Thank you Tim for your advice! For a beginning artist, as you have said, it would be great to improve ones craft to make them marketable. In your experience & opinion does the type of media (like oil vs. watercolor vs. acrylic etc) play a major role whether an artist will be more successful in selling his artwork? And does the size of the work also affect its selling potential?

Watercolour is a great medium for learning because you can burn through a lot of paper... painting a ton of paintings without incurring a huge cost. The downside is that all watercolours need to be framed and that can be expensive. Also clients don’t like having glass over the work. And big pieces weigh a lot when framed. Oils are probably the most appreciated by the public. If you paint on wide gallery style canvas you can just paint the edges black and you don’t need to frame them. And big paintings are still very light. As for painting big... once you have reached a certain level of competence painting very large canvasses can be a smart move. First of all you separate yourselves from the hobbyists who lack the confidence to invest in a big canvas... so you have much less competition. Also people looking for very large paintings have very large walls... therefore very large homes and usually larger budgets. And you don’t need as many sales to generate more income. Hope that helps😊👍

How do I sell my work if it slowly destroys me….feels akin to selling my children!?

You have to decide what you want out of art. Maybe you don't want to sell your art. But then you will need to do something else to pay the bills.👍
