Disney focusing on sequels & live action remakes over originals is when they entirely lost their magic!
@SeasideDetective23 күн бұрын
They've had that flaw since the 1990s, when the live-action 101 DALMATIANS was a huge hit. That was the "franchise original sin," and in a number of ways the beginning of the end. But even before then, Disney had creativity problems. Their styles and gimmicks were pretty formulaic almost from the beginning, and as early as the '50s they were already recycling their animation techniques instead of trying to make each cartoon look unique (if you compare CINDERELLA, THE SWORD AND THE STONE, and the 1957 cartoon "The Truth About Mother Goose," you'll see some blatant overlap). The truth is, a lot of the content from the past is not quite as good as we remember it, and it's considered "classic" both because of the nostalgia effect and because much of what comes after it is even worse.

@@splat-trainproductions Say what? Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly place, That's so Raven and so on were so much better than most of the cartoons. Also it was the reason why Disney channel even became popular in the first place. Same thing with Nickelodeon.
@splat-trainproductions7 күн бұрын
@@Simbala-bq5vy 1.) I was mainly referring to It’s A Laugh Productions sitcoms that were actually made by Disney, That’s So Raven wasn’t made by It’s A Laugh Productions, so it doesn’t count. 2.) The reason why the Nickelodeon sitcoms (Specifically All That!, The Amanda Show, Drake and Josh, and the first few seasons of iCarly) were good was because they had good writing and were the most part grounded in realism. You don’t see any of them having things like magic, super powers, or any other supernatural abilities that would require digital effects that make you question why is it even a sitcom if the live audience can’t even see the digital effects in front of their eyes on the set-Oh wait, that’s right: The audience that we hear on these Disney sitcoms are not even real. Are you starting to see the problem? Not to mention, I don’t think a lot of people look back at the Nick sitcoms with fond memories due to Dan Schneider being a creep. 3.) Just because it’s popular, doesn’t mean it’s good. Frozen is a big example of this, along with Skibidi Toilet, Among Us, Lunchly, and any meme used by SMG4 or any dated things like clothes, movies, shows, and food ideas that aged like sour milk and rotten eggs. 4.) Yes, not all of the Saturday morning cartoons were good(I still shudder when I think of Pickle and Peanut.), but I can think of more good cartoons than good It’s A Laugh Productions sitcoms: DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers, Tailspin, Timon & Pumba, Gravity Falls, Wander Over Yonder, Star Vs The Forces of Evil, Phineas and Ferb, both 101 Dalmatians shows, etc. The only good It’s A Laugh Productions show that I like is Zach & Cody. That’s it. Sorry I’m not a Wizard’s of Waverly Place guy. 5.) The Walt Disney company was well known for its cartoon movies and short cartoons more than any of their live action movies prior to the 21st century, so why is Disney Channel more well known for its live action sitcoms than any of their animated shows? 6.) Hannah Montana. Hannah liver fluking Top 10 Radio Disney completely dated product of the time Montana. I don’t even know why people even defend this show. This was the one that ruined the whole Walt Disney company in my eyes. This along with the shows that came after all use the same story about a normal family, “but they have a secret!” trope. Hannah Montana is also a bad influence. Don’t believe me? Look what happened to Miley Cyrus after Hannah Montana.
@Simbala-bq5vy7 күн бұрын
@@splat-trainproductions You're so dead wrong. The sitcoms were the reason why disney channel even was popular. The Disney channel sitcoms felt more real because of they're characters. Mileys struggling because of her double life as Hannah Montana felt real and we could feel how much she's struggling. Alex Russo and Chad Dylan cooper are like one of the best characters because they both started as jerks but later on developed and became slit more nicer. And what do you mean me Nickelodeon has the better writing? Victorious had a awful writing, the characters weren't deep or were one dimensional. iCarly? Seddie was a mess and is one of the worst ships of all time. This whole love triangle on iCarly was a damn mess. Zoey 101? Zoey brooks is like one of the worst main characters in all of disnick. And no the humour was funny. That's so Raven is so hilarious, so was Wizards of Waverly place, Good luck Charlie, Suite life of Zack and Cody, Jessie and so on. Also you didn't even mentioned It's a laugh production so blame yourself. And yes a double life as a rockstar and a family full of wizards and seeing through is unrealistic so? Talking animals, fairytale creatures, singing out of nowhere, indestructible beings, huge monsters are also unrealistic. But what isn't unrealistic is the dynamic. Good luck Charlie has like the best family dynamic out of every disnick sitcom. What was the family dynamic in Nickelodeon? Drake and Josh's parents always blaming the boys and always protecting Megan? Carlys dad never being there, Freddie's mother being a control freak and embarrassing and Sams mother being straight up abusive? And Tori and Tina's parents that give a fuck about they're daughters and her mother cheating on her husband is better and more realistic? And the love stories? Forget it! Disney channel has Sonny and Chad, Alex and Mason, Miley and Jesse, Lilly and Oliver, PJ and Skylar, Justin and Juliet. The only Nickelodeon ship that is well written is Creddie with Carly and Freddie. The rest? Seddie was abusive, Bade was toxic, Cabbie was boring. Josh and Mindy was fine. And what do you mean dated? The Hannah Montana Songs are still going strong on KZbin Shorts and tiktok. And Hannah Montana was popular for a reason. First of all because of Miley Cyrus. Second of all because the concept was unique. A girl living a double life as a Rockstar was unique. Third of all, the songs! You're take is bullshit Disney never went downhill because of the sitcoms, in fact they got more and more popular. Also that's a you problem if you don't like them cause saying that Disney is dying because of the sitcoms, is such a damn lie! You wrote so much, yesterday you said less.
@Simbala-bq5vy7 күн бұрын
@@splat-trainproductions Oh and they got popular because of they're cast. Like is that hard to understand? Shows like Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly place and so on got popular because of theyre Main Star. Without These Shows, None of these people would ever Had a music career. Also without These Sitcoms Nickelodeon would have never started with that Trend and both Disney Channel and Nickelodeon would have shutdown way earlier. Babamm!
@splat-trainproductions7 күн бұрын
@@Simbala-bq5vyDude, I wasn’t even trying to “ba-bam” you, I was just expressing my opinion, and opinions should be respected. I just never liked the sitcoms as a child, an adult, or even at the age of the target demographic: the tweens. I just always preferred the cartoons. And I don’t care if something is popular, yes it’s important to be popular, but that shouldn’t be taken for granted to the point where only one group of people can enjoy it until they see the next big thing, as like fashion outfits, fads will fade over time. So if you want to last, you should focus on making good quality content so that it can last for a long time. Quality over quantity.

It's strange to me that Disney is the studio being scapegoated, when they are far from the original or the worst offender. I trace the beginnings of "modern Hollywood" to 1976, when Paramount Pictures remade KING KONG for no good reason - and, in today's vernacular, also "updated it for modern audiences." That was nearly half a century ago, which means that close to two whole generations have grown up in an entertainment world that is overloaded on nostalgia. Of course Disney would eventually succumb to the trend.

Honestly, I don't blame the entire Disney studio for losing their touch (magic), but I do blame the bad writing/directoring, and cash grabbers, which would explain a lot for live action remakes, and it's not just for Disney, even live action versions of our beloved tv shows from our childhood that actually makes things worse, not to mention this is also why some people *wished* that Disney's Wish never existed like all those other bad Disney movies and sequels.

The last really good non-Marvel Disney project I can remember was THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG, and that was 15 years ago. By analogy, then, we're currently in the year 1982 - a decade and a half removed from THE JUNGLE BOOK - and the next THE LITTLE MERMAID is still the better part of a decade off. Back in the real 1982, of course, the biggest project Disney were getting ready to launch was their cable channel, so it makes sense they'd be investing in home entertainment instead of mass entertainment at this point. But lightning won't strike twice. People are bored with television now.

I agree that D+ is a major factor in Disney's decline, especially as it relates to a chase for subscribers that they cannot win. I think the next biggest issue they have is direction. They generally don't seem to want to craft stories for families, or even the longtime fans of what Disney has done before, be it traditional Disney fare, or fans of StarWars (or any of Lucasfilm's IP) or Marvel. Oddly, the only thing under the Disney umbrella that doesn't seem to have as much of a problem as the others is FOX movies; Alien Romulus was solid, and Predator Prey was a little better than "ok". They want to drive politics and ideologies - the latter of which do not usually work with traditional family values. Until very recently when they have claimed they're going to move away from those things. I'll believe it when I see it more than a few times. I won't trust them until they prove they've changed.
