Making friends is something that always came fairly easy and naturally to me in life. Yet I have always been pretty cautious with who I make close meaningful friendships with. As I got older and wiser I learned you always need to choose your close friends and you don't let others choose you or you end up with a lot of unwanted problems you never needed. You cannot let everyone in and you cannot let bad or exceptionally needy people latch onto you because they will drain you of your vitality. You have to be discerning and you have to vet people before you give them your trust and loyalty. Otherwise people will drain you and abuse your kindness and loyalty or take advantage of your good nature. So I have a lot of acquaintances, a lot who I would call friends in general, a handful I would call good friends, and a few I consider my best friends and true friends that are deep and meaningful relationships. Only the last two categories get to truly know me on a deep and meaningful level because you cannot trust everyone on that level and you don't have the capacity to give everyone that kind of time, loyalty, trust, and devotion. Make others earn that level and don't be afraid to walk away from those who show they are unworthy of your friendship. Because when the chips are down in your life you will find that very very few of those you call friends will be there when you actually need them like you were when they needed you. It is times like those that help you realize who your true friends are and who are just around because they benefit from the association.

I was with a severe narcissist for 5 long years so it happens even when you know to be cautious and discerning. We definitely attract them and I won't make that mistake again. What makes me so emotionally guarded, you ask? Too much emotional damage. As a phrase has it, "once bitten, twice shy." Years of that left me with a shoot first ask questions later attitude that I do not apologize for. Someone doesn't like it? Then go pound sand.

Very accurate! I used to expect the same reciprocation from my friends and it never happened! Then I learned about the 16 Myers Briggs personalities and this helped me tremendously in understanding that this is something I should NOT expect from others and that's just the way it is!

Exactly 💯. I value my individuality and independence too and though I can get along with just about anyone I choose my "friends" carefully. I don't let them choose me. Experience has taught me the importance of that. If you are a good person and have the attributes I look for in a friend I will be open but if you are superficial, pretentious, think you're too good for some people, or have problems being loyal and trustworthy I am going to keep you at arms length. I have a multi tiered way I view acquaintances-friends and to get to the highest tier level you have to be a special person worthy of trust and loyalty. 😉🤙🌌🕊️

I've heard things about INFJ's sometimes not even being able to befriend each other. I feel like because I have matured, I don't know if that would be a hard thing to do, befriend another INFJ that is.

Past several Betrayal and trust issues can cause an INFJ to keep their distance. Also opposite interest in meaningful conversations, For example what may interest you, may not interest others. Not everybody is on same page. Different interest separates true connection

As an INFJ I find it difficult, associate with ones don’t have same like mindset. It’s to counter-productive for INFJ level. We lose time for reflection and making right decisions.
