Why is Perspective Such a Problem? - Includes a Solution

Why does perspective continue to be such an ongoing problem for so many? Perhaps the problem is often with the architect-suited perspective theory diagrams, not well suited to those who love to draw architecture and streetscapes. These 20 minutes may just switch on the 'Aha!' lightbulb moment where perspective all finally makes sense.

To answer your question, my struggle has been to gauge scale of a facade when on-site and I have to look up and side to side due to the buildings facade being so large and the distance is limited to back up for a deeper view. My Lines don’t seem to look correct.

When I draw this, I try to not see it as a 3D shape moving backwards, but as a 2D shape parallel to me. This 2D shape is easier to transfer onto the paper. Does that make sense? It’s a different way of seeing. 😀

I like your mathematical approach (angle up and down using eye level as the for the zero point) perspective.

my problem is finding or making or finding a vanishing point in real life when it is wide apart. How do I know even with a Rubik cube ( been trying to practice on that ) how far apart the vp's are?

Best just to draw what you see. Otherwise you need to choose an eye level and where you want your VPs to be.

My perspective problem is anything outside the "box" shape all details seem off

Learning see the pattern of fanning out perspective angles should help with this. I always check first to see which architectural elements are in the same horizontal alignment and therefore on the same perspective angle. It gets easier with practice. Don’t give up. 😀
