When the song blew up, she gushed about how Taylor Swift is a big inspiration in her song writing. She stated that Taylor's song - Cruel Summer was a big inspiration in the creation of one of her songs. Taylor and Olivia are really good friends and Olivia lovingly calls her mom. But after Olivia's song blew up, Taylor took initiative to claim rights to the song. So Olivia ended up giving up half of the earnings from the song to Taylor. There is no beef as Olivia had openly admitted to the 'inspiration' from the start. Taylor and Paramore both earned some percentage to the respective songs. (Two separate songs) Btw, this "copying / stealing" has a name in the music industry. IT'S CALLED SAMPLING. Many artists do it. They would usually give up some percentage of the earnings from the song they made to the owner of the song they sampled. It's a norm in the music industry. Nothing is unique.

The issue is she didn’t take inspiration, just simply ripped the same melody and you can’t legally do that. If it’s true that “everything has been done before” then most songs would get sued but it doesn’t happen that often with someone as big as Olivia because most people aren’t that blatant about literally taking an exact melody and barely changing it at all. She literally had to fork over profit because the court realizes yes she is a stealer. If she wasn’t a stealer then she wouldn’t have had to fork over 50%. Forking over 50% of profit from those songs is basically saying she stole half of a copy righted work.
