I'm still friends with people from way back in 1998 playing Ultima Online together. some i have met in real life others i have not, some have died. The crafting looks good. The only thing I would add to the crafting would be mini recipes or partial recipes that make part of a whole recipe and can be interchangeable like on that sword. You could change out the handle, cross guard and the blade to something more to your liking.

I really hope that they implement a further specialization for crafters at max level. Its great that they're doing recipe XP, if done right it will give more places for people to create unique market advantages that will serve everyone and keep the game interesting. Having recipes have selectable perks you unlock once you've done them enough would go a long way towards the goal of creating enough depth to create a variety of potential market advantages that players can have, but once you're at max crating, a lot of those advantages won't mean much because a few months into the game, every max level smith will have nearly the same skill set. The recipe advantage also won't matter after a point because the most popular recipes will be universally maxed out, so in the longer run there need to be choices that preclude others. Having each crafting skill have a selection of a specialization at max level, which precludes other specializations would help differentiate max level crafters from each other which will be needed more and more as the server population ages. Imagine if one crafter's axes all came with 10% higher stats, while another's didn't, but were 30% less expensive because their perk lowered the amount of materials to craft them. The point of all of this is that you need enough diversity in the decisions people can make about their crafts, and what people can even do, in order to create a diverse enough market that it will work out long term. Ashes will need to really dissect their items and look at every knob that can be played with to create a diverse market, and I hope that they do so. I hope that they find a way to let crafters tweak everything from skins, to stats, to costs, and beyond, just not all options for every crafter all at once.

5:10 hopefully extra depth, after maxing out a recipe if you come back to it at higher ranks it adds to stats. Example; say min recipe of copper sword made when Journeyman is 10 damage, max recipe journeyman 15 damage. Then come back to it as Grandmaster and now its 20 damage.

coming from albion i think having spread recipe for early to end game is possible because the demand for early game weapon is still high even when people already reach "high level". this is possible because of the full loot system in albion and mastery system. full loot system means that the demand for replaceable gear is high, in this case is early game gear, and mastery system dan increase item stats based on mastery so people with lower gear can sometimes feel like they wear gear 2 tier higher. if s ashes dont have the demand for lower lvl gear than most of the gear there are just for progession and from my experience i dont think thats "good". io would say standard.

7:50 actually about Gathering and processing, neither actually are things you can do really by yourself for the main reason that if you're Gathering by yourself then you're easy pickings for a group of PKer's never mind if you decide to sell your gathered materials in a different town to sell them for a better price and as for processors, there's going to be a lot of resources you have to transport to and from your Freehold never mind the same exact issue for gatherers also applying where you also need to make sure when you go to sell your resources, you transport them to the node where they're going to sell for the highest level you can get while not being so far as to mean you lose money in a time you waste getting the materials there or the money you pay to a caravansary to actually do the transporting and selling for you
@TheCopiumClinic11 ай бұрын
Yeah everything is going to be so intertwined! Can’t wait!

Virtually no solo player will ever own a FreeHold. Guilds will pool resources and the officers will own almost all of them. (based upon expected 50,000 server population & 2500 FreeHolds) How will a solo player know which town they should sell resources to? The map is enormous and there is over a hundred nodes. They'll sell locally, guilds will buy and either resell, or use. Buy orders will likely be manipulated by the guild in power. Have members bring in goods, then make the orders to buy it from them. With a group of cooperating towns, there could be rampant price fixing. (Assuming it's worthwhile) That doesn't even touch on the fact a solo / small guild is unlikely to ever see the top end recipes or materials. AoC is Not a solo game, it's a game for the Elites. As populations drop, a higher percentage of players will progress, but who's likely to quit first? The solo / small guild players. Same monthly fee, for a fraction of the content. I hope I'm wrong.

See... this is weird. In the video it shows that the blacksmith is "mining", "smelting" and then forging the materials into a sword ("weaponsmithing") I thought the game dev designed that you can only pick one profession (gathering or refining or crafting) ? But then; what kind of weaponsmith who doesn't know how to mine the material / process it?
@TheCopiumClinic11 ай бұрын
lol I knew someone would catch this. This is in the future when Steven decides to have 3 grandmasteries. Jk I’d hate that.
@cripnikka8611 ай бұрын
If he decides to allow 3 grandmasteries; please make sure to have a specialization (this is just an idea) For example I choose to be a miner, smelter, and weaponsmithing. If I specialize in mining then I can find a really rare material in a rare ore node, but the smelting & weaponsmithing will be basic. If I choose to specialize in weaponsmithing, I can craft epic and legendary weaponry, but lacks in finding / refining the really rare materials to craft that legendary weapon. Another example / analogy is a Chef; Gordon Ramsay can cook a really delicious food; with great technique, etc. But I doubt he knows how to grow / harvest a high quality grapevine, process it into an excellent wine. But he knows how to use / cook the wine into a delightful cuisine. PS: Can't wait for the upcoming alpha test!

I think AoC is really pushing people to join groups and make friends. I think one of the ways is to make guilds less important and make people unite around nodes. I think guilds will end up being political factions vying for power within nodes.

Agreed. I bet discord servers will form specifically for certain nodes.
@kebrus11 ай бұрын
this is too much copium, first of all it's not the first time people attempt to do things like this, it's not like this is hard to come up with, what's hard is to make this balanced, meaningful and future proof. in terms of balance this has potential to make the economy completely messed up, when you have one material responsible for a stat it means the supply and demand for the material will be based on the stat and not on the level, you can try to alleviate this by adding multiple tiers of different materials for the same stat so as players progress they will want rarer materials because their bonuses are better, however this will not solve the fact that supply and demand will be tied to the stat, which means that when players figure out the best in slot stats some of them will be in higher demand than everything else, which not only will skew the economy to an handful of materials making everything else irrelevant but this also leads to the second issue: meaningful. what is the point of have a complex crafting system that allows variety when in the end players will simply want the best possible weapon or gear for their class? these materials shouldn't provide stats, they should provide some horizontal progression like different skills or utilities that people wont have a reason to go for one or another besides their personal preference, by having a vertical progression you not make older, less powerful materials irrelevant but you also don't provide anything meaningful to end game content. Finally, even if you do try as best as possible to make the materials availability fair for every player level and their use as meaningful as possible, these kinds of system do not grow well with the game, when the game finally starts adding more content it makes it more difficult for designers to branch out to new things because they are locked to past design decisions, imagine a designer wanting to introduce new gear and weapons and wanting to make something new to them, maybe tied to story or new gameplay mechanics but now they can't because things are supposed to be craftable and then either they stick with past decisions and add new materials tier for the new stuff which makes the new stuff boring or they go with new systems which are fresh and fun but make the old stuff irrelevant. all of this stuff is not new, it happens in all MMOs and every time a new game comes along people like to praise new ideas not understanding why so many game have faced issues with their systems before, players want to progress vertically but that goes against the game itself, companies don't mind the verticality because it easier to monetize and expand, this is how to get games like WOW, this game crafting is not new or revolutionary, it's same old same old oh, btw, instead of praising the automatic storage in bag for efficiency, ask yourself "why do these games needs bags with individual storage?" want to make it fun? make storage infinite, not grid based, sortable and easily searchable, so you can easily reach for the thing you got without worrying about space, weight, shape or any other meaningless "feature" that adds nothing to the game besides hassle, if you want to play with storage go play "backpack battles" it's a fun game.
