Interesting commentary on the trade off between ‘liberty’ and ‘equality.’ Reminds me of a Milton Friedman quote, something about seeking equality before liberty and thus achieving neither.

The difference between the French revolution which probably shaped Tocqueville's views, the minions were purging feudalism and today, half of us are concerned about entering a period of neo feudalism and the other half don't care. I just don't see how we can avoid a confrontation of philosophies.

If corporate power is so overbearing, and late-stage capitalism so immoral and corrupt, then simply saying, "regulate less," and have more "liberty" is a bit of a joke.
