Benin Republic is a small country on another level, a 3 hours drive from Lagos.. It is the definition of peace and tranquility. I love the old architectural designs, though the city doesn't really speak luxury but you can see that they pay attention to details. The country is clean and driving in this country is too sane that I was almost getting uncomfortable LOL. I have visited the country 3 times this year. Once I can't hold the Naija stress, I just take the 3 hours drive to cool my mind. I did some reviews of lovely places to visit there. You can check it out. . LOL But all in all. Well done Tayo you are doing a nice job. I can confidently say nobody does it better

nice video...question... how many Benin's are there.... as the world map shows Benin, Benin city and this video is about Benin republic ... sorry if im sounding ignorant
@LekeAdelaja3 жыл бұрын
@@Cleo1John It's ok to ask questions. Please feel free to ask there is Benin City in Nigeria. Benin City is the capital of Edo. Its made of up of a tribe with rich culture and people. Benin Republic on the other hand is a country. It is Nigeria's closest neighbor to Nigeria. It shares a border with Nigeria in Lagos. I made several videos on my last visit to benin Republic. Kindly subscribe I will be uploading more
@seismicvertigo3453 жыл бұрын
@@Cleo1John Leke above has explained accurately. In addition, there are two Benins. One to the geographical left of the Yorubas in Nigeria and one to the right of the Yorubas, within Nigeria. The geographical coastal left of the Yorubas, the Yoruba coast itself, and the geographical coastal right of the Yorubas were, by Europeans, termed collectively, the Bight of Benin. On the left is now a country Benin Republic, named after that Bight supposedly, in the center are the Nigerian Yorubas, and on the right is the historical Benin empire, afterwhich the entire bight was named. Hope that helps.

I'm a Ghanaian that was born in Benin and schooled there at the famous Ekinous Bilingual Schools (which I'd like you to visit when next you go there...) and I was always travelling to Nigeria and I even stayed in Aja Illaje(Ikota) for some months. I stayed in Togo for some months too and now I'm back to my country Ghana ❤... My point is: we are distinguished by our various nationalities, languages, but the culture and our way of life is very similar... I wish you could visit the main capital of Benin which is Porto-Novo... You'll know that you're in a different country because of the serenity and fast movement of the traffic, but you'll still think you're in Nigeria because you'll meet one Yoruba person every 10 metres you walk... Nice video though ⚡... Too bad I saw it today 😢

There are loads of affordable hotels if you know your way around a place called John K. As you earlier said about the boarder, Nigerians part of the boarder is an eye sore. I was in Benin Republic in Cotonou in the early 90s from Lagos on a working visits and again in 2002-03 from UK where I have been sojourned for nearly three decades. I am thinking of retiring now and Lagos has recently been unattractive due to the current socio-economic & political intrigues. I have been thinking of Cotonou, a quiet, clean and peaceful location very close to Lagos outside Nigeria to invest in a very decent property in a top notch area and have my peace of mind. Fly into Lagos once in a while to attend events and family. I then saw this video that confirms my thought process. Thank you Tayo.

@Ayomide Ahmed, I know all the Western States like the back of my hand including Ondo state where my late mother hails from. When you get to the stage in life that I am at the moment where I can see 60 around the corner, jumping into a car 🚗 to attend to business or function in Lagos after experiencing transportation in Europe for over three decades is unappealing. For me Abeokuta is next location. If there was a fast, safe modern train link to Ibadan perhaps but ideally what is needed is a circular, regularly train that goes from Lagos to Ikorodu to Sagamu to Abeokuta back to Lagos. That will probably decongest Lagos. Irrespective of whatever is on the ground, for me safety & power (electricity) comes first and I am not convinced we have that yet in the South West.

It will expand economic activity within our own control and eventually force our governments to better manage. I am looking forward for the days when young and old African tourists can move around Africa in large numbers, that will bring costs down.and efficiency will have to go up. All those impediments like excessive road blocks, and high transport and accommodation charges will be gone.we will spend our money in the continent supporting each other.

Countries in Africa got a lot of potential but they don’t promote their tourism or show it to the world and I think they can learn from countries like Ghana, Kenya, Rewanda. Tanzania

Another great video. I agree that we have much more similarities with other African countries. I also like the religious bit. I'm always attacked over religion at home in Nigeria. Thank you for these videos and insight. You and your brother Wode Maya are really helping us Africans see how much we have to learn from one another. Thank you

Thanks Taiyo for showcasing Benin. It's such an unknown country around the world. I always had to carry a map or always tell people my country is located next to Nigeria so they can have an idea of its whereabouts on this planet earth. I am glad that KZbinrs like you with a broad audience are making it better known. Thanks again.

I schooled in Badagry and had classmates who came from there, their humility is nothing to be compared with. People from there are always very kind and receptive to strangers they even provide with you with a translator/guide You were right about the neatness and they love night hangouts ehn!!!!

My late mom is from Benin(Dahomey), from the Ametornu family. She got married to my dad (a Ghanaian). She died about 10 years ago and the last time I went there(Benin) with my mom and dad is in the 90s. Someone should help me locate and get in touch with my mom's family in Benin. Her surname is AMETORNU.

@Tayo that's exactly the same laws we have in Idemmili local government in Anambra state. We don't kill pythons, if you do you must have a funeral ceremony for it , just like you would a human being, or be expelled from the town. Python is a diety in Idemmili and there're python shrines you can visit there.

Christianity has messed up that culture. I am from Idemili, we don't kill python, but people from Ebonyi and Enugu living in my town kill and eat them, even when we find out, we only reprimand them, nobody enforces that tradition gain. Everyone forms spirit filled Christian
@ucheekwebelem51603 жыл бұрын
I'm from imo state and my grandmother's maternal home called Umuagwó, they do not kill Pythons too. A serious crime and these snakes do not harm people but trust the messing of our psyche about snakes and how "evil" they are.

Yesterday August 1st was their Independence Day. I saw a lovely video of their people celebrating the event on someone’s WhatsApp status. I enjoyed the performance and decided to check Benin 🇧🇯 online for any reviews and I found this video by Tayo. Viewing his experience was like me being there myself .. One of my long term goal is to visit at least 10 African countries before I turn 50. I’m 32 and have only been to 4. 🤣🤣🤣 let’s see how this goes…. Thanks for sharing Tayo .

Great video bro. I wished I had gone to some of those places u mentioned. I visited Benin from Canada and the most amazing thing was the peace and absence of crime. I saw so many women selling on the streets at night alone and walking alone sometimes on dark streets. I asked the person I was with about crime and he said it was non-existent basically. Totally amazing when it comes to that. I also visited the temple of pythons - hundreds of them.

Thanks for taking me along on your trip to this beautiful country. As a little boy I spent a few Christmas holidays and summer breaks in Cotonou and Porto Novo. I have always love how clean the county is with their tree lined streets. Plus the obey traffic rules and respect their Gendarmerie. Lovely country. And yes i prefer your narratives to voiceover.
