NEVER let anyone make you feel this way. Lorraine Massey started the whole curly girl method and also founded Devacurl. Most people who shout from the rooftops have a motive for doing so. She made a hell of a lot of money after convincing people that silicones and sulfates are the devil. Well, I never lost hair from sulfates or silicones. Devacurl on the other hand is getting slapped with a class action lawsuit for the damage they've done to peoples hair and scalp. They're literally the new Wen. Figuring out who the devil is with this one is pretty easy!

I currently use Tresemme` Keratin smooth shampoo and conditioner 3 times a week and then I airdry and use OGX Coconut milk anti- breakage serum 80% dry and I apply OGX miracle oil when my hair is 95% dry and before bed and in the mornings AND OMGG MY HAIR HAS NEVER FELT HEALTHIER!!🥰 And I have gone sulfate and silicone free with my shampoos and conditioners before I used Maui Moisture for a year and my hair didn't feel as good, my hair was very frizzy and my scalp didn't feel as clean! I believe avoiding a sealant before the styling products is very difficult if not impossible. Isnt it that most if not all the products which don't have silicones would have a lot of oils to on the top of their ingredient list? If so, oils either penetrate your hair (so extra product cant get in) or coat it so the water stays longer in the hair and once again, no other product will be able to penetrate your hair. So I believe shampoo is key, is the only thing that we should all agree cant be avoided, regardless of moisturizing strategy, with out it, either silicones or oils will coat our hair.

I'm precisely at the one year mark of my CGM journey. My hair is at the awkward length and I'm finally committed to growing it out baby steps by baby steps. It's been about a month now since I kinda started to hate the shape of it; the texture is so soft but the shape and the crown of my head is.. Ugh. I've now decided to go back to soft sulfates and silicones with nourishing products in between. And god, it's already looking a lot better. So, thank you for this video! I feel less guilty towards my commitment to CGM and the health of my hair. And by the way, I never took this into account while doing CGM but I do live on a tropical island and very close to the sea. What do you suggest for between washes? my hair tangles very badly, and I need some kind of spray just to be able to comb it. I have to comb it as well between washes, or else my shed hairs tangle up in my hair. So I have to use something between my washes, but would like to use something that will not cause too much build up, maybe with more water soluble silicones. I live in a humid area too, it gets cold and damp, with coastal fog. It does get dry sometimes, but it is fairly humid most of the time. I also live in a place with hard tap water, of which I don't have much control over on this. I find my hair snaps and breaks a lot while tangled, or even just putting a scrunchie or other hair tie in it, I hear it snapping and popping, with lots of resistance. It is painful just to try to run my fingers through my hair, they just snag on it, with lots of fairy knots. My hair is a really mixed bag; it is long, just past my bottom, with finer straighter hair on the top and crown of my head, and thicker courser waves on the bottom half of the length, and course curly hair on the nape of my neck that tangles badly too. I get a lot of compliments, and I want to keep it long, but it gets frustrating. I also don't do updos or anything much, because the weight of it just pulls all or any updo down quickly, I end up resorting to just a low ponytail to keep it out of my face.
@godblessamericamyhomesweet10944 жыл бұрын
I have pretty good luck with a spray bottle filled with mostly water and a tablespoon or two of conditioner. You can add a few drops of oil as well if you use oils on your hair. My hair gets extremely tangled too, and the one thing that helped the most after trying every recommendation under the sun is adding steam when I deep condition. The first time I tried it I washed my hair prior to getting in the shower, then applied deep conditioner. Once in the shower the hot steam did an amazing job. For the rest of the week my hair detangled easier than it ever has. I still use my water/conditioner daily because I just cannot imagine not detangling my hair daily. However, I was able to use less spray and detangle much faster. The steam opens the cuticles and allows moisture and nutrients from the deep conditioner to absorb inside the hair shaft. I hate long hot showers so I am going to bite the bullet and buy a real steamer. I have low porosity hair, so getting the cuticle to open is crucial. Also my low porosity hair does not like protein, and I have yet to find a refresher that does not contain protein. That is why I just make my own concoction. Protein makes my hair very brittle and will break very quickly if I use it. Your hair may be the same as well. Try steam and perhaps try protein free products and opt for moisture based products, especially in your stylers and deep conditioners, as they sit on the hair the longest. Even coconut oil and aloe vera make my hair brittle and cause breakage as they can mimic protein in low porosity hair. The best products for me that contain oil is sunflower oil. It's very lightweight and my hair loves it. Good luck, and sorry for the novel.

I love adding a layer of gel at the end to seal in everything and give me extra hold because my hair is so long it weighs itself down. Mousse is my OG styler and depending on the mousse and styling technique you can get pretty great results but I still recommend at least a light layer of gel on top to hold everything in place. If you’re using mousse look for one that’s moisturizing yet still lightweight, I’ve used the herbal essences totally twisted mousse for over a decade and it’s always worked out for me.

Honestly, how long should the “transition phase” last 😩 my hair is still struggling to assimilate to no sulfate and silicone and it’s been a couple months 😭 maybe I can’t find the right products? Idk but my hair is still frizzy and a little dry 😩 It’s frustrating

Destiny McGehee ughhh I feel like it’s been that long & I am frustrated. Only thing that helps is doing a hair mask but then my hair dries out again after a day or so 😔 guess I’ll just keep being patient

Can you make a video on drugstore heat protectants that don’t have silicones?
@SuhannaDeSilva4 жыл бұрын
I honestly don’t know of any silicone free heat protectants from the drugstore or at least any that are sold in Canada. Phyto makes a silicone free thermal spray but it’s on the pricey side.

I use Not Your Mother's Passion Fruit Kombucha & Awapuho Ginger Leave-in Tonic. I've been using it for over a year and my hair is healthy and no heat damage. I diffuse on high and high heat every 3-7 days depending.

"That's why I don't have a lot of frizz" Hun your hair is nothing but frizz in this video

So you came here just to leave a condescending comment 🆗
@destinymcgehee98074 жыл бұрын
@@SuhannaDeSilva no I came to see if going back to sulfate would be a good idea for me. But if your are giving hair advice don't lie. You can't say you have sleek shiny hair when your hair is frizzy as hell in the video. There is nothing wrong with frizz but be honest that using sulfate has increased your frizz. I simply can't stand liars.

If you watch my very first hair related videos (DC wave maker review, DC light defining gel review) then you can see how much frizz I ACTUALLY had compared when my hair was unhealthy. I always tell you guys to do what works for your hair and if what I’m doing works for me then I’ll share that. If I come off as being a liar and as having an entire head of frizzy hair, don’t listen to what I’m saying and do you.

How rude! Her hair is NOT frizzy.... I will never understand keyboard ninjas who think they are entitled to leave nasty comments. 🙄
@destinymcgehee98074 жыл бұрын
@@lorabetht9206 you see all those little stands of single hairs floating around her head? That's frizz. Nothing wrong with frizz, but don't lie and say your routine prevents it when it doesnt. Maybe open a dictionary next time karen.
