Great video. Another point that needs to be addressed is when guys like Justin Cooper aren’t able to defend due to injury. Correct me if I’m wrong but the way the rules are currently written he has to move up in 2023 regardless of missing the entire 2022 SX season. It would be great to see some kind of injury exemption put in place.

They should have another full day of racing on Sunday with the same SX tracks that is dedicated to the upcoming amateurs and even the soon to come electric bikes. A perfect opportunity for the Arenacross promoters to dump the backyard size tracks for real SX tracks and possibly save money by sharing the cost of building the full size SX tracks.

I have been proposing an "Open Class" where you ride what you want. Put an age limit on the 250 class & limit the premier class to 15 gates. Let these riders promote themselves on/in the platform they desire.
@Davinhomx2 жыл бұрын
@@scotthartley5386 and who pays for that?. I know the TV channels defintely not gonna show it. I know the average person is not going to be in attendance?. You think some millionair comes in and is like "yeah I fly those kids all across the US so they not even getting shown on TV or anything. But now I am even going to pay them money just cause they call themselves pro now? cause they win in a race nobody cares about. Sounds like THE idea dude. Wow. What we need is to get rid of the heat races. Instead of that we make the 250cc class race longer. Then we implement a 125cc class. Exactly, we go the motogp route. The young guns race 125cc. I want to see 15 and 16 year olds there. The lower talents and next up talents then race 250cc and the 450cc is the main class and you aren't forced up at all. The only class with age restriction would be 125cc. And we get rid of restriction completly in 250cc. If you even make it to the 450cc class it is an honor. Just like older guys that aren't quiet fast enough can race moto2. But moto3 is for the young guns. This would make it way more appealing to an average fan!. We also could copy moto3 in the fact that they basically all race on the same bike. For average fans (trust me in that) it would be way cooler to watch 15-19 year olds battle it out in a moto3 class then moving on to hear the different sound of the 4 strokes in the moto2 class. And then see the best of the best in our motogp class. This is way better, then seeing the same dudes race 3 times a night cause of heats and LCQs. Why should an average person that rn isn't already to deep in this sport care about a rando to qualifie in an LCQ just to get the last place after the main is finished. Why do the best riders in the world. Have to race to even be allowed inside the main event. It's a higher risk of injury and it takes away from the images of the best riders. Cause they only shoulf show themselves once on a sunday!. Just like every professional motorsport does. People have attention spans. And an excitement curve. You want the highest excitement at the main event. You can't show them tomac before that race cause then it is just another race and tomac is just another racer. The concept that supercross has rn is so unprofessional. It's a flat out joke!. A motogp main race isn't even longer then a 450 supercross main. But everyone loves motogp and nobody watches supercross. How come?!. Cause motogp knows how to work with the attention span and they get that more isn't always better. It pretty quickly actually becomes "more is way worse". But supercross treats it like a 5 hour sausage fest for rednecks. You never gonna appeal to the masses if you keep the heatraces. I could agree with giving privateers a 5 round LCQ race in a break or something. But thats it. 3 races, THAT'S IT. You want average people do go home happy. Not annoyed af. And that's what we do rn!. Cause half them leave the during the 450 main. You know why?. Cause they are like "this was cool 2 hours ago, but it's just the same guys again in an even longer race, I'll go home". And next year they gonna be like "yeah it was cool, but it takes so long and then all the noise during all that time, I just gonna stay at home". THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT RANDOS FEEL AFTER A SUPERCROSS EVENT. THIS IS EXACTLY WHY THE MAIN EVENT IS HELD IN AN EMPTY ARENA!. This isn't even an assumption. This is facts!. And it angers me reading comments like yours that would make it even worse cause I know that the people in charge view it the exact same lunatic way. Supercross isn't bad. It is presented in a shitass way. Nobody wamts to watch a marathon event nowadays. I want feld to think about a statement I'll make rn. What is the better answer a friend that attended a supercross event could give his buddy afterwards. Buddy: how was it? Attende: it was cool, but to short Attende: it was cool, but way to long What the buddy now has in mind after answer 1 is: - must have been cool if he would have watched more after answer 2: - can't be that cool if he wished it ended more early This is just some basic stuff here. Logical stuff. But after 4 hours an average person gonna answer more like this in reality: "At first it was really cool. How far they jump is incredible. But it went on and on and on. At some point the bikesound got annoying. And it was the same riders racing over and over again. We then left during the 450 main event. I would recommend to see it once. But I am not going to go there for 5 hours again." With a 125cc then 250cc then 450cc class it would be more like this: "There was this 16 year old in the 125cc class. He was insane. He trippled and took the track just like the 250cc guys I followed him on IG. That 19 year old in the 250cc class looked like he could already race with the premier class but this eli tomac dude is flat out nuts. It was incredible. Well spend 2 1/2 hours" @jasonweigandt I swear this is the way to go!. Please tell it to feld

Nobody wants to see that tho. They don't have a TV deal rn. Is it so difficult to understand that not a single nonhardcore fan would watch another class that is slower on TV?!. Why is it so hard to get that?. It is impossible. Nobody would pay them, cause nobody would show them!. Open your eyes for once watching a supercross and accept that we have to many races already. People actually leave halfway thre the 450 main event!. More races would kill it off.
@keithtarrier45582 жыл бұрын
Part of the "problem" is also 450 riders are now still racing a lot older than before. And that is great, as experience counts so much, fans love it etc. This however leads to the 450 class being too full.... too many good riders, not enough bikes. As you said, 14th is not good enough but in such a stacked field, 14th is actualy good... but you wont be on TV unless you get in a fight or have a big crash. There is not enough time in the race day schedule to add another class, say 450 stock, as this would need 4 more races plus qualifying. Both SX and Outdoors would need to move to a 2 day race schedule... but that would cost more money... etc etc... I don't think we will find a perfect way to overcome the many issues. But... World SX will be another avenue, and by the sounds of it they need 40 good riders for their 10 teams. With the AMA Monster Energy SX having the best riders, one would assume at first at least, most riders going to World SX will be coming from at least some racing in AMA/USA. If CC does sign a 2 year deal , that is great and that is what all pro teams should do. It is too hard and too much pressure to get someone comfortable on a new bike AND expect results from A1 forward. Good job Weege! Keep 'em coming.

Mediocre people can make more sandbagging in the 250s, than competing in the 450s. You want the 450 class to be the premier class, and 250 to remain a feeder class. Doing that devalues the 450 as the premier class.

Slightly better than slowing down or handicapping 450s, however there needs to be a hard rule like age for 250s, or no rule at all. Only other good option is we need 3 classes like back when we had 125s, 250s and 500s. Just make a new 350 class for the in-betweeners like the Martin's and Craig. Heck even Deano and the others could go there... ...or make a two stroke class too. Basically we need a 3rd class for those middle ground guys. Heck change the rules for all 4-strokes to be new size motors. Make 200, 300 and 400 classes to tame down the overall power a bit, but also have that in-betweener class too. Your welcome Senor... 🤠🎲🏆

YES! That's a good idea with a support class for veterans that can't make it. Although, MXGP is currently struggling with this very thing. MXGP has EMX250 and EMXopen, both of which are rammed with guys that could run in the MX2 or MXGP classes. BUT, fighting for wins and podiums looks better on insta than fighting for 23rd or 30th in MX2/MXGP to some people, and because of this, the number of riders on the gate in MXGP is pretty low just now. It's difficult to find the right balance.

How about: wide open - race 250 as long as you want. I do appreciate the big drawback of course - that it de-incentivizes being the elite 450 guy who has to race twice as many rounds as the 250s. Alternately, how about point-out rules that dissolve after a year in 450. E.g. point out, ride 450 and don't have success? Back to the 250s if you want regardless of where you ended in the standings.

I actually think the 250 class is going well. If it was all 16-20 year olds, it would be less of a class. Guys like Jmart, Craig, Nichols, Smith etc make the class interesting and it's still perfectly competitive, if not more. If it was all young guys there wouldn't be alot of competition at the top, it'd be one young guy. Boring.
@SWATTracing2 жыл бұрын
That's the problem. The older guys should be in 450, not sandbagging for a run at a title in the 250.
@racingfuel282 жыл бұрын
I agree with slowing the 450s down, like you said, injuries have gotten way worse the last 10-12 years. Take Roczen for example. Guy nearly had to have a freaking amputation after that first arm injury. One of the best riders in the sport, and his career got completely derailed in three seconds. Look how long it’s taken him to claw his way back, and he’s still not where he was before. He never will be probably. We gotta slow these bikes down before it kills someone. I’d be more in favor of just scrapping 450s altogether, at least in Supercross, and either A going back to 250 2Ts, or B going down to 250Fs and dropping the 250 class back to 125s. Finally force Honda, Kawi, and Suzuki to come to their senses and start making a 2 stroke again. I will say that I could see Shane being a back marker in the 450 class when he moved up, look how many times he had a wide open shot at winning a title in the 250 class, and how many did he win? Zip, yeah, not a single one. I was a big fan of him, but he just never could get it done.

I think they do a pretty good job at keeping that balance. While some riders like Craig might be too good for the series they are in, I also know that those who are younger and less experienced will learn from them and develop faster because of them. This will ultimately help them to make the transition into the war zone better known as the 450 class.
@SWATTracing2 жыл бұрын
You have to break eggs to make an omelet. Whatever you do, someone is missing out. BUT, your stats on 250 riders that go on to win 450 races is hardly surprising. Racing half the field gives more winning opportunities to people that otherwise would struggle with a full field, compounded with it only being over half the season for each 'coast', plus inevitable injuries too. You argued that moving people on is hurting the sport, but try from the other angle. Keeping veterans in the 250/MX2 class is also preventing new talent from opportunities/good bikes/teams/sponsors. Plus, the current points rule is easily abused/circumvented to allow veteran proven riders a run at a title, as we have already seen. I think the GPs have it just about right. once you're 24yo its 450/MXGP or if you win the 250/MX2 championship 2 years in a row then you're promoted as well. Doing it this way maintains that the 450/MXGP class as the pinnacle, the premier class. If you haven't made your mark in the c5 years in the 250s, it probably ain't gonna happen. MX2/250 is just a feeder class at the end of the day. This is dog eat dog, this is cut throat racing, either succeed or you are history. People all over the world have to re-evaluate their life choices everyday. So, guess what? If you're no good at your job, chances are you won't be doing it for very much longer. Harsh, but fair.

I think the issue is he's been in the 250's for so long and his career has been overshadowed by injury. Are we forgetting he raced almost all of 2013 and 2021, raced a complete season in 2016. Finished 3rd in points in 2016 and 4th in 2021. Prior to this year he had 4 total wins in his career in the 250's. I see your point about not being able to translate winning in the 450's but that shouldn't be the reason we keep riders in the lites. Need a and or rule. 135 points in 4 years, Y amount of career starts, Z amount of lifetime points. Something.

I'm not quite sure I agree with your point of big jumps= big crashes. I mean we rarely see bad crashes on a straight jump. Most of them are on turns, collisions, and most of all whoops.
@andrewkenningley45552 жыл бұрын
Most injuryies are because of how long and steep the woops are, and how easy they brake down, When they brake down they get rutty and its very hard to keep the bike going straight, and this year they have made them long between each whoop so you have to go very fast to stay on top witch makes for a bigger crash when it goes wrong. And 250s are crashing as much as 450s so its not about power its all about track design.

450 Pros are always complaining about the track breaking down... Seems to be 450 4strokes tear up the track worse than say a 350 4stroke would? Or the depth of the knobby tires knobs... shorten the knobs and less wear & tear on the track??? Otherwise more classes would make that problem worse. Also there isn't enough money to have enough factory bikes for entire class to be riding on similar equipment. So even if the best guys get the best bikes cause they earned them... they're at such an unfair advantage over more than half the class. Of course they dominate! With better equipment! I think we need to level the equipment first off... whatever class... riders need a chance on similar equipment. I think it would be cool to do 5 classes. Practice & Qualify for night show on Fri. Super Mini Pro Mod for halftime, 250 Pro Stk(aka futures) & Mod, & 350 Pro Stk & Mod. 3hrs of TV coverage for night show that starts an hr earlier... no factory works bikes unless the factories can provide top 50 riders per Mod Class equal equipment. It would be more fun watching the best super mini riders in the US rip a sx track than the peewees... PeeWees should be the first race when track is groomed perfect if they still want it... tbh, it's always been boring.

Isn't it 5 winners with Marv winning. Also I think the AMA's problem is in trying to make the 250 class a development class. It is not seen as this in Europe or other parts of the world and so why doesn't the AMA introduce a youth class for 16-19 year olds with east and west and then the 250 class doesn't have to be separated in to east and west. In Australia we have the MX3 class for 14-18 year olds for example.

250 class should be the entry level class. You get 2 years, that’s it. 450 class split into a factory and stock class. Let the riders bang bars and stop enforcing bs rules.

Awesome show. “Age out.” 22 years old. Period. Make the rule and adapt. Simple. MX/SX is not socialism. Not everyone gets a trophy. He’s faster than me, boo hoo! There are always going to be “haves and have nots” not only in MX/SX but in life. Be better and adapt.

I think the promoters are greedy and need to make it more profitable for all riders!!

Here's a good set of rules: · In supercross, you can race anywhere as long as you're not top10 in points in any of the 2 coasts · Also in supercross, you can't race the smaller class if you're top15 in the main one · You can stay on the smaller class for as long as you feel necessary unless you've won 2 championships of the same kind (Supercross OR Motocross): then you get a 1-year overtime so you can plan your move upwards and you cannot return for the next 5 years · If a former 2-time small class champion goes back to the class, any title won will force him to move upwards in the next year · If you earn a top10 in points in the main class, you cannot drop down before 5 years have passed · Points earned in supercross in the smaller class count HALF towards the total annual points

Wanna make it safer make the track like the walk through the park MXgp tracks. Safe and fun for the Euro pretenders.

You are all over it weige. Usually riders in there prime are younger, a credit to the older riders that can keep up with them but racing is racing. MX 1 ,MX2 ,SX 1 , SX 2. MXGP MX2 MXW. MXON 250 450 OPEN (open should be 500cc+) Sad to see how it works but winners are winners because they are fit and highly skilled.

The 350 might be a good solution…or just go back to 250 two stroke. That would be even better.
@eric6rock2 жыл бұрын
Or pure 250 class, 250 2 strokes and 250 4 strokes privateers can be competitive but of course if that happens Honda will pull out.

I get it, but you identified the problem. What other "professional" sport can you basically walk into and expect to perform at the highest level and not get injured. Basically, find a way to eliminate the wanna be riff raff. If that means reduced rider mains than fine, but better talent. Less lappers to deal with. Aside from the wing dings fighting we dont see them on the main show anyway until they become a lapper. This mentality of "all inclusive" trophy hores is ridiculous. We have the exact same problem in BMX. Wanna be legit? Act like it.

Add a 350 class hmm

Best rule would be no rule. Stop splitting the coast and forcing people out. Keep the futures class but put a salary cap that encourages the talented to move up and keep the bikes closer to stock so privateers can afford a competitive bike.

How about making the riders wear some proper protective clothing. Hanging two pieces of plastic down your front and your back isn’t going to stop broken arms, wrists, collarbones, backs etc. The boots and helmets seem good everything else they wear offers zero protection

Everybody wants stock class,even D class riders don't ride a stock bike. Keep that stuff in the amateur's.

Fans and fellow competition don't like the sandbaggers, riders shouldn't be allowed to drop back down , age out at 25 or so , or so many seasons in 250f and your no longer eligible, this is racing, make it fair for the kids in the kids class and give fans what they want to see, sandbagging in right next to cheating, no one likes cheaters except cheaters themselves, I get it, a few would slip through the cracks like Craig, Freise is sandbagging in the 250 class, it's lame ....

Its a joke. How do you slow them down ??? Make slower tracks... duuhh. They made them for years in the 80's and 90's. Make the whoops closer to the exits of corners. Make the jumps closer to exits and entries. Steepen the faces of the jumps... same as always hearing that too loud a bikes is why you cant ride anywhere. Its pretty simple. Get the factories to agree on 93db levels and stick with it. It would also slow the bikes down alot.. all these problems are simple fixes... get rid of the regional 250 series. And no pointing out. The rides will still be there for the riders... and what amatuer coming up hasnt put in 1000's of hours on a practice facility supercross track ??? The days of a kid showing up with a bike in the pickup to race a supercross are gone. They are all pros and have to get points through amatuer supercross to race anyways... you would have great 250 supercross races to watch. Just think of who would still be in 250s. Hartranft, mcelrath, you got filthy phil and friese racing 250s and they have made the racing better for 250s. You have guys coming into the 250 class who could run top 10 in 450s right away. Everybody is different. So are just better 250 riders. Its not right to me to see those guys forced onto the 450s. Same with a 450 guy who cant ride 250s. Josh hill for example

The fact that you feel the need to justify Craig's existence in the 250 class is proof he shouldn't be down there. And everyone know it. He's clearly cherry picking in that class. That's why supercross live felt they needed to justify him being on a 250, with the feature they did on him. Remember, his wife said, what do you expect him to do if no one will hire him to ride a 450, buy his own bike? Well, that's exactly what Dean Wilson did a few years ago. He believed in himself. Paid the price. Fought hard for what he wanted. And earned a spot on a factory team. You all need to quit making excuses for Christian Craig .You sound silly. You'll see...when he gets on the 450, he'll do a little better than Vince Freeze had done, when he was on a 450. Just like he is now. A little bit better than Vince. And, on your last video... it's not the motorcycles. It's the track. As you put earlier, there have been only four winners this season. That's most likely because only four guy are being paid enough to take that level of risk.

Wilson had a 450 deal once with Jeff Ward Racing. The team folded so he went right back into the 250 class with another offer from Pro Circuit. The riders always take the guaranteed money in the 250 class if a 450 offer is not there. Yes Wilson did the privateer route a few years later, but he couldn’t race the 250s anymore.
@bmotomo4212 жыл бұрын
@@ygantmedia Yeah, I forgot about the Jeff Ward deal. But that was quite a while ago. Isn't Dean about the same age as Christian? I'm pretty sure Dean hasn't been on a 250 since his early twenties. I don't know. It just doesn't seem right for him to drop down. Especially with his experience on the 450, coupled with his age. And it feels like a lot of people can see it. Hence all the justifications. Maybe an age limit is the answer.
