It seems to me that a short first gear and tall last gear is exactly what you want in a dual sport/adventure bike? That way you can do both your rock crawling and your highway cruising?

Doohickey parts are all the same as the Gen 2, we've done several now. Gear ratios are all the same as previous years according to Kawasaki's specs but it wouldn't be the first time their info is wrong. I also loved & hated the new peg setup especially when wet until I changed pegs to some with some bite. Problem solved. JNS is working on peg lowering brackets without isolators for those that want rigid pegs. My biggest gripe is the aux light switch as well, I see you agree. I may come out with a plug and play harness to tie it in with the high beam, that's what I plan to do to mine. Thanks for the mention!

This is the bike you need when your wife is out of ideas and stars to talk about the private life of her girlfriends and their husbands, because you know that if her grilfriends share their privacy, your wife will share yours with them. The bike is slow to get you to the end of the world, and if in route to it she has an "emergency" is slow to return home, so if you decide to return in the middle of your journey, most likely she will have her "emergency" resolved when you arrive home.

I have 150 mi on my Adventure. Removed my saddle bags until I need them incase I lay it down. Im curious to see how much protection the crash bars give. Looks like the fog lights might get damaged if layed over. Have ordered Bark Busters and gel grips. But sure miss the tack and temp guage. But over all a better bike than my 2018 KLR.

I dropped mine and the fog light never touched the ground the stock crash bar and the side bag keep it off the ground 😂

I think the saddle bags create a lot more wind resistance that one would think. Might get a few more MPGs by doing that. I'll be curious what my MPG ends up being for when i'm slabbing.

I don’t own one, but I owned a DR650 and now have a VStrom 650. Was waiting for the KLR but took too long to get here. Like you said all your issues are easy to fix and shouldn’t be a big deal. “Terrible” is an over exaggerated…no bike is perfect. Round mirrors is so minor. Short gearing in 1st is an asset in rough off roading where you need to go really slow. Longer 5th is great for Highway. Droopy footpegs are a genuine concern. Just replace them with solid, serrated foot pegs. Just be ready for more foot vibrations. Put Versys 650 mirrors for that modern look. Done! Enjoy the bike.

The gearing on my 2001 is my only complaint. They all need a 6 speed trans, no matter which gen. Evenly spaced so you can tailor the final drive for offroad or highway use, depending on where you plan on riding. I have wanted a KLR since 1984 when they were 600s. Love mine even if it's slow. -I have the same bike. Foot pegs are not a problem. It's funny you complained about the foot pegs then said how nice the foot pegs where to remove vibration. LOL -First gear? I have no issues with first gear. I think it helped me get out of some messes I was getting myself into dealing with mud. 5th gear feels good at 55 - 60mph, but faster than that, it's fine but not as comfortable. -Front suspension? I didn't notice it was that bad. -The mirrors are some of the best mirrors I've ever had with any stock bike. I've owned a ton of bikes. I'm really happy that the mirrors actually let me look around my shoulders where most stock mirrors don't. -They fixed the doohicky. LOL - I agree the fog light button (although they are way brighter than fog lights, I think they are auxiliary driving lights) should be in a different location, however, they really are driving lights. I leave them on so people see me. That bike has better lights than most cars. - Yes the front headlight isn't that great but when you have your auxiliary lights things are amazing. Yes, my headlight was pointed up as well. So I too need to make that 30 second adjustment. It's talked about in the owners manual. You should just sell the bike now. Someone will give you exactly what you bought or more.

I just can't take this bike seriously when it's put in the dual sport category. It is too heavy, and the fairings are too fragile for me to consider it a dual sport. It is now, for me at least, a full-on adventure bike through and through. As an adventure bike it's great, especially for the price. But as a dual sport it falls short, way shorter than any other dual sport I can think of. Personally, I'm just gonna grab myself a DR650. Do the basic mods, add an oversize fuel tank and a seat, and call it a day. Better suspension and travel, much lighter with roughly the same power, skinnier and easier to handle off road. If I wanted a cheap adventure bike I'd get the KLR650. Sadly, I'm not in the market for an adventure bike yet, I'm not over 40.
@FullThrottleJunkie2 жыл бұрын
You make a fair point but the KLR 650 is not known for being great at anything but it does everything. That is why they have sold so many
@YourLocalRaccoon2 жыл бұрын
@@FullThrottleJunkie On the contrary, I think it makes a most excellent light adventure bike. I classify adventure bikes as ones you'd take round the world. Exploring the far reaches and seeing all there is to see. But not usually taking the hardest trails to get there. A dual sport is more capable off road, able to cross rougher terrain and easier to manage at low speeds on said terrain. I wouldn't drive a klr650 through a rainforest, but if there's a trail that's been carved through already then it's all set. A klr is a bike that will go around the globe in 80 days. A dr650 can too, but it won't be as comfy and will probably need to stop more for gas and repairs/maintenance.
@FullThrottleJunkie2 жыл бұрын
@@YourLocalRaccoon have had klr650s through some pretty thick and deep stuff some of the guys I was riding with were surprised the KLR was making it through it. For me it is a Swiss army knife bike can do many different things. For someone my size 6 ft 2 and 200 lb I can handle the weight of the bike off road with no problem. And I have been doing so for many years. A lot of it comes down to the capabilities of the rider and knowing how a certain bike would react I probably wouldn't be as good off-road on a different bike as I am on the KLR because it is comfortable and suits my needs
@YourLocalRaccoon2 жыл бұрын
@@FullThrottleJunkie you're right but I digress. The average Joe looking for a dual sport most likely isn't going to look at a klr650. If Kawasaki put a 6th gear on it and changed the engine out for a vtwin while keeping all else the same, more people might look at it. But they won't as they want to keep it as a dual sport, which in my mind it still isn't.
