Mustangs have always been great drift cars, I think people confuse "good" with "easy" It's always going to be easier to drift smaller lighter cars with way less power so that's why you see so many people that want to drift buy something else. You could also argue that together cars are "more fun" to drift just because of how easy it is to throw some cars around corners, but mustangs are perfectly fun cars to drift as well.

When did mustangs start production in your mind? Fox body is the same weight as skyline weight. Sn95 is still Lighter than a supra. None of them had all that much power though 😂

@@casematecardinal not as much as the EFI intake manifold. 302 Windsor's are a decent motor and didn't need dohc to perform especially in a car as light as the fox. They just didn't compete in stock form or close to stock form with an RB25 and similar motors. With a tune , intercooler and exhaust most jap cars were capable of 250-300 real world hp. Can probably add another 50 to that in American hp. In Australia you could usually run a 13 sometimes a 12 for around $1200 on a lot of jap cars they definitely weren't underpowered to the majority of Mustangs is what I was trying to get at. Even the brand new mustang with the coyote unless it's a special model runs 1/4 numbers you can get out of most 90's jap cars with the original turbo.

My coworker at my last job was only 18 and had a late 90s mustang that he bought for dirt cheap not running and threw an engine and suspension in and that car was so much fun to drive, but in fairness his dad had a very equipped garage so he didn't do all that shit in his driveway like Chris 😂

Mustang drift cars have been in formula D for quite a while, going way back to the early 2000s even with Ken Gushi and VGJ rocking the 05 body style in their cars. My dad actually ran the hauler for Ken's blue Mustang, and the back-up engine from that car is in his best friend's shop getting put into a 67 Fastback

It's been a while but I used to know some dudes with USDM drift builds, 3rd and 4th Gen F-body platforms and Fox Body and SN95 and New Edge Mustangs all were pretty good platforms. C4 Corvette when they were bottomed out in price and you could find 6MT models for under 10k were pretty good too. Won't lie though the S13 and S14, E30 and E36, NA and NB Miata, A70 Supra, and RX7 FC were all more popular platforms in my area though. This was like 2012-2015 when I really was paying attention to the cars running around in that scene.

When people go by the code S650 I am looking for a 4 Door Mercedes not a Ford product. The new style is impressive I would put in a pushrod or multi link suspension in it at the factory and it would not take people out like they do

Yeah, way back before it was called drifting, we used to call it power sliding. The 1st time My Relative bought a Fox Body, he asked me to try it out. I said sure. It was the 1st rear wheel drive with the 3rd Pedal Manual Transmission. I asked where should open her up and pointed to a street. It was a narrow residential street with car randomly parked on each, and did 2 doughnuts 🍩. Then power slid onto the street, and i missed every parked car. As I modulated the accelerator Pedal, he was oh my car.. looking back forth, and was what's up. Shifted to 2nd gear and it was cruising at 90 mph with 2,800 rpm. He bought it used straight out of the delivery truck at the used car lot. He was about to have a kid and traded it for a family car. Salesman asked him, so what's wrong with it. He hands him the keys, and "I'm about to be a dad, you find out. 30 minutes later, the Salesman said I've driven many Dodge Vipers, and they never were as fast as your car. He bought the 1990 Mustang GT. straight from him without dealership knowing. 👦👍🏎🏁🚩 A Mopar guy was Converted to a Ford guy, and I would have bought the car if he told me what was going to get rid of it. He regrets selling it after 20 years. 👦👍🏎🏁🚩

A lot of people don’t understand physics these days, that type of shit is natural for some, but basically that’s why we have a lot of poor drivers, people seem to have lost touch with momentum, decision making, judgement of other driver’s movements on the road, steering control, throttle, brake, e brake, vision, just all type of things great drivers are really good at and naturally understand, most people lost the passion for elite driving skills these days.. lol don’t flame me man I just really love the art of driving and I know there’s somebody who get what I mean ❤😂

Even in NFS Most Wanted, if I wanna piss off the police cars with lots of tyres screeching, donuts, and slides, I'd use Mustang. Not because the Clio or the RX-8 has not been maxxed yet but because it's fun sliding about with the Mustang.

Theyre only used because of sponsors and because theyre the only serviceable american sports car chassis for anything other than drag races. One of the front wheels on new models lifts off really bad in a slide and that doesnt work. 4 tires better than 3, and thats ignoring the fact you'll need to borrow against your house to build one

Can I ask doesn’t have to do more with it being a JDM car that you don’t like it or do you think a muscle car is just easy or cheap? Like you’re not wrong they should be able to do it in anything, but I think with mustangs having the ability to have a lot of performance, as well as a lot of muscle cars just because of the engine space and typically the engine already in it, it’s pretty easy to fix the weight distribution on the mustangs for drifter and a lot of muscle cars, and it’s a lot easier to get them to lose traction and get a drive-through that can handle what you’re doing, like it takes as much work as a jdm ( or European car) it just depends the type of work like from what I read the Aston Martin formula, drift car was more engine work, then bodywork they just had to repair the body they got, do some suspension stuff and all that because they got a race car they had to fix, besides that I would say a lot more of the JDM cars have a build, where it’s easy to drift once you get the power and a couple things you need, with BMW I think it’s a middle ground because a lot of it BMW engines I know of are pretty easy to give power and it’s not like I’m saying you get 1000 hp I’m just saying you need a little bit of power, and now muscle cars, which typically are built from the factory drag cars, depending the company/car you get but they all put power to the ground, and usually don’t have a great weight distribution, or suspensions, naturally for drifting, and tend to be way too heavy, where is Erin ? I don’t like either GDM or muscle. I’m a fan of Aston Martin, because it feels like a really good middle ground when it comes to size, weight, and power.

James Deane won 3 FD championships with an S14 and Adam Lz used to drift a s15 in FD. The Mustang is a much harder car to drift than any S-chassis, every rtr driver could easily drift most JDM cars. They don't cause of the Ford sponsorship, and because the Mustang is a fun car, despite being big and heavy.
