always exist but for me the fact that they pulled back and went as far as replacing the CEO because of it is a good sign. Even then, you can't live with doubts and grudges right? I bet you that if everyone would think about you as you do about unity, your life would be quite sad.

They reverted the changes because of the feedback. They tried something, it didn't work, so they changed it. I don't see your point

I exclusively use unreal and recently tried out Unity; It's definitely easier to understand. I think it's best to just pick an engine and you like it, as long as it's capable of doing what you want. Hell FNAF was made in Clickteam Fusion 2.5 that looks horrific.

Yes I agree, it's best to choose whatever engine you enjoy using most as both have been able to make amazing games.

The UI was upgraded a long time ago in UE5 and looks WAYYYY better than unity's lol

I used that photo which was directly from their site talking about UE5. Also while watching new Devlogs where they are using UE5 I still have a very strong preference of Unity's UI. Although both are great engines and capable of awesome things so really comes down to preference.
