The passage from 2:50 to 3:50 is probably the closest thing there is to perfection in music

You judged the pause to perfection! You obviously understand the 'language' of classical music.

This movement is a love message to his immortal beloved. Which he cannot be with. So his love is expressed through this music! Listen carefully & you will get the feeling of being in love with that very special person in your life, that you cannot be with for some hidden specific reason. This is what the mere sadness of this piece represents. It expresses unwilling separation of your one & only other self.

Adagios are composed for a sad, melancholy, or of someone's passing, or even dreamy memories. It does bring tears to my eyes

I love this piece!! If you like this I really really recommend listening to his 3rd and 4th piano concerto as well, they’re just as amazing and Zimmerman also has great live performances of those on KZbin

Hey Gidi! Thanks for the reaction to my favourite work of music ever. Me and a lot of people tend to get this kind of spiritual connection with this piece (it's that good). To me, this piece is the incarnation of beauty itself in its truest form. Some may find this piece sad- but to me it sounds like what happiness would sound like. I'm only 17 years old so I hope to continue my journey with music through learning and discovering more along the way :) Now that you accepted this request, I recommend you go for Liszt's epic "Les Preludes" or Gershwin's jazzy "Rhapsody in Blue"- after you react to the triumphant 3rd movement of this masterpiece.

So excited for the 3rd movement ((: You paused just right at the transition, I'm betting you got startled by the 3rd mov entry XD

Interesting that your first instinct was to call this sad. I think it sounds more comforting. Like a mother giving you headscratches. The world just drifting away, you feeling like you are floating.

Same, I think sounds comforting, but for me, it's more like someone I love telling me "it's okay, you're gonna be fine".
