I have moved from Takomo 101s to Dynapower Forged and the feeling is phenomenal. The 101s were great irons but the forged feeling on the Wilson's is just another level up and happy to say I got six irons for under £600 which was fantastic value. I have also purchased the wedges as well which are also forged and have such a good feeling. Wilson are so good.

Wilson is a very under rated golf brand. Back in the day they where the clubs to have. The other brands are so much in your face with their marketing that we as the general public miss out on many great other brands. Think the package sets of the past have given Wilson a bad rep. 2 brands that are massively underrated are Wilson and Cobra. I used the Wilson FG Tour irons over10 years ago and they were awesome. I still use the old FG Tour ball which is a great ball and at the time cost me £1 a ball. Their issue is that they don't retain value so i would never buy new. i have wilson MB 9-7 and 6 to 4 in CB. On the face they have the same milled design as the Tiger p7TW which are a 2k set of golf clubs. They take a while to get use too coming from titleist 620 mb's but once dialed in are just as good. Feel wise is in comparison to a vokey wedge, not the softest blades in the world but they perform very well. Wilson also claim the small cavity in both irons are to enable not missing to the left with an over hook. i would just advise getting getting full CB's as I would say they spin moore than any other balde when i tired them against my old 620mb's. i would say though the wilsons for blade standard are not as forgiving as the 620mb but perform better when struck properly

I upgraded my Wilson 2021 CB irons to the new 2024 combo set of CB and blades and to be honest I find them exceptionally forgiving! I would much rather hit a bad shot with a blade than a game improvement as it won't go as far and into more trouble. Wilson is sadly forgotten about by a lot of golfers as they don't seem to be rated but it's their loss. It should be mandatory to try a set of the most decorated golf brand as if people did, they would not regret it. There are no bad reviews on any of the clubs they have, none! Even the golfs balls are as good as the more expensive brands!

Good review, James! Why are people not buying blades and CB's? Maybe because many reviewers keep saying how scary-looking they are, and how hard they are to hit, and that they are really only for low handicap or scratch golfers. They are no harder to hit than so-called "game-improvement" clubs, but they are more precise, and they will teach you to be a better ball-striker. I play a set of Staff Model blades, 3-PW, and I love 'em! Also have a couple of the forged Staff Model wedges, 50 deg and 56 deg Hi Toe, which are as good as anything out there - please do a review on them, as I'd like to hear your opinion.

Wilson champions were from many years ago. Maybe that's why Wilson are not shouting about that. On the other hand, I've played the Launch Pad 2 Graphite irons for the last three years. I think Wilson's problem here is they are in between the premium brands and the budget ones in terms of price, so appeal to a far more niche market. Those with the money to spend more likely to go for titleists, taylormades etc, while those looking for budget will be swept up by the takomo, caley hype, who have done a great job marketing this year
@michaelwelch203Ай бұрын
Wilson’s problem is marketing. In tennis their Pro Staff rackets are top of the line. Staff rackets are sold in discount stores. Wilson reversed this in golf. Pro Staff clubs are sold at Target and the much better Staff clubs were to be sold at the pro level. As a retailer, why would you carry Wilson Staff clubs when you can get Pro Staff at Target? Their marketing team screwed this royally.

As an average golfer: the Dynapower forged are easier to hit, launch higher, are more forgiving, cost less, have power holes and tungsten weighting and are forged so feel exactly the same as the Staff Model. When you can brag about how thin your club's top line is I'll just hold up the scorecard and show you my lower score.
@cameronloveless1751Ай бұрын
Yeah but for hi speed players they just go too far, with their slightly jacked lofts. Then you end up with 15+ yard gapping and need 5 wedges in the bag. This is where the CB’s are possibly a good choice for those who swing fast but don’t hit the middle all the time

At the end of the video I realized just how old-school traditional these irons are. I started playing at 55 years of age (78 now) - too old for other sports like cricket, squash and badminton. I think it would be really interesting to try these clubs because they look like the irons the players I admired when I started were playing. Unfortunately age has played a major part in my choice of clubs now I need all the help I can get.

I bought a full set 3 - PW stiff steel shaft of the previous version of these blades (the nicer looking ones with WS on the logo) for £599 on sale in March 2024. I’d struggled a bit with my custom fit Mizuno JPX 921 forged standard flex graphite irons and wanted to try to improve my ball striking. The idea was that I’d get better feedback with the blades but worried I’d be able to hit them at all. I needn’t have worried. All the feedback in the world and hit them pretty well right away. Now hitting them much better than I can hit the Mizunos to the point that I can hit the Wilson 3 iron and struggle with the Mizuno 4 iron. I absolutely love these irons. 🙂❤

I bought the Caley 01T irons and they are the best irons I’ve ever used bar none. I have used nearly every brand of iron over the years. These things are a 10+\10. Since I got the copper ones, they cost a grand total of $600. As for Wilson, they don’t seem to know how to market. I’m sure they are good irons, but the forged ones are $1200+ for a set. So not only do they not know how to market, but they also are twice as much as DTC stuff. I mean if you want a pure DTC blade, go see what Toura Golf is doing. They have some fantastic forgings for a great price. After using the Caley irons, I just don’t see the reason to spend $1200+ on a set of irons. It just makes no sense.

I may be wrong but I think Wilson was the first to produce a set of progressive cavity irons back in the 90s. I used to play tennis a lot and I used Wilson midsize tennis racket and it seemed to give the closest feel to timber racket. So when I saw the progressive cavity set of irons, I didn't hesitate to get them. It cost a lot to me at the time. If I remember correctly, it was just under £600 back in the 90s. And I got my handicap down to 12 from 18 within a few months. Progressive means as the irons get shorter, they have bigger cavity. The control and feel was just great. I didn't hit the ball long so the feel they offered help my short game a lot. Wilson is not a famous golf name. But I do recommend giving it a try.
@nickynuts80132 күн бұрын
Actually, progressive irons refer to the amount of offset of the clubface in relation to the centerline of the hosel. It is a game improvement technology that helps in closing the clubface at impact on longer shafted irons. The offset reduces progressively through the set of irons to near "0" offset in the shorter shafted irons like the wedges.
@AlexoferithКүн бұрын
@@nickynuts8013 I am not saying that you are wrong or I am right. Sounds like there was/is no industry standard to the words "progressive" irons. My set of Wilson Staff is definitely a set of "progressive" irons due to the "amount" of cavity was made into the irons.

@davevecht720Ай бұрын
I got a set of FG V6 back when everyone was raving about them. To me, they were ok. TBH, I think the AMT shafts didn't work for me. These days, I feel that forged blades (MB or CB) comes down to aesthetics. There's only so much you can do to a couple hundred grams of steel at the end of a stick. Sure, you can play with leading edge relief, mass distribution, head shape, offset, etc. But there really don't stray that far from a basic formula. So if you want blades and can play blades, pick the ones you find most appealing because you probably have the skill to adapt to any of them, especially if you get fitted. Plus, AFAIK only one of you said that they were going in the bag this year and I'm not sure they are still in play. Wilson, Sub70, Proto, Miura, Epon, Vega, Takomo, Toura, New Level, Hogan... there're a lot of options for filling your bag if you don't want mainstream sticks.

Trouble is James, I would like to get fitted for these but other than American Golf, nobody near me stocks them and if I am going to spend on new clubs I want a better facility to be fitted at.
