Kabhi Alvida na Kehna was also heavily criticised for exploring the concept of extra marital affair but as people are becoming more and more familiar with these aspects in real life. It is no longer a "bade logon ki problem" anymore. There would still be a class of people who would not accept these stories. But the majority is increasing for the people who not only watch these complex subjects but are also ready to understand and contemplate on how these concepts are portrayed in the story.

I guess so long as it's reinvented and freed from judgement (both have been discussed nicely here) it will always be interesting to see different takes on it. Judgement-free movies were there in the past too - like Ijazat and Arth - but not totally mainstream i guess.

No silsila was bad not because it has shown extra marital affair because it's abrupt ending where just because of plane crash and news of pregnancy, there is change of heart of Rekha and Amitabh character ..if they have shown how Rekha and Amitabh were left by their respective spouses with all other consequence where they have encounter dirty reality of relationship , then it would have been better
