With all due to respect, but in this video he looks like a beggar, even though it’s meant to present some sort of casual vibe, it looks untidy. I have nothing against anyone from G’sG, to make it clear.

My father always wore cordovan oxfords from Barrie Ltd., now sadly out of business. They lasted forever. Since he bought a new pair every year, he had quite a collection of them. The newest pair he wore for dress, older ones for less formal occasions, and the oldest pair (waterproofed) for snow shoveling.

Excellent video, thank you. Looking good Preston! I have 2 pairs of special order Crockett & Jones Oxfords in black Cordovan, a wholecut and a cap toe. Easy to look after and because they’re made on a last that’s perfect for me they haven’t rippled either. I had them made from Cordovan predominately for our inclement British weather, they excel on the days I need my trench and brolly.

Great video Preston! I just bought cordovan loafers from Crockett and Jones in dark brown. The colour is deep and rich with many brown tones. Also the ripples instead of the creases are an attractive less formal look. I would recommend loafers or plain toe shoes to best show off the ripples. It seems a shame to use cordovan on trainers but it’s nice to hear about Crown - I’ll check them out. Thanks

I have a pair of cordovan boots in color 8, and a wingtip in cognac, both from Carmina. I love the luster they have and the shades of color they have against the light. The only thing is that in summer weather they can be quite hot and bulky for walking. I still have to get a pair of unlined cordovan, maybe that should do the trick.

Carmina (which, in my opinion, is currently the reigning King of Cordovan) is exceptional when it comes to tanning Cordovan in various shades of color (among which are green - the color of the pair of Cordovan Wholecuts I purchased from them - and blue).
@spbynum2 жыл бұрын
Carmina doesn’t have anything to do with the production or coloring of the Shell Cordovan material itself. They source it through Horween Leather Co. like most other shoe companies. Alden tends to get first pick but Carmina may be up there too.

You didn’t tell us where they get all these horse hides in the first place. I’m curious about that. Are horses harvested as livestock animals in the US?
@HaargusMcFargus2 жыл бұрын
More often than not, no. Horse is eaten in Canada however so the hides tanned by Horween can come from Canada, Japan or Italy for example. Lots of other shell tanneries in Italy or Japan too like Maryam in Italy or Shinki in Japan
@micahbush53972 жыл бұрын
Some hides come from work horses that have outlived their usefulness, others come from the management of feral mustangs. Other countries raise horses for their meat (especially the steppe countries of Asia), so I imagine a lot of the hides come from that.

@22.07 Dear Preston...Leather sneakers with rubber soles just look horrible. It just defeats the purpose of a semiformal look. If you are looking for a semiformal look with shoes with leather top, you are better off with leather soles and if you are going to reason "comfort" as a excuse for that eye-sore soles then Dainite soles on leather uppers look more elegant. If you are sent these shoes to you how can you guarantee "no bias"?!!!. If these were good enough they would have been popular already by now, but they are not! Contrary to your theme of your attempt to advertise a British brand the look and feel of this sneaker is anything but it. Plus the glossy sheen on this leather tends to make it look cheap bookbinder "leather" despite its longevity . This is why calf leather looks much better for shoes and boots. There is no debate about its durability but the Rexine leather type or Bookbinder type sheen just defeats the argument for the premium price. This would have been your unbiased conclusion if this shoe was not given to you. Such is the impact of bias.
