Melbourne was named "The World's Most Liveable City" in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 & 2017, and was second behind Vienna in 2018 & 2019 too. It is a brilliant place to live.

We are trying. The State Government is subsidising solar panel and battery installation for home owners but the transition in difficult because our energy needs are always increasing due to our population increase of around 1.7% annually. We haven’t had a recession in 30 years so our economy just keeps on growing and Melbourne will soon overtake Sydney as the most populated city in Australia. Melbourne has over 1,000 suburbs and growing but once you leave the CBD (central business district) and travel around the suburbs you experience a disconnect from the CBD and just enjoy the quiet leafy neighbourhoods and community spirit.

Decent public transport, parks and an attractive city scape, but it has few jobs and expensive housing - like everywhere in Australia. It is probably the best of a bad bunch.

Sure, safe, health, high education, work life balance, clean air, less crowded, etc. are all boring.

@@k.vn.k Since interesting is not included in the liveability list, boring is inevitable. How liveable is a place that's boring? This liveability list leaves a lot to be desired in a place to live, and should be questioned. Not everyone has the same set of values. This liveability list thinks everyone is a conservative, introverted breeder, or wants to be.

@@k.vn.k OK. But using a term like liveable implies a virtue, and denigrates less liveable places, even though those other places might have attributes that the makers of the list don't care about. That reduces or removes it's credibility as a measure. You can't be credible and be the Cheshire Cat who wants to define liveability by their own rules. For me, liveable can't be without Interesting. It's not negotiable.

Are liveable cities necessarily boring.. Melbourne has numerous big sporting / cultural events along with smaller festivals and events all the time.. the city has great shopping and dinning, many parks and gardens, numerous museums and galleries, heaps of life music and there are clubs that are open 24/ 7.
