Ganondorf: why do I always get the short end of the stick. Seriously I can make a top 10 list of every time I get humiliated or mistreated by either Nintendo themselves or the public 1. I have 3 out of 5 star action figures at best and that's me trying to be optimistic seriously just about everyone else in the franchise who gets action figures get much more attention and care. 2. Skyward Sword HD is a marketing tool used to "set people up" for what BOTW2 is. Nintendo could have easily ported WWHD and TPHD as those games are already finished, but they decided to remaster SSHD with new controls, QOL improvements and a big marketing push instead. To me BOTW2 is going to be a BOTW/Skyward Sword hybrid.

Skyward sword and BOTW and crazy similar (From exploration to lore, to mechanics) And now the botw 2 trailer showed us returning to the sky. I don’t think that’s good enough. Zelda is only one year younger, and barely. It’s had barely any less impact. It’s had 17 games, none of which rank below 70 in scores. They are prolific, they are iconic. I don’t think it’s absurd at all to expect a little more than…a barely-changed port of a 10-year-old game that was already supposed to be celebrating the 25th anniversary, and a game and watch.

Honestly with the Age of Calamity DLC, Skyward Sword HD, the little Game and Watch thing, and knowing more about Breath of the Wild 2, I'm not really all that disappointed. Sure, we didn't get any big concerts or ports or anything, but this year has plenty of first party content besides Zelda, like Metroid Dread, Mario Party Superstars, and all the Pokémon anniversary stuff too. That combined with Mario's anniversary being super recent makes it all a pretty packed period. Adding in more Zelda stuff would be awesome, but truthfully a bit excessive. If they just keep some stuff running behind the scenes like more remakes and new games, and release those over time, I'll gladly take that just as well as a big celebration.

Here's a crazy thought: there's nothing significant about a 35th anniversary to begin with. I mean, are we going to celebrate a series every five years now? Nintendo also rarely celebrates even more significant anniversaries and for the most part, I think that is a good thing as it means they won't rush games just to have something out for an anniversary year (like sega did with Sonic 06 for example). Also it should mean that people are less inclined to expect something big of a franchise just because it happens to reach a specific age. Yes, I know, Mario happened last year, but that year was relatively empty overall so they had to fill it with something plus they were planning to open the theme park just then so things probably just happened to line up for that. This year on the other hand is quite packed with releases as it is. I don't think it was crazy to suspect something related to Zeldas 35th anniversary to happen this year, but I never saw it as the "safe assumption" that a lot of people apparently did.

It does not start till after Skyward Sword. Nintendo has a surprise Dec game. The Zelda anniversary goes all through next year. Most likely the March 2022 game will be DK. Splatoon 3 is most likely the June 2022 game. Bayonetta 3 is most likely the Oct 2022 game leaving BOTW2 as the holiday 2022 game. The hidden Dec game is likely the Windwaker Twilight combo. Or it could also be Kirby or the new Monolith game.

Mario’s anniversary campaigns likely started long before covid happened, so they were already on their way Zelda’s would’ve had to start during the pandemic, merch and stuff don't just materialize instantly, and last year would've been when they were working on it. I think this Mario vs. Zelda discourse is a great example of the difference between "kids entertainment" and "family entertainment." That debate really kicked into gear in 2019 because of reasons I'm sure we all remember, and I also think it's why Zelda appeals to me more than Mario ever did even though I didn't grow up with either franchise (the only "mainstream" game I played as a kid was Pokemon). To me, Mario was always just the cute kart/party game I put in when I had friends over, while Zelda was something I could get really invested in on my own.

Skyward Sword HD isn't part of a 35th anniversary celebration. The only thing that's being released specifically for the 35th anniversary is the Game & Watch. As for the September kickoff of the Mario anniversary, that's because Mario's anniversary was ACTUALLY in September. The Legend of Zelda's anniversary was in February.

There's still one argument that could be made for Nintendo releasing more Zelda anniversary news later this year though. The western version of the original Legend of Zelda was a summer 1986 release. I think the real reason is due to two factors. 1. Mario 35 was originally meant to happen with the Olympics and to promote the new theme park but do to covid didn't happen. Zelda meanwhile had just another aniversery. 2. Physical ports. 3d Mario games while having a lot of digital ports have basically never been ported physically. Mario 64 ds was the only 3d Mario port before Mario 35. So porting them all for an anniversary makes sense. 3d Zelda meanwhile has had tons upon tons of physical ports. (Oot,GameCube and 3ds),(Majora's,GameCube,3ds) (Windwaker, Wii u) (Twighlight,Wii,Wii u) This leaves skyward sword ad the only entry to not have gotten a physical port. And since they have been ported so much Nintendo probably feels less inclined to port them.

they did release a Zelda game in 2018. They ported the original Hyrule Warriors to Switch that year. Also Skyward Sword HD isn't part of the 35th anniversary. Just like Paper Mario last year was not a part of the Mario 35th despite coming out the same year. So we are only getting a Game and Watch for Zelda's 35th.

HOnestly they're right. Metroid hasnt had games in a long while than the zelda series. So for us to get one, thats a mainline metroid that was canned from the start, is a big boost.

As long as BOTW2 comes out at the end of the 35th anniversary then Zelda still wins the anniversary celebration to me. The only new AAA Mario experience we got was bowsers fury which was only 3-5 hours.

I'd really like Wind Waker and Twilight Princess to come to Switch in a bundle. I still have Wind Waker on the GameCube but my Twilight Princess disc has been scratched horribly and I haven't been able to play for years. And especially Ocarina of Time and Majora's mask 3d remake maybe bundled together. I still have the collection on GameCube so I can play Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask but I sold my 3DS and really miss the graphical upgrades for the 3DS versions. If they port those hopefully it will be without those unnecessary handicaps they gave you against the bosses for the 3DS Majora.

don't know why nintendo could just release the original game - untouched but fix to make it work with the current controller (controller layout should be the same like the wii version with classic controller/pro and scale it's native resolution to match the aspect ratio of a tv's resolution, it blurry on the ui much not the game characters and environment. i would like a zelda: 35th collection with this games in it (full version): 1. zelda 1. 2. zelda 2. 3. a link to the past. 4. ocarina of time sd (maybe in stereoscopic 3d). 5. majora's mask sd (maybe in stereoscopic 3d). 6. windwaker sd (hd does look nice, but sd still fine) 7. twilight princess sd (hd does look nice, but sd still fine). 8. skyward sword sd (just have the button controls like hd version) which adds up close to 6 gb total and could fit in a 8gb card with a simple ui to select the game you want to play and a single music theme. the reason why nintendo advertise mario more is because mario is nintendo's mascot icon and it's very well know by most people, while zelda games and product is usually target on teenagers and up.

I don't get it, how is it small? Last year we got 3d all stars at the very end of the year, for zelda we get a remaster + botw2 next year + hyrule warriors content, and a game & watch, more than mario.
