Good looks matter a lot during late teens and early 20s. I would never have dated my wife if we had met in the first half of our 20s. But I had to introspect what I truly want in my life partner, and was blessed that my wife also liked me the way I am when we met after we turned 25. It took me many years to sense how I feel about a person beyond looks, because in my early 20s I began to sense feeling overwhelmed or disconnected even when I talked to really pretty girls. That is why I feel every person should interact with the opposite gender to understand what is truly attractive in the other person. And everyone should make friends with opposite gender in school and college so that we can judge compatibility with a potential life partner in a smarter way with higher probability of success.
