You got it Gerald. I’ll even go further. Neel represents what the Star Wars fandom once was. We all can relate to neel because we were once like him.

Agreed, we were once simplistic children who saw Star Wars as pure and innocent.

I think another thing appealing about Neel's character is how he represents the hope theme of Star Wars. The last episode he came to that realization that the world is not the peaceful utopia he thought it was but he immediately switched to 'but maybe it could be that way if we tried'.

Why am I picturing Neel wrapping presents with toys and bringing them to charity while wearing a Santa hat and then volunteering to feed the needy the thought of that is so precious

Neel is slowly seeing the realities of the wider universe. However, with the loss of innocence, came the bravery to stand up for things that are right and good. First offering food to children and later throwing a stone at MS-33 when his friends were in danger. Star Wars needs some characters like Neel. This series is a vast improvement from the Acolyte.
@STARWARS_FANATIC19 күн бұрын
I agree 100%. I really tried to like the Acolyte. I was so excited for it. I'm glad some people enjoyed it, but it just wasn't for me. And that's okay, not everything is for everyone.
@Imhotep39719 күн бұрын
@@JohnBrandt-yh2qj The Acolyte, in the end will probably have been a better story than this, as a story of betrayal. Every story can’t always be rainbows and unicorns. The failings of the Jedi are open to be explored in story because George Lucas created them to have/develop blindspots to their unexplored flaws. Sol could have used a non-lethal force push to create space between himself and Mother Anaseya, but he didn’t because he was a Knight with a sword and an objective to steal her child that would raise his own status in the order, which she did. Once Sol had what he wanted even when May was in the temple he never campaigned for her reinstatement because he knew he’d betrayed her and everything the order stood for. However, it was all conveniently swept under the carpet.

Neel is too precious for this Galaxy, he needs to be protected at all costs! Just a bit of a chat with the leader's daughter and he already made a difference in her world view for the better, and the experience so far has also impacted his innocence. Nontheless, I think he could be a great diplomat like those Jedi that wasnt force sensitive enough to be knighted but had a conection to the light enough to be a conduite for peace as councelors

Banger of a video brother. I'm really loving this show guys. My niece never watched star wars before and she's really into skeleton crew and is totally crushing on neel lol. Skeleton Crew has been a solid watch so far. It's fun and humorous. It feels so much like Star wars but is definitely it's own thing. I've re watched every episode about 5 times.

Fandom would give in to hate and fall to the dark side of the Force to the last one of them if it ended up like this, but to me it would be perfect if this series were, in the end, all a bedtime story (or a few, in episodes) that Wim's dad is telling him to put him to sleep...

Neil is innocent kid but more in the lines of a sheltered kid Who's been forced outside of his bubble into the universe I don't think the lost of innocence is a bad thing does it have to be extreme like it is on the show I think not but a kids has to grow up
@Imhotep39719 күн бұрын
Interesting take, but developing a friendship with a violent At Achrann child soldier and standing up to a rogue SM-33 indicates the character is overcoming self-limiting beliefs, rather than continuing to be fearful, which is what these kinds of “coming of age” are always about.
@STARWARS_FANATIC19 күн бұрын
Yes, and I explained how that coming of age is tragic for a character like Neel. Thank you
@Imhotep39719 күн бұрын
@ Ok, and I see your point to an extent, but Star Wars has always largely been about defending for a cause, finding balance in the middle of hardship and relying on friends. These are the lessons Neel is learning and growing through. It’s pretty hard to label them tragic from the Star Wars story perspective.

Hey! It's been a while! To start, I do like Skeleton Crew, It's just a colossal mess. I can not stand Neel and not because he's unlikeable. The problem is his writers. They write everyone in the same cliché box as usual and no one acts like you would actually expect. I cringe every time they bring up Jedi. These kids would have literally NO idea what a Jedi is. Their home planet has been hidden away from the rest of the Galaxy for generations. Even the people on At Achrann don't have a clue about anything outside of their world and yet they AREN'T hidden behind some magic barrier. To say "but they obviously have access to books and media".. from who? The Republic? They have been isolated from the outside Galaxy. They aren't in contact with the Republic. They have no idea the Empire existed or fell. They have no idea there is a New Republic even though they behave frightfully similar. Meaning both governments reflect the writer room political ideology. Full of never ending IT specialists and analysts, Comrade. And the head comptroller is sketch because authority = bad. Amirite? I'm never going to let that go. Ever haha Neel is also a reflection of the writer room. If his behavior was a species trait, it would make sense. But he has constantly talked about fighting with his sibling. And losing because why not. Neel is being groomed early on a path to cuckdom. As shown by "the kiss". It would make sense of these kids came from a vehemently pacifistic society. But they don't. They come from a world were compliance and conformity are the rule. They are literally wanted criminals back home and should know this. But they don't. Why? Because the writers aren't really thinking too hard about it. Jude Law should amaze and terrify the fuck out of them with his Jedi abilities. But we know what Jedi are, the writers know what Jedi are, the suits know what Jedi are, so the kids know what Jedi are. It's lame and bad writing. The one thing in the Galaxy that is a mystery to EVERONE in that Galaxy, is common knowledge to kids never raised in that same Galaxy smh The droid is fun though. Neel exists to represent someone on a certain spectrum. Stereotypical of Hollywood. Socially awkward and weak. Good at analytics to the point that he dreams of being one. Not even a drip of Star Wars here AT ALL. Again this isn't a Galaxy Far far Away... this is Google Daycare... A Star Wars Story.... TM.
@abeautifuldayful19 күн бұрын
Nah, I call BS on most of that. For starters, all of the At planets were not unknown to everyone in the rest of the galaxy all through the long past, which means those who knew them likely visited and shared tales about Jedi, etc., and possibly exchanged true or false ideas such as there being treasure, too. How else would Jod get that idea and the correct name of one of them toward the beginning of this series? And that is an old starship with a droid who might still explain more about how connected these planets used to be to the galaxy at one time, assuming Jod or someone replugs his battery and reboots him back to prior programming. So then, please don't ever write for Star Wars if keeping that long list of BS.
@STARWARS_FANATIC19 күн бұрын
I'd also like to point out that the people of At Attin have a romanticized view of the Jedi due to the period they cut themselves off from the galaxy, during the Old Republic. The Jedi were still good, nothing to be feared by average citizens. They even likely had holos of great Jedi deeds. So, a Jedi wouldn't be scary to them, because they still saw them as 10,000 strong and not wiped out by Palpatine and Vader. They didn't even know those two existed.
@davish786419 күн бұрын
No, he’s just a cash grab character.

That describes just about half of every Star Wars character created. There's a reason George Lucas held the merchandising rights for so long.
