I plan on adding an ADU on top of my 2 car garage in Sacramento, CA; is it better to use 2x8 framing for the walls of the garage? ideas are appreciated, and I'd like to have it as solid as your project.

The only way you can accomplish that is by building from the ground up (new construction).

Beams run horizontal, and studs run vertical. But breathe easy...You can see a new stud (at the correct height) being installed at 2:01

Hard to say without looking at plans or the property, but you should expect to pay 175% more than last year!

Idk dude, with the higher cost of energy. 2x8 provides extra insulation for those hot summers in SoCal. I'm considering doing the same or doing a traditional framed building with interior framed walls with a 2 inch gap to give me a total of 10 inches of insulation.
