I moved to Silverlake in the summer of 1998. I had a 1,200 sq. ft. apartment for $620/month (unheard of now) near Sunset/Hyperion. I loved every minute of it. Casbah Cafe was my daily morning ritual. Sunset Junction Street Fair was incredible as well. I ended up moving to Echo Park a week before 9/11 and stayed there for 7 yrs. I have a soft spot for Silverlake.

And where do you move to now ? Genuine question. I love both those places and couldn’t see myself leaving unless it’s to the hills or Santa Monica lol.

@@UpUpDnDnLtRtLtRtBAStart I was born and raised in Whittier. Post-Silverlake/Echo Park, I ended up in MidCity (Crenshaw/Venice Blvd.) around 2009-2018. I'm now back in the suburbs oddly enough (Lake Balboa). I love it out here....except for the brutal summer heat.

I love SilverLake and Echo Park area. So much going on in that area and it’s nicely located between DT/East LA, North La, and the rest of west LA.

I remember "Patriotic Assemblies" on that patio many many years ago. A lovely school architecturally.

25+ years off of silver lake blvd. I worked in photography and it really had a big effect on me as far as body of work. I worked with architects and chefs. Great music venues the TRAFFIC around it is awful. When my dad died it took literally 15 minutes just to get on the on ramp. Off of Benton. Anais Nin to Frank Lloyd to Neautra were all there.

LA in a few minutes. What hype! I've lived and grown up near Silverlake and never heard it loved/hated any more than other neighborhoods. Sheesh.

I live in Glendale and I would go to Silver State for a great steak at a steakhouse that was just awesome.

I used to love Silverlake! Cool restaurants and entertainment venues. After spending 8 months there, I think it is overrated…the people, the prices, and the vibes. It’s the Inner City for woke hipsters who grew up in the suburbs or Midwest! It has a beautiful landscape!!! Vibes are lowly stimulating. I overpaid for a lot of stuff there to have weak connections and conversations with one-sided extroverts who think Silverlake brings clout and prestige. Silverlake does have high income earners but the infrastructure is poor and the amenities are low. Yes they have a Trader Joe’s , Erewhon, and a Gelson’s but a bulk of the amenities utilized by Silverlake residents are in Burbank and Glendale. It’s a hassle. Loud area. There seems to be a large income disparity in Silverlake. Driving is a nightmare. I live in Sherman Oaks it’s convenient and affordable. It’s not a hipster neighborhood. There are a bunch of regular people.
