So I have a fantastically relevant story to share about the Cecil hotel --- My now husband and two of his friends went on a cross country road trip the summer of 2013, as young adults. They made it to L.A. in August, but since it was the last leg of their trip they were pretty much out of money. To cut costs, they decided to stay at one of the cheapest hotels they could find... you guessed it, the Cecil hotel. They hadn't heard of what happened at the hotel earlier that year so they went about their stay as normal. They had many memorable moments being so close to Skid Row, but the most memorable (at least after the fact) was getting absolutely trashed the last night of their stay. My husband and one friend wake the next morning to find that their third friend is missing. They search the hotel and try calling him but can't find him. Hours go by and he finally returns to the room. When asked where he was he said that he must have gotten way too drunk last night because he doesn't remember anything and he woke up... ON THE ROOF. (yes I know this sounds like The Hangover). They laughed it off as him being stupid drunk and assured him he must have come up with the brilliant idea to go up to the roof all on his own because they definitely didn't go up there or suggest it. Anyways, a few weeks later, when they returned home and were telling people about their trip they finally learned about Elisa Lam and what happened at the Cecil Hotel, thus becoming the most memorable, but least actually remembered, part of their trip. --- Luckily my husbands friend just fell asleep up there and didn't "accidentally drown" in the water tank. And also, apparently it wasn't that hard to get up to the roof, even after what happened to Elisa Lam. Either that or it was a GHOST! that got him up there --- Also, love the video! But I think I prefer the research before the video way because it feels so much more official and dramatic lol

I worked at a very fine hotel in center city Philadelphia, I worked as a housekeeper. When things were found (blood, urine, feces, cult objects and weapons) management told us to “get rid of it” meaning throw it in the trash chute (that leads to a large garbage vat in the locked basement that gets taken every Sunday by waste management ) as if nothing happened. There were times I found blood and reported it and they told me to mind my business and clean it. I found a knife stained with some liquid (idk if it was blood or rust?) in an extended stay room under a mattress while someone was still inhabiting the room but out for business this person typically left the “do not disturb “ on the door and would leave a note on the door to leave things outside for them(extra towels coffee mix etc) but this day they didn’t. After this persons stay ended they tipped 100$ and wrote a weird note stating (thanks for looking out) weird way to say thank you to a housekeeper? Ps... this hotel has 5/5 stars 🙃

Something else to consider, that maybe someone else has already mentioned - back before fingerprints and more specifically DNA were regularly used to investigate death, if the police couldn't figure out what happened, it was often ruled a suicide. I have a weird Vegas hotel story....so when Mykie mentioned that a lot of things that happen in hotels in Las Vegas go unreported to not hurt tourism i got a weird feeling. So i was staying in a room by myself on a hotel off the strip and my room was near the back stair door entrance and i was a few floors up. So it was my last night and I was just falling asleep at 2am when all of a sudden this man (sounded like a young man) started crying and screaming for help and banging on my door. I freaked out and jumped out of bed. Now I was a solo female traveller in early 20s so there was nooooo way in hell I was going to open my hotel door. I could see someones shadow under the door like they were slumped up against it. I called reception and they sent up security. The receptionist heard the guy crying and screaming but when the security guy cam to my floor, apparently there was no sign of anyone....and nothing was reported....That was the freakiest hotel experience I have ever had.
@hyolife19974 жыл бұрын
That's really scary but tragic. Most likely it was a ghost you encountered, I wonder why he was screaming and calling for help. Things like this makes you think a lot of what happened to those kinds of people but sometimes you'll never really know the truth behind it

I didnt get any ghosty vibes...i think it was real but as a solo female traveller, you learn very early on to be cautious of every situation, even if it might seem safe. I have been followed to a hotel room before and was afraid it was someone trying to coax me into letting them in. The security guard played it off as a bunch of drunk people but it felt a lot more sinister than that. Either someone was in real trouble or someone was trying to get in... I feel as though it's the later because they disappeared when security came around.... Very weird situation

Hello. Bipolar person weighing in on Elisa’s case, here. I noticed on her toxicology report that Elisa was on Seroquel. It was the pediatric dose so she might have just started taking it and was in the process of titrating up or it wasn’t high enough to treat her psychotic symptoms, but either way, medicine doesn’t lie. She also wasn’t taking her other meds regularly (which can cause psychotic episodes due to higher anxiety b/c the antidepressants she was on were SNRIs and NDRIs) and only had Wellbutrin and Seroquel in her system the day she died. All of this to say as much as I’d love to prove everyone wrong about it being a manic psychotic episode and furthering the stigma of bipolar disorder being “dangerous,” in this case, I can’t. Elisa had a psychotic episode which resulted in her death. It’s unfortunate for her, her family and the bipolar community at large, to say the least. As a side note: Elisa took rooftop photos regularly and took one from the Cecil hotel, so she was clearly able to get up there with no problems. Unsure why the door to the water container wasn’t locked properly, but that combined with hallucinations of being chased and her propensity for being on rooftops... doesn’t take a rocket scientist to connect the dots.

"Imagine sharing a room with someone who turned out to be a serial killer" When my dad was younger he lived next to one of the killers in the Truro Murders (Australia), dad remembered him being a nice guy and talked to him frequently but remembered always hearing him beat his wife and was so shocked when he saw his mugshot on the news and learnt of the crimes he was involved in. It still freaks me out to this day to think that my dad could have been murdered but he just thinks its an interesting fact. Edit: didn't think this would pick up so much traction but I thought I would clarify some things. 1. Yes my dad didn't report the domestic violence (have never asked him why he didn't) and he regrets not reporting it but back then it was common (still doesn't make it okay) but she ended up getting out okay after he was locked up and we sometimes see her and she's doing so well and thanks dad for having conversations with her when he could because her ex husband (the serial killer) wouldn't let her out of the building complex. 2. Even though dad knew he was beating his wife it was still shocking to see his mugshot on the news since dad had conversed with him frequently and would never think that someone who you thought was somewhat decent would be a serial killer. If I think of anymore things that I need to address or anymore questions I'll try my best to answer them.

As someone who was born and raised in Las Vegas I can confirm everything Mykie is saying. Both my parents worked in major casinos and their bosses allowed me to stay with them so they didn't need a baby sitter. I was always around crazy things. The Luxor is also built on a sacred Indian burial site. When I was older I worked at the stratosphere for a couple of years and there were 3 people in those 2 years that jumped off the top no one was called, it wasn't reported and the staff had to clean the bioharzard material. I have many friends that work security and I get videos and stories from all over theres countless terrorist threats, there was a bomb found at circus circus during Halloween when they were doing fright dome... I could literally go on and on... I would love a video on it Mykie

HOTEL DEATH STORY: My family owns a small 13 bedroom Hotel in Spain, we've been open for 4 years, and we already had our first death. Since it is small, we actually live in the hotel to take care of it at night. One night we were just me and my sister, and we received a call at 2 AM from a room. A woman was saying that her husband wasn't breathing, so we rushed to the bedroom wile calling the emergency line, while an ambulance was coming, they told us though the phone that we had to take the man down the bed and put on the floor to start CPR, he was a very heavy old man but we managed to do it and followeed the instructions, a few minutes later I rushed to the front door to open the main gates to the police and the ambulance, they were not able to do anithing, so at around 5 in the morning a doctor came to confirm and sign the death, and at 6 a van from the local mortuary took the body. We quickly prepared another room for the wife and moved her there. At 8 we were serving breakfast and NONE of the other guests knew anything about what happened that night. The wife had to stay a few days to make the paperwork for the body, and a friend took the first flight to be with her, but we had the hotel fully booked and we changed her room because we were not going to let her sleep in the same bed where his husband died.... so we cleaned the room and made a few room reassignments and 24hrs later we were checking in a couple in that room. This happens more often than you think. They was a happy old couple enjoying retirement, that night before they were drinking Gin on the bar and enjoing life, when we went to the room they were both naked and the woman was just wearing a bathrobe. Moral of the story, live all your days like they were your last, aaaand, when you are in a hotel room, maybe the night before someone died and they just cleaned the room and gave it to you :)

TW I worked in a hotel (in Ireland) for 3 years and we had 3 suicides while I worked there. One was a man who was staying on business. Apparently he hung himself in his room. Another was a teenage boy - his parents were downstairs in the hotel bar when it happened. And the third was a woman who was from the local area, drove around the hotel multiple times, and found somewhere to climb on the OUTSIDE of the building and jumped. Lots of guests and staff saw that one.. I thankfully wasn’t on duty when any of this happened

I worked at a motel for over five years and yes, there were a couple of suicides in the time I was there. There were also a few drug overdoses and natural deaths as well. It’s normally a whole process, not only with reporting the event, but also the cleanup. Technically employees were supposed to have specialized training to clean up after a dead body, but this was a literal side of the road motel and my manager would just hand me a trash bag and a ton of rags and tell me to get the blood up. I did have one event that will forever haunt me, where a man checked in for the express purpose of killing himself, but we had a work order on his room because the AC was broken or something, so my maintenance man went in to fix after no answer at the knock on his door to find the man passed out after having tried to cut out his own heart. It was just me and the maintenance guy that night so he ended up coming to get me to come help and to call the police, and it is to this day one of the worst things I’ve ever seen. I’m slightly uncomfortable relating the gory details of a mans lowest point, but it was definitely a lot to witness as a 19 year old. The man ended up surviving, thank god, but there was also a weird twist to the story where his wife showed up later that night looking for him because she saw the credit card charge and thought he was cheating on her and brought her brother to come “kick his ass” and it was just a lot for one night. Be kind to hospitality workers, they deal with a lot 🖤

The Elisa Lam mystery has actually been somewhat solved. There's footage a guy had made showing how easy it actually is to get to the top of the water tanks. Even to this day, the hotel has not made the roof area hard for hotel guests to reach. But in the footage, the guy is able to reach the top of the water tanks by climbing onto the storage building next to the tanks. Also, the hotel owners or staff still didn't lock the rooftop door even after Elisa's death, which is why the guy was able to show how to get to the tanks. She was on a lot of different medications for anxiety, depression, her bipolar disorder, and other things. Her manic behavior was possibly caused by taking too much of the meds, or not enough of the meds. Its still a strange death and its very sad to think about what her final thoughts were. I hope the hotel will start locking that roof top door.

I used to work in housekeeping at an inn in my small, southwestern Ontario town back in high school. Once I had to help clean up blood from a guy who had split his head open the night before, and I hated it. It was after a wedding that was held on the property, so it was late and this guy was really drunk. The way the room was laid out, there was a desk and chair to the left of the door, the bathroom just beyond the desk, and the bed and other furniture out and off to the left of the bathroom. The guy slipped on the tile floor of the bathroom, hit his head on the desk, and sprayed blood everywhere. Thankfully he was okay, but 16-year-old me and a coworker had to spend basically the whole next day cleaning the room, which was carpeted btw. We ended up having to have the bedding either professionally cleaned (comforter, blanket, bed skirt, mattress protector) or thrown out (fancy pillows and the sheets), and we spent almost the whole day going over the entire carpet with our carpet cleaner (we even had to move the bed and night stand out of the room because the blood splattered almost the whole length of the room). I'm super thankful that the guy was okay, but I was kind of traumatized by the sight of all the blood, having to wear safety glasses, gloves, and put bags on my shoes to clean, and how normal business was after that.

HEAR ME OUT: Two different types of merch. One with a “Glam” theme & one with a “Gore” theme. & MAYBE as a bonus piece you could do a hoodie/tshirt/sweatpants where half of it is glam & the other half is gore.

Maybe not like super gore tho? Bc if you wear it in public or something then you don't really know if someone gets triggered by it or they have a panic attacks. So what if it was like, the word Glam in super pretty like rhinestones, and gore in monster teeth :)
@carli94534 жыл бұрын
MooseMouse no i definitely don’t think it should be super gorey. I definitely meant like distressed. Like a ripped looked- maybe claw marks? bleach dyed. I love the teeth idea. I didn’t mean so much “gore”- more of like a -not glam- effect lol. I definitely understand what you’re saying though!!

The Elisa lam case makes me SO uneasy... like the guests were literally tasting her in the water... and that elevator footage made me SO uncomfortable. At first I thought she was just manic but she kept hiding in the corner of the elevator, and then the elevator works as soon as she gets off???
@harleyjohnson90984 жыл бұрын
So I had never heard of the Elisa Lam case but when Mykie was showing the footage and telling the story, I knew exactly what she was talking about. I remember seeing it on some show like Bones or Criminal Minds or something like that but never realized that it was a real case

ELISA is a actually pronounced like "Eliza" and stands for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. They're tests that detect the presence of certain antibodies you're looking for in a sample. So when an antibody has binded to its antigen like puzzle pieces, the solution changes colour or can fluoresce depending on the indicator you use in the experiment. So while it's spooky that ELISA is used for Elisa's case, it's more of a coincidence than anything. Sorry if I burst any bubbles 😅
@brittanysant86974 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I was going to comment the same thing. Very popular method for testing.
@duckyqueeny624 жыл бұрын
Was about to comment the same thing as well!! I've used ELISA a ton in biochemistry research. Also LAM stands for lipoarabinomannan, a glycolipid that TB employs to inactive macrophages and scavenge oxidative radicals. Simply put, TB uses this glycolipid to make white blood cells useless and to protect itself from oxidative radicals that are toxic to the mycobacterium. Super cool mechanisms to study, but really sucks that TB is so specialized in undermining our immune system
@torikorn49564 жыл бұрын
I came to say the same! Scientist here who has done quite a few ELISAs in her day 😊👩🔬 but it is spelled the same, so still just as creepy imo! I saw the word ELISA and had a nerd moment 🤣
@bbygirlx314 жыл бұрын
Yes, but like...that's the whole reason it's creepy lol because the test which has absolutely nothing to do with Elisa Lam and has a totally different meaning and reason it's called that, is somewhat connected to her story. Creepy

Theirs someone who actually walked into the hotel and the roof door was unlocked. The hotel was actually under fire from the family because of the high possibility of the hotel having left the door open and covering it up to not be in involved since the hotel already didn't have much of a reputation.
@atr3us4 жыл бұрын
I worked at a hotel once, and had to clean up a "crime scene". I wont say any details, but at the hotel I worked at, when the "incident" happened, we were instructed not to give any info to guests if they requested or asked about it. Again, it was probably for sales purposes etc, but we were also told not to let people stay in the specific room if they asked for the specific room. Idk why, but yea. A co-worker of mine told me once that the reason we weren't aloud to do this because people would commit s*cide in the same room as others and blame it on the presence of the other deaths to take a weight off of their loved ones shoulders when they passed. Never believed them. Love you Mykie!

@@kaydiglawson7767 no you don't. Suicides at home are often left for the families to clean up. It's up to the next of kin/household to have cleaners come. People can't always afford that so end up doing it themselves.

I prefer the more in depth none-google-y videos just because it feels more concise to watch (like the LRAD video). I like the ramble videos too but I think that suits the make up videos more. With these I love how seriously you tend to take them and love the information you provide us with - it brings new things to light I hadn't thought of or heard of before you posted the videos. On another note - I love the idea that for this month, maybe see if Peter will do the reading if you do the research and then comment on it both together while you do your make up. That would make it a bit of ramble and a lot of info still and maybe combine it well? :D I didn't write this well at all, but I hope you get the concept!
