no there job, devs job. EAC's only job is to detect a specific kind of background software cheat, which fixes most cheat methods. They do not offer services in the .Dll file injection categories which are exactly what most cheats you see in the videos are. Manual game bans are issued by developers. EAC provides a contract of what they do and its cheap. In fact its the cheapest anti cheat out there because they do so little. its like going to mc donalds and expecting to get a 5 course steak dinner

@@jestershyper you do not know what you are talking about lol, its a kernel level anticheat with the goal to prevent any client side manipulation of the game be it dll injection or direct memory access from physical/kernel, so for stuff like the db spamming shots etc they will first have to bypass the client side anticheat (eac) and then the serverside (which does not seem to be there at all which is probably why stupid shit like that works). there are not really many better options its just that eac or rust doesnt go as hard on cheaters as they should (temp banning etc)

I'll answer that for you Camomo: The reason they keep giving them the chance is because there is the chance that they will pay for a new copy of the game from a different steam account. There is the potential to make more money, and that always screws over the honest customers when they have no fear that it will affect their bottom line. If Rust players banned together and refused to play until the problem was resolved, the players would have all the power, but because they're addicted, corporations don't speak logic. They speak $$$.

EAC has incentive to cut costs on their systems because it means more profit. Players have to push both to work properly together, we are the only group that really loses.

its not just EAC's job. EAC is a company that gives a very simple solution to the majority of cheats. That does not mean there are other methods. EAC is a choice that developers choose to use because its cheap and works for the most part. Its not EAC's job to go above and beyond to provide the best anti cheat they are actually know for being mid asf but being affordable. The contract you take with EAC is very simple basically states what they do word for word. Rust made the choice to go into investment with EAC despite the shitty service because its cheap, in other words.....its NOT eac's fault, they are doing exactly what there contract says to do, its Facepunch. @@TheAtomoh

The problem is inherit to Unity game engine. The Unity engine trusts the client way too much, include things like animation and physics. The Source engine for example does not trust the client with physics or animations. But due to lag compensation it does share the random seed, which is why you have things like no-spread in Source engine.

12:00 I do a lot of software development, and used to (about 5 years ago) do game development, and from what I understand EAC is mostly heuristic based and generically checks for things that are "sus" like lots of repetitive network packets, strange changes in player position, etc. and VAC just straight up checks for hashes of known cheats, modifications to the Rust shared objects, etc. The problem with a heuristic approach is they usually give a certainty of cheating instead of a true false response like VAC does, they probably have a section where 10% chance gets you kicked (think about the regular flyhack violation kicks that Rust players get), 50% chance you get a 3-day temp-ban, and over a 99% chance you get banned outright (these numbers are made up). I'm assuming this is why EAC does the temp-bans is that there may be a very low chance of falsely banning someone based on their system processes, etc. Imagine if EAC outright banned you for a flyhack violation (which used to happen quite frequently to regular players). The cheat itself could even be messing with EAC causing what would normally be a ban to becoming a temp-ban. I have over 2000 hours of Rust, I've never got a temp-ban, or regular ban from either a server or EAC, despite even having some "sus" programs (in order of "sussness") like CheatEngine, AutoHotkey, pyproxy, Wireshark, VS+Unity, IDA, etc. I'm assuming EAC does the temp-bans as that there may be a very low chance of falsely banning someone based on their system processes, network performance, etc. Any of the listed tools used on Rust would award you an instant VAC ban as the tools mentioned do nothing (and aren't intended) to prevent detection since they are software development tools and not actual cheats. I'm surprised no aspiring technically literate server owners have gotten together to write a simple proxy tool that sits between the Rust server and Rust clients and monitors network traffic to detect and ban cheaters, I doubt it would be that hard, especially with the obvious ones like the removed fire rate limit, These are probably just simple cases of spamming the server with a "Player fire packet". I wouldn't mind making one myself but there's no way of effectively testing it.

On Facepunch owned servers there are no Admins at all. On occasion a paid Facepunch dev will join and ban cheaters but that is very very rare. I would stay away from any Facepunch server unless you enjoy 70% of the player base cheating

I cannot remember where I read it, on medium somewhere where a dev said that cheaters are a significant amount of on going sales; Like 10%+ of the last 3 games the dev worked on. With games like rust I imagine his higher. There is no financial incentive to ban them quickly.

It always comes down to the money. If cheaters get banned, they will lose their player base. Sadly, people will get tired of the cheating and stop playing altogether. If you are worried about cheaters then play PVE with no PVP servers. Usually zombies/bosses/raidable bases, etc. You get everything available on official servers but none of the toxic PVP. If there are cheaters they have no effect on you. You can build in comfort and peace, as stylish as you want, and learn and understand game mechanics at your own pace. Usually the last day of the wipe is a PVP session where everyone goes around and blows everything up, but you've had a good time prepping without conflict until then.

Hello Camomo. Appreciate for your video for keep any cheaters away from honest player. I have not played Rust yet but I want to suggest somethings for handling the cheaters. Instead ban them from the game, why don't you make them play with super hard limitation like my suggestion below 1. How about add a feature skin like Balloon text above their head that Says "Cheater". This one can only appear after Admin set it and it can be removed by admin or until when you set it (ex : you set it for 1 month/720 hours in game time). If this feature is set, the avatar can use any head gear but "cheater" sign will not gone. This might need optional accessory option that can be filled by admins and can not be accessed by players 2. This is 2 options due to it will be hard to test and complicated to test the feature a) How about make a feature that Every hit/shot they make using any weapon, The damage is always 1 or 0. This will make them hard to kill anyone even the naked. The turret might not need to be restricted with this feature b) How about make them can only use low melee weapon? If they want to use the range weapon like AK or Bow, the weapon will automatically drop to the ground. This one also include the trap like landmine 3. Make every farming they do like farming stone, wood, sulfur, etc, they only get 1 from it. This way will make them hard to catch up with other players Note : 1. These suggestions are for the cheaters that use cheat no fall damage or they know players position etc. 2. For the exploit issue cheater, I'll let you decide 3. Hopefully, if you set all 3 of those restriction to them, they will quit the game by themself. 4. I hope my suggestions can help you and the Rust community play honest

It will keep you on your ass for way too long if you really want to achieve something in the game, and the gunplay is definitely not great with the aim cone RNG becoming more and more inconsistent with each update, and the cheating has been getting worse.

At least we know people are looking at cheaters there, much more then what any other gaming company seems to be doing. 1 thing i've learned that no one has put there hand on yet. Cheat programs don't introduce there own Noclip, or Godmode or every game cheat would have noclip and godmode options (some however do not. For this reason, it's reliant on the ingame "Console Variable's" used by develepor's). Cheat's are a key + lock system, the program is the key, the game is the keyhole. So if dev's just "remove" any/all development code (noclip, godmode, projecticle speed console variables) in there game, what keyhole is there to abuse. The game can't execute commands that don't exist. The hack obfuscates and grants handshake/access to the game's development environment, which allows access without restriction. So the develepor's might have to forgo all these commands themselves for this to be effective, but that is the benefit of having a Test Client/World seperate from the main game (which they 'may' have or not, I don't know.) Some food for thought maybe? Edit: This of course would obviously hinder and strangle hold Admin's abit, but i'm sure some terms could be agreed to with all that

They need in a map update to build a new monument. A prison monument that players can vist but are controlled by admins and patrolled by scientists (re-skin as guards). With different levels of cell types for different levels of cheating. And to F1 kill to get out of prison = instant boot from server. And if the player rejoins it gets them sent to "the yard" to be later sent to a cell as needed.

I ran into a blatant cheater, clipped the interaction and F7'd him. Took 2 weeks for him to get banned. It took so long that I F7'd a scathing 'idea' and not a report. Literally any new survival game that comes out and has decent anticheat will kill rust because of how inept and slow they are to ban cheaters.

part of the reason for delaying (or sometimes even not issuing) game bans is it makes it harder for the cheat developers to know if their cheat is detectable by automated systems, if they system just automatically instantly banned cheaters the cheat devs could just spin up accounts and make changes till they didnt get banned

One of the reasons I can't bring myself back to this game is the inevitable feeling that all the work, time and skill that you put into is just useless if there's one of these dippies running around and undoing everything within seconds with their cheats. Ever considered to setup a plugin/mod shares a ban list in the cloud that everyone can link to? It can also pull data from Steam and scrape data, where each server can filter out people based off bans, account age, etc. So any one can download that mod/plugin for their server, which links to that global ban list + also add an additional list of their own personal bans. This affectively is a global ban list driven by people/private servers. If Steam/rust don't block then, do it yourself + all the other server hosts. +Oh forgot to add, you would need some appeal system in place and fields on bans, such as reason, date, etc. Since this can be abused and you would maybe need a rating system on who bans on a weight system.

Fun fact: me and my buddies quit another game we were playing as a team and i suggested to start rust i my self had around 500 hours since beta they start Fresh bought the game etc... So far we met a great deal of cheaters and they think we should quit this game because of cheaters since we get donwed single shoted - raided with the best path possible... Seen before we see them shot in dark and the worst of all been bullied by cheaters in chat and be toxic all. I am not sure if Rust does wave bans like other games. But I understand why it takes so long to Ban players. The creators wait 6 months or more so when a player gets banned immediately after they have been flagged, they almost know which cheats they were flagged for. Then they can go back and adjust that cheat so the next time they come on, they go undetected for a long period of time. Which is why you may see a cheater join a server, not do much and then leave the server. They are testing their cheats to see how quickly they get flagged. If you wait 6-8 months to ban someone, it gives them no information on which cheat got them banned.

TL;DR: firing guns is client sides, would have to rewrite the game to make it server side to stop the cheats. Like flying and the other stuff they can cheat. But can't cheat Health or Items cus that's server side not client side. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure if they're able to fire the gun faster then it's supposed to be able to that means the calculations and checks are happening client side and they're able to force it. I'm pretty sure they'd have to change their entire system to be completely server side, which would solve the problem of people getting non-registering hits because there wouldn't be client/server conflict but it would not only change the entire base code of the game but the entire server stack's code for how it would handle everything now that all those things are server side.

I gave up on multiplayer games. Literally every shooter has some form of cheaters or exploit abusers. Waste of time.

The cheating is exactly why I quit playing Rust also. I was even running a server at one point but the cheating got so bad I just gave up on it and shut it down.

I've only got 580 hours on Rust, and damn dude i uninstalled cause some dude beamed from 400+ meters through the thickest forest downing me and my teammate in 5 bullets. Reported a dude who was BLATANTLY spinbotting and he stayed on the server for 4 hours, i kept checking back into the server every 30 minutes to hour and he was still in it killing everyone, Why is Every game filled with hackers nowadays not even just Rust, Love that you fuck with them though, gets me a better laugh at the end of the day

I am on Rust Empire, and they get a huge amount of cheaters there. The admins does bare minimum and allow them to play. This enabling needs to stop for server owners

I only wish there were many more admins just like you that's willing to take action immediately especially at the most obvious sights of cheating, your right and action must be taken.

Why would they fix it. Every time a cheater brings a new account onto rust it drives player count numbers up and they also make money every time one buys another copy of the game.

Fully agree game bans should happen quicker especially when you have proof of the cheating. doing all the hard work and nothing being done about it, frustrates those doing the leg work.

Trust me, man, it def isn't just rust. It's RAMPANT! Hell I remember the very first time I played a madden on line I think in the mid 90's or so. The guy used 1 play and 1 player and he obliterated me and I played about as much, if not more, than a pro but never on line. Jump to 2020 and I built my first rig ever motivated by GTA 5 RP. TONS of people were cheating in RP, too. Then I got Dead By Daylight a while after--cheaters galore. I gave up competing on line in any aspect forever. Every game has LOTS of cheats. I was unbeatable against anyone I met in Tecmo Superbowl for Nintendo. I obliterated people that were very good at the game. I played it for more than 8 hrs/day for about a yr probably. I played my friend who was great at it and made him quit. Then I saw there was now the ability to play others on line. I never will. I'll just never play again unless I get an emulator or it's face to face.

facepunch and most of these turd studios will, behind closed doors, subscribe to the idea that cheaters buying new account keys is a good thing because they're still selling copies of the game. its not complicated to hardware ban a machine. Sure you can get around it but only the most dedicated cheaters will go that far.

A mite late, but here's EXACTLY why EAC and moreover Facepunch don't care about banning cheaters quickly: They're paying customers. The less cheaters they ban, the more money they get.

EAC's lack of results dealing with cheaters in an acceptable manner or acceptable time frame loses revenue for the game because people don't like pouring their money down the drain or into a cheaters hands. They need to step up their game when admins catch the cheaters quickly because it also makes them look really bad. Have a great night.

You should Interview PirateSoftware who has a lot of the behind the scenes at Blizzard for how they caught cheaters, found exploits, etc. He has 1,000,000 subscribers on youtube, twitch streamer also.

Love your contact Camomo. The developers allow cheaters back to the game even if they are game band because they need the player count for their game. A better solution for these cheaters if allowing them in there own private services so they can continue to cheat with other cheaters. Or offer private servers where non cheaters don't have to play with cheaters.
