For 1 day is a nice city, but if you wanna really enjoy it….you should explore either before 10am or after 6pm when all the tourists from the cruise ships are gone

Dont forget about garbage how much Tourist bring it I think they should reduce tourismus almost everything is destroyed and only mafia become money not people who live there....and a lot Restaurant and Hotels they belong to people from Others countrys Not from Croatian people....

depends where you go. Dubrovnik is experiencing overtourism, so it's got to be expensive to get ppl out. In the inner city it is expensive, but outside it is more affordable. You can always ask the locals where those places are. Take care and greetings from Croatia. :)

Dubrovnik is more expensive than Zagreb, the capital. There are a thousand better places in Croatia than Dubrovnik, which is more for "elites" ( millionaires ). It is good to stop for a day, take a walk, look at the architecture and history, and that's it...

It’s no scam , if you can’t afford it , don’t go …. You paid 7.80€ for 2 of the best gelato in Dubrovnik including tax . Rome prices are the same

We spent 3 days in the Dubrovnik. We allways went to eat outside old town walls. 15 mins walk and you get reasonable prices . We just had occasional beer inside the walls here and there. The ramparts walls is absolutely a must despite the price- even if entry fee is expensive, its worth it. There are also beautiful hikes up the hills overlooking Dubrovnik. Stunning views of the old town from the hills above (and there is a funicular for those too lazy to climb;))

The city is definitely a jewel, but unfortunately it has been transformed into a kind of theme park for tourists who stay 1 day or 2. Prices ever higher than London!😲

@@whereisgabri3641 Agreed, but think of Venice. Problem is not unique to Dubrovnik. Its probably not the most convenient to live in flats in those old houses within the walls for a person living in 21st century(niet speakkng about doing some business there other than something related to tourism). so depopulation is unforrunately unavoidable I think. Would you really want to have your permanent home there? Very sad, but I guess unavoidable. We have the similar effect here in Prague with the historic center of town si I can relate. At least here with PRG being a ‘real city’ of 1.3 million, some ‘local life’ in the medieval historic center is holding on due to number of facilties of the Charles university , theatres where locals go still located in the historic center etc- but that is completely different situation from a small town like Dubrovnik. But still very sad of course, seeing this depopulation of the historic center of my town and seeing it turning into a ‘theme park’ over last two decades as you put it.- oh, how I hate seeing some of nice pubs and places I used to frequent being taken over by ‘daytrippers’

@@letecmig i love Prague. Maybe the fact that it’s a big city makes the gentrification of the city centre less visible. Another big issue of Dubrovnik it’s the vast majority of tourists are coming from the cruise ships and they literally stay few hours in the city. Bars/restaurants don’t have any incentive to satisfy them as they will leave in few hours anyway. Another issue is that the city is truly touristic just few months a year (compared to Prague the whole year) therefore local business increase prices to boost revenues in the summer months

@@whereisgabri3641 its not about 'gentrification' in PRG. That happens in all districts of PRG, I guess its not the word you wanted to use. Regarding the medieval historic center/district, its about locals moving out over last 20 years to districts with more comfortable environment for 'regular life' (noise,lack of 'local life 'amenities , mess etc etc). Also its simply that most residents of PRG have less and less reasons to go to historic city center as 'local life' nearly disappeared. You simply (for example) do not want to have a dinner in a restaurant full of short term visitors for many reasons, or go to a pub crowded with noisy visitors on vacations.

@@letecmig i guess it’s a very similar story in Rome, my hometown. Life outside of the historical centre it’s far more comfortable for a variety of reasons. But at least you can still find very old businesses and there is still an “old authentic vibe” which is charming. Unfortunately i really could not find this in Dubrovnik.

@@whereisgabri3641 ohh btw Fakulteta in sofia is far from being dangerous, in fact its hard to find a dangerous spot in bulgaria at all, maybe partly the gypsy neighborhood in plovdiv or some parts on the black sea more likely Burgas or Varna
