That 40-45% increase in price might be distribution, isn't it better to provide bitcoin wallets to those fisherman and split the payment to distributor, fisherman and seller? Seller could build a simple platform that when ever you buy fish from them the payment goes directly to this entities splitting the profit

@@mkant I only have a bit of Bitcoin and ETH myself. But look up VeChain, i came close to invest a few dollar in the project a few years ago. It solves the distributor/logistic problem a product has from seller to buyer. in this case, the fisherman to the truck to the middleman to the store
@alistairdouglas608
@alistairdouglas608 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for thinking about this. Fishers in developing nations can sell fish for as little as 5c. The cost and time of sending bitcoin is prohibitive. We can provide this service for as little as one cent in a matter of seconds. The market will eventually work out what the value of the data is. The distributor can receive tokens from their buyers. Ultimately it is the retailer/restaurant that we want to pay for the data. We split commissions with app developers who build solutions for their local fishers and farmers. The trading on fish is not so simple for platform models. Quality is ill defined and changeable so unlike a computer chip (which is called a search good) fish are an experience good that need to be seen by the buyers at every stage.

You can easily input data into an app, but you cannot easily, quickly, and cost effectively transfer value (money, bitcoin) for the majority of the world's fishers. Ideally the accumulated tokens (those not redeemed for a product or service) will be able to be swapped for bitcoins, money in the future when the fixed costs are negligible to the quantity/value of tokens exchanged.

Never more relevant than now. Imagine a world where all fishers and farmers have ownership of the stocks they fish, the land they plough, and the platforms that track and trade the food they provide to us. Imagine if the daughter of a fisher or the son of a farmer building the supporting applications are also shareholders in these platforms. This will lead to more equitable and responsible food production and supply chains. A critical mission largely focussed on improving the lives and financial freedom of the small scale producers in developing nations that bring us the great bulk of the food we consume on this planet

@@thor.halsli We have a system that will allow the fishers and farmers, and the app developers, to become shareholders in the business of traceability splitting the commissions we make. We have to form legal entities to do that and we have to make sure the data producers are the owners of the data, and any monetization of the data has commissions that go to them. Governments need data for management and they need revenues (tax) to pay for policing. We are aggregate and anonymise data for management that can be used eventually to giver fishers ownership of the stocks of fish they rely on. We get the revenue from the supply chain actors in developed markets like the US (that imports 90% of its seafood mostly from developing nations) and that can provide tax revenues to governments.

There is no incentive for a seafood buyer to purchase data that is false and is on an immutable record. We can also triangulate the veracity of the data, set tolerances, and provide alerts. For example, a fisher with a one ton boat cannot catch two tons of fish. A farmer with ponds that we can check using google maps and assess volumes, means that we can predict what a normal distribution of production would look like.

We do not share any meta data unless the fisher, or distributor allows for it to be shared. We can control access and permissions as well as hide identities. It is important to do that because intermediaries do not want to be disintermediated but governments/retailers need to know the product is from a legal source. So permits can be shared, or governments of exporting nations give the seafood product a green tick for governments of importing nations. We also want to make the fishers and farmers shareholders in the business or traceability and eventually trading. Data can be communicated to government on an aggregated and anonymised basis for management of the stock, until the day it can be disintegrated in return for the fishers getting ownership.

@@Mr_Battlefield Thank you for pointing that out. IBM made a blockchain inspired "solution" for $100/month which 95%+ of the world's fishers or farmers cannot afford, cannot pay for even if they could afford it becuase they don't have a credit card! We asked the question, should they pay for a system to record data? We think the market that is demanding this data should price it and pay for it. Our solution is free to download, free for the fisherman and farmers, and can achieve blockchain traceability for $00.01c. We have set it up that way to minimise friction but the market will eventually work out what the value of the traceability data is (and that will be pegged to the value of the fish and the market it is going to). Then there are disincentives to subscription based models that strike at the heart of your comment - "are you a fisherman?" They deal with many challenges and we need to provide them and the buyers with a system that is pay per use when everything is working properly. It is a journey.
