Having lived in Dallas and San Antonio, I found that Dallas was about 10 degrees hotter in the summer and 10 degrees+ colder in the winter. In Houston they ask you where you work; in Dallas they ask you where you live, in Austin they ask you where you're from, in San Antonio they ask you what high school you went to..."Do you know so-and-so? Well, my sister dated their cousin." The city identifies with its high schools.

Traffic on the west side is nuts and probably as bad as north Dallas. In live 9 miles from work. Many days it takes me more than 30 minutes to get home and I am going against traffic. Dallas was slightly better not going against traffic. Phoenix, better yet.

The city has outgrown itself. The city was built to hold between 500 and 800 thousand people. It currently sits just shy of 2.5M people. Almost 3 times what the population should be. The city and state have tried to expand to keep up but they're decades behind in progress. San Antonio has tried too hard to be the next Miami or Los Angeles that it's lost its "big city with a small town" feel it once had.
@LifeinSATX6 ай бұрын
I disagree wholeheartedly. I’ve been here my entire life and have never once felt the development or progress they have been making is to make SA like either of those places. Even a lot of the people who move here from out of state still say how much it feels like a much smaller city than it is.

Property taxes for me are more or less a wash for what I'd be paying in California for state income. The problem with property tax though; it doesn't care if you are working. Take a year off, try starting a business, or retire.. That tax bill is still coming every year.

It has been an adjustment to be sure but I will say it was nice not having to worry about snow and wearing shorts all year. If you have a home in SATX that needs maintenance or major repairs you are screwed in San Antonio. Contractors don’t want anything but quick and easy money. If your project is major expect to pay 5x more what you’d pay on an easy job. If you get a quote get multiples from different contractors. When my water softener STB I got quotes as high as $11K and paid $2800 for the exact same unit through another contractor. Many contractors are SNAKES. BEWARE.
@LifeinSATX4 ай бұрын
Sorry you had to deal with that man but that is not the case across the board. I’ve got plenty of good contractor contacts that are great guys and reasonably priced. My plumber will do a full, brand new water softener for $1800. Some of those name brands will definitely charge a major premium but that’s why you get multiple bids.
@Dirk-my2zf4 ай бұрын
@@LifeinSATX I had to get a rather large softener as the home is 5500 sq ft of living space with 6 bathrooms (4 full with tub/showers). When you live in a large/relatively expensive home you are a target for contractors. I got the softener without the contractor seeing the house first, just the square footage and number of bathrooms…otherwise $2800 would not have happened. Pricing is based on perception of how much money the contractor thinks you might have. I hope to sell my place in the spring and go some where not so riddled with deceit and corruption. Also, CPS and SAWS charged me extra during Covid to cover other households utilities that could not afford to pay. What kind of communist BS is that?! Over this hell scape.

I was so excited for “mexican” food and honestly the food was a huge disappointment to me. I come from Virginia Beach,Virginia and our Mexican scene blows it away. It also is just way to massive of a city for me .The positve things to me where the shopping is freaking great and you seem to be able to get housing for a decent deal price.

I moved to San Antonio about two years ago from Denver...I bought a new build for under $250K and I was super pumped haha. SA has a lot of good things going for it-primarily the people-they are the nicest I've encountered in a big city in the U.S....people say "have a blessed day" and randomly say good morning or good day and are really chatty and courteous. It's actually almost makes you feel like they want something from you lol but they are just nice like that. Traffic is easy to deal with in most parts of the city, the hike and bike trail system (which includes the RiverWalk) are pretty impressive, too. There are a few good museums and great food. The only negative I've found thus far is that it is so spread out, and if you are a single person trying to socialize and meet other professional, single people-it's hard to find them. I find myself going often to Austin or Houston to mingle and network with that demographic....otherwise, San Antonio is perfect if you have a family or are retired!

Native Texan, culturally great place, this was part of Mexico until colonizers took it away. So, it's nice to see diversity. Lots of unhappy people in Tx, too hot in summer, can reach 110 plus humidity, can't go outside sun is intense. If your rich and have a second home to escape to during summer your lucky. Crime here, lots of shootings and robbery unless you live in gated community, and traffic is insane drivers, and road rage. The quality of life is not great for single people, if you have kids good luck finding schools that are not over crowded, unless your rich and can afford private school, politcally don't care about much, but billionaires run TX so it's there agenda you support, lots of deregulation of gas, energy companies, good luck with electricity, they still haven't fixed since the last deadly freeze and unexpected snow storm, and during summer heat too many people and big data warehouses drain electric grid. Lastly, no healthy restaurant options, all fast foods, strip center malls are ruining the city, and overcrowding is becoming a problem.
