What a fantastic thing to know about. Drawing is a part of human skills and has been neglected. Please show videos of all different ages learning to draw. This helps all those who are afraid to try,, especially once they are no longer at school, or in retirement. I am so thrilled that all this is happening.

Jeanne Maze Thanks Jeanne. We're hoping to make more videos soon. We've made a note that you want to see all different ages involved.

Drawing is the foundation of all visual art forms. There is a situation of the lack of visual literacy today as a result of the passive stance taken by those who have images produced with no effort with the pressing of a button or key. They take a passive stance rather than a participatory stance with their surroundings and they rarely get a grasp of how to make tangible ideas with a pencil and paper ... I'm all for drawing it is what I teach and do. Getting students who never spent more than 5 minutes with a drawing medium in their hands is a challenge considering how easy it is for them to appropriate imagery from the internet and use photoshop as a tool that basically figures it all out for them.

How did you get into teaching drawing? I'm an avid drawer and want to also teach people the craft.

The interesting thing to me is that anyone who writes IS drawing. We draw the letters, and even use the same portion of the brain as if we were sketching a portrait. So drawing really is a part of us all.

@@petterjodinson7936 I have been teaching Fine art for 35 years. I got the jobs based on my portfolio. I got my foot in the door at one place for my printmaking skills which involve drawing to a great extent, from there it led to them wanting me to teach painting and drawing as well as Materials and Techniques, Artistic anatomy and Perspective. It helps to have an MFA, but that has little to do with skill based teaching which I focus on, many people get their MFA's based on conceptual stuff that does not require the ability to render or observe etc. Recently I started teaching younger people (ages 8-17) at a private art school because I see a crisis in the lack of basic skills in upper division schools, so they will be ready by the time they get into the visual arts if they decide that is the direction they are going. Either case learning how to visually think is good for everyone as the above video promotes.

I can't believe that the makers of this video didn't use drawings for the graphics. How to defeat your argument in one fell swoop. Having said that, the sentiments expressed by the participants were reasonably interesting. Meanwhile, can you see that iPad drawings are banned? They're gross.

Have to say I disagree about the Pad drawings. (I don't have any apple products for the record but I *am* a digital artist.) Most people don't carry a sketchpad around with them, but almost everyone has a smart phone these days which gives you access to some of the most flexible and accessible drawing tools available anywhere most of them free or costing less than £10. Its another tool in the armoury to get people drawing :)
@briza20225 жыл бұрын
But just because ancient people did a drawing is not a reason that justifies the importance. The importance happens when fits a need.
