Disclaimer: Always visit an Avian vet once you discover that your bird is plucking. You must rule out all medical related issues before making the assumption that this is purely a behavioral issue. I'll dig deeper into this in Part II.

I rescued a african grey last year who was locked in a cage for 5 years his 6 now , his whole chest and legs have no feathers and is anxious of people so always plucks , I don't no how he was treated apart from never being out the cage for 5 years and due to this can't hardly fly. He prefers men over women and even tho I've had him a year he still don't 100% trust me but hopefully in time will get there we just co exist for now haha.

Why do African Grey parrots shake their head more often than other parrots do?

Hmm I haven't noticed that they shake their head more often than other species. Interesting observation.

@@Africangreyjournal I have definitely observed this in older, usually plucking, greys. I have mostly seen them after being surrendered. It could be a stereotypical behavior.

i think they shake there heads due to high frequency's my grey does it a lot when i play music or am playing a game its a sign of them not liking the pitch of sounds
