The Central African Republic (CAR) known in French as République centrafricaine, is a central African nation that has seen decades of coups, rebellions, and violence since its independence from France in 1960. It's been in the news recently as a new and unlikely coalition of rebels comprising of both Christian Anti-Balaka and Muslim Ex-Séléka has surrounded the capital Bangui and is currently battling against UN peacekeepers for control.

Great video! It's also interesting that people in Bangui believe that when Bozize gave the Chinese uranium rights in CAR all hell broke loose and he had to escape to Cameroon. The people believe it was France that orchestrated that. Now Bozize is back with the support of France and apparently is the one organising the rebels. The Russians invested a lot in CAR and the current president is using their support to keep the peace. I hope it doesn't turn into another Syria because it's going in that direction.

You have a nice channel containing a wide variety of topics i find interesting, and the depth within is fantastic. But i'd suggest increasing your production value, the cost of equipment and worked time per article, especially in the post production stage. It seems your pre production is proper, but the actual production could use a good microphone with a pop filter, and the post processing could do with some compression on your voicetrack, as the master level is quite low on your videos. This is presumeably for the dynamic range being too wide so the peaks are too high. Anyhow, skillshare? It has been proven, and test yourself, the moment you find a video (especially one suited for being in the background) not enjoyable is the moment you find the audio unclear. 360p is fine, but 240p and especially 144p are not watchable, not for the video quality but for the _audio quality_. But good stuff, keep it up!

CAR: the real battle royale

Please, correct me if I am wrong on this. So, after the decolonisation period of Africa in the late 20th century, many "unnatural" states were created based on previous colonial borders and not on ethnic groups/religion (e.g. in this case the Central African republic). Some countries that were more stable and with stronger economies (e.g. Nigeria, South Africa) managed to hold on to most of their original territories that were given to them by their colonial masters. However, many countries, like the CAR or Somalia, experienced and are experiencing revolts, revolutions and insurgencies. Aren't those revolts, revolutions and insurgencies a natural (and unfortunately very bloody) follow up to the inability of European powers to create functional states in Africa? and in a way, a natural way for the natives of those lands to create their own states along the lines of ethnic groups and religion, that way correcting the faults of the European powers. SO, in 40-50 years we might see more break-away republics (like the Republic of Logone or Somaliland) and Africa having way more countries and autonomous states. Is it not the responsibility of the UN to support the self-rule of those ethnic groups instead of the established "unnatural" states, like the CAR? (I'm guessing the answer is no, but please share your point of view).

I'm not sure I agree with this rhetoric. Why do we assume that only Western nations are capable of tolerance for diversity within their borders? I don't think that ethnostates are the solution here.

@@TheHeycalmdownfella Although I agree that tolerance is perfectly possible in nations, let's not be naive. Most developped countries in the world today are either composed of a single ethnicity (France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea...) or have an absolute dominant ethnicity among "second-zone" cultures, like in Russia (with the Russians), in China (with the Hans), in the UK (with the English) and so on. The US do not really fit in these cases, that's true, but there is still strong ethnic tensions within the country.

The first guy Boganda may have been actually assassinated, considering traces of explosives were found. But no report was ever published on it so it remains unresolved. Considering that France isn’t known for its interventions in its former colonies, I find it highly likely.

Well at least the rebels are willing to cooperate with each other. Usually these kinds of rebel coalitions fall apart fairly quickly like they did in the Congolese wars.
