Bring them back! I have the slightly earlier KG4.2, which are 10" with a 10" passive radiator. Upgraded tweeters and crossovers, braced boxes, and I love them! Not neutral (treble city), not the most detailed ever, but so much fun! Especially for movies. Cristal clear dialogue and large, deep and enveloping sound and you will feel the bass. They also scale surprisingly well with equipment. Bring them back!

I’m just happy to see some klipsch speakers without that trendy copper cone. Yea it was cool for a year or two. But once half the world got obsessed with copper speakers they don’t do it for me anymore. @MrHeHim
@MrHeHim 3 жыл бұрын
Tried them out, the center cannel for whatever reason didn't match the sound and conflicted making it sound noticeably worse so that's being sold. But! the two speakers by themselves sounded amazing and immediately replaced a pair of Infinity Entra Two I've had since 2003 for my living room and although bigger definitely worth the space. Now i keep reading about titanium tweeters and crossover upgrades making these speakers really fill in the center and clear up the top end for under $100. Right now I leave the speaker grill on because i found the tweeters fatiguing at ~8 feet away, although not at all when i had them in the garage testing them out at about 15 feet away. Could have also been the outside humidity dampening the sound. Will probably add mass or dynamat to the horn, people report good things. Funny enough, the Definitive ProCinema 60 center and surrounds complement the KG 3.5's to where it fills in the sound without conflicting with and overall makes everything sound better! Strange, but I'll take it! I have some Elac UB5 for when i want to enjoy music. Now i find myself enjoying the Klipsch and would love to upgrade them, starting with the crossover. I'm sure it uses electrolytic caps that are old and worn so I'll just order some inexpensive polycaps and see where that takes me. Last time I upgraded speakers where some of those early 90's Fisher speakers with the white woofer made of foam. Replaced the caps, wiring, and spray painted the woofer to add rigidity. They where far better after those upgrades. Might replace the caps on the Infinity speakers for fun.

8" and a tweeter seemed like a good idea in the 70's, but both drivers failed to overlap enough to produce convincing mids. However, 8" & a compression driver does fix the problem and Klipsh had a bunch of variation on the theme that produced an excellent budget speaker. It probably went away more beacause of cosmetics and marketing. Like acoustic lenses, 15/12" woofers and so many superior solutions to what is being offered now, it belongs to an era when companies were run by engineers and not bean counters, product quality was considered good marketing (because of reputation) and consumer satisfaction was king and queen. We need to send our MBA's back to school, they gutted western civilization for a quick buck. F' Them.

Standmount speakers trouble me greatly, apart from taking superiour tower speaker space, they precariously sit there (blu-tak'd or not) on their stands, lurking like a pair of predatory praying mantises just waiting for somebody to trip over something & knock em down or a friend's dog or brat to run into the stands for a 9/11 scenario with double the chance of falling of smashing into the tv inbetween them

I am an amateur speaker designer/builder. Do it all the time for my friends. I was actually considering making something very very similar to this Klipsch product. Mini tower with a seven or eight inch woofer crossed with a tweeter that has a decently low FS. If you can find an 8-in driver that plays high enough without significant distortion and cone breakup, this design is an absolute dream for a budget full range audio solution

The small woofer trend has really made the recepy for affordable, great speakers artificially complicated. I have some 20 year old sizeable bookshelves that belonged to a Pioneer S-A6800 system. Big front port, 8 inch woofer and 2.5 inch midrange/tweeter. Simple capacitor on the midrange/tweeter but to this day they sound much, much better than they should. Very smooth, airy and fulfilling roomfilling bass. To my surprise it's been very difficult to find better looking but similar speakers.

Cerwin Vega XLS series looks like horn loaded soft dome tweeters. Or rather they call it "waveguide". Maybe is halfway a horn sound? And their SL series is has small 8" floor standing but with normal soft dome tweeter. The SL-8 costs $400/pair. Klipsch R-610F has one 6.5" and costs $578/pair. Klipsch R-620F has two 6.5" for $800/pair. I think that two 6.5" would sound better than one 8"

Last summer I ended up getting hold of a 90s Yamaha Natural Sound Integrated Amp and a set of Paradigm 7se MK IIIs for free off of a family friend, they weren't really using the system much any more and just looking for someone to take it so I jumped on it! I already had a set of matching 5se MK IIIs at home so I set them up in the B speaker bank of the amp and added a 90s Phillips CD Changer that was lying around. Gotta say I really love the sound of it, I could ditch one of the sets of speakers and put a sub in the B bank, but the 2 sets together really do complement each other and both have plenty of low end on their own, there's something to be said for these more modest setups with just a set of midsized towers and an amp

Agreed the 90's was a lost decade for Stereos, I don't even think I bought a single piece of equipment. 1970's was Stereo Wars, 1980's was the digital change, 1990's nothing new just the same old same old.

The towers I see made with a mid and tweet are higher end speakers. I have a pair of Usher Audio CP-6311 speakers I bought in 2003 that are still my favorites but they are heavy and take up some space from its stand. They have a silk dome tweet and 7" mid - Yes they can't fill a large room but it fills a medium room no problem and can dig deeper and have a nice warmth to it than a lot of the newer multi-speaker designs.

Thanks for this review! Right outside of a Circuit City, was a trailer. I went in and sat down and witnessed the same demo of those tiny Bose speakers. Everyone was stunned. haha....great marketing.. Small speakers are fueled by demand; A lot (not all) of women, wives,... hate seeing speakers so the smaller the better right? Men who love speakers will compromise and despite the illogic of bookshelves on stands being more acceptable, it's an easier sell. Speakers have gotten smaller and less efficient. The same thing took place in the world of optics with smaller and smaller refractor telescopes which require very expensive glass to make good views possible. So now no one manufactures the moderately, great performing low-tech long telescopes anymore. I just bought a set of mint, Like New, Klipsch KG 1.2 along with the companion KG SW passive sub ( similar to that passive Bose sub!) Yes, a bookshelf but they sound incredible! I love vintage Klipsch.
