Why is my skimmer lid blowing off?

This is the first year I used the same sand from last year. I usually put new sand every year. But got lazy and now my skimmer is blowing up when I turn off pump. I did a backwash several times to clear out any dirt. But skimmer is still blowing up. Could I have a leak and there is air being sucked into the unit. Please let me know what you think. Thank you.

The most common cause is air building up in the system. You'd have to find the source of the air leak and fix it. This could mean replacing a pump lid o-ring, diverter valve o-rings, or any other source of an air leak. After they repaired my pool pump Pentium I walked by the pump and it's blowing air

What do you mean by blowing air? Is the air coming out of the returns in the form of bubbles? Or is there a hissing noise?

We mention dirty filters, closed valves, and air leaks being the issue. So cleaning the filters, making sure the valves on the return side are open, and correcting air leaks would be a good way to fix the issue.
